I think for that price you cannot get a better MPV which is new, a recon/unreg (used) Estima would be around that price range though but it would probably be year make around 2009/2010.

What about Korean car. Hyundai starex .  Rm140k for year 2015 stock. Less than rm100k for a 3-4 years old car.

2010 Nissan Sentra SG - around that price range why not consider a car like this. Sentra is a C-segment while the City is only a B-segment, so you get a bigger car for around the same price. Maintenance wise the Sentra would be about the same as the City as 1600cc vs 1500cc not much difference in terms of part prices and engine oil requirements, and generally both cars are common on the roads thus getting parts and getting them cheap isn't an issue. The City has a very good CVT type gearbox which gives you power and fuel efficiency in a small package but buying a used car this can be an issue as some people never do maintenance and take care of the gearbox it can be half dead by the time it reaches your hands, ballpark prices for repairs are usually around the RM5000 range -- Sentra doesn't have this issue as it is a very simple slushbox type of gearbox less likely to breakfown due to wear/tear and poor maintenance.

Thanks Zenix for the insights. Much appreciated. Lemme take a look at this car. Anyway, do you have an idea about Hyundai Accent 2012 or Sonata 2009?

Hi guys,

Any comment on this car?
http://www.carlist.my/used-cars/2600746/20...-1-8-local.html

1. Price reasonable?
2. Any known problem?
3. Anyone deal with this company before how is the service so far?

Hi,

Would like recommendation inputs from sifus here. I have decided to buy Honda City but COULD NOT choose between E and V spec. Budget wise, I would opt for E spec.

However, I do NEED to install front & reverse camera and would need to replace the HU as a result (Assuming about 1.7k budget for all these) The things I am considering are whether these would void warranty.

If I opt for V spec, I just need to install the cameras from SC but of course it would be more exp. Also, V spec would stretch my budget a lot considering I still have to take the car for tinting. Would V spec be worth it?

Please recommend thanks icon_question.gif

you already have a thread all about this topic @3@
anyway... its really all about what you want.... frankly speaking, 1.7k budget (wow very specific) u can easily replace the head unit + install a rear view camera.... warranty, well too bad, you will probably void whatever you touch.... (if you want to be 100% sure, ask the service rep or contact honda for the most accurate info). IMO if you only lose the multimedia system's warranty i guess thats no issue~

otherwise 2 other options
1)just buy what you need, forgo the rear view camera (not like its one of those sports cars with horrible rear visibility making backing up a chore)
2) keep things simple (lower res, but small screen so its alright)
install a cheapo aftermarket camera (like 30 bucks)
install a simple screen (40 bucks)
user posted image

easy to install, only need one power tap, easily diy-able (did mine up, in total cost me less than 70 bucks + some effort)

Thanks for your reply, never occurred to me that I could install reverse camera without changing the HU (by just changing rearview mirror) rclxms.gif

haha not exactly the right place to discuss this, but yeah you can do this (admittedly its not the solution of the highest quality, but it will work).... u just need to figure out how to hide the wiring only.
if you want to diy, basically, just need to hook up 3(or4) cables to the car, 1) power for the camera (hookup to the switch by the gearbox OR easier, the reverse light)(**this can also power the screen if the camera has a power cable going front) 2)earthing for the camera 3)earthing for the screen so its actually a very easy job

My cars are simple basic cars, so i can just pull the panels off easily, not sure about a city (since it aint got pillar air bags, should be ok)

hmmm depends on what you consider good..... a kelisa would basically be a cheap to run, cheap to maintain, easy to drive reliable small car.

personally, if i had 15k, i would save alittle more for a viva, also the same recipe but newer. For this kind of money, don't expect performance and low maintenance/running cost to go hand in hand, one or the other will have to go

It is true their standard spec is better than a competing Japanese car but since you're on a tight budget and with the economic downturn I'd suggest getting something more reliable and cheap to maintain for the moment. Cars will always be on the market but money in your pocket is limited.

Nothing much fancy about this car.
Built using the body of a Subaru Impreza body, engine and gearbox (the automatic CVT one) but without turbo.
The 2000cc without the turbo isn't under powered, acts like any normal 2000cc engine.
Spare parts for this model can be considered in the decent price range because it has become quite popular in our market so many stockist and distributors do carry parts for it (mods too) but usually the general stuff for maintenance if you need major parts replacement you still have to go back to Subaru's 3s.

For the same price you should consider Maxda X3 or HOnda HRV for similar size suv

2010 Merc E250 - maybe you should look around the adverts for unreg or recon's since mercedes are popular models for them to bring in you should get a pretty good deal for one, for comparison this car is 50k cheaper than the locally assembled one, usually such recon cars are in better condition than used car plus you can demand for any repairs/cosmetic upgrades before purchasing, you can buy the car with new car interest rates this is a huge savings for this price range no matter how many years you intend to loan, plus they usually come with a limited one year warranty which is better than

it would cost you more than doing it at accessories shops but you can always get them to install that stuff and dump the cost into your loan. plus usually in such cases it won't void the warranty.

To be honest at that price range you're bound to be stuck with something really old and ugly but should be cheap and easy to maintain.....or something newer but would be a pocket burner. I'll introduce to you something which best balances everything out with your needs.

2000 Nissan Sentra 1.6 - it doesn't look too fancy but that's the point, of cars this age you seldom see one which is in such an original condition and well taken care of, it should be in decent condition. I know youngsters like you want cars that are already modified and garang looks but those probably had knuckle head owners like mat rempits whom have riden the car too hard and probably falling apart now and trying to sell it to noobs like you. So a boring one like this is a good starter pack for you. Older 1600cc from Nissan are known to be fuel efficient, cheap to maintain and reliable. Generally for a C-segment you're looking at under RM200 per each service interval but since it is an old car you can shop around to find workshops that can do it cheaper for you and don't bother with any fancy stuff just regular oil and with regular service will keep the car happy, don't buy good stuff now but expect it to last very long you need to service the car every 5000km so use decent priced stuff enough. One negative though is just that you know Nissan doesn't make beautiful cars.

2000 Perodua Kembara 1.3 - this is a manual and i chosen to introduce you a manual because usually manuals are bulllet proof and you don't need to worry about it failing when you buy a used car. Manuals can take a beating and still be rock solid, unlike automatics if not maintained properly it will need to be serviced/rebuilt. Secondly, nowadays flood is very common so a SUV with higher road clearance is better, plus higher seating gives you better road visibility. If you like higher seating go for SUV's as pickups although usually come with nice and powerful turbo diesel engines that can return well over 500km per fuel tank the tires for them are very expensive where SUV's use regular car tires. Perodua should be a cheapie to maintain.

One thing about cars this age though usually absorbers, rack-ends, lower arms, etc. are the usual stuff you'll need to change for a better drive but if you don't have the budget then leave it first just don't drive fast. To fix those things depends on the part prices it should be at least RM600-2000 to get everything done including a mini service and fluid change (brake fluid, steering, etc).

Well actually when we're talking about these prices the E250 isn't that much further away.

2010 Merc E250 @ RM160k - imported model, imported spec, unregistered so can get new car interest rates, new number plate, and warranty. I'd go for this as it saves money from buying from C&C (new) that would cost a bomb, and buying used you won't get the benefits listed above. Give it a thought.

TQ very much bro zenix, what cars can i get if i bump the budget up to RM15K? a sedan is preferred. I prefer driving a manual because i have more control over the car.
