For my ex car with VKool, using Smart Tag was a touch-and-go situation (no pun intended). I always had to drive very slowly, put the Smart Tag close to windscreen (I noticed the higher the Smart Tag on the windscreen, close to the rearview mirror, the easier it got detected). And I had to start placing the Smart Tag a few car lengths from the gantry or it would not detect.
Despite this, there were times the barrier would not lift and I had to wait for assistance, or reverse back and move forward again if there was no car behind me.
The easiest way to overcome this was to wind down my window and dangle the smart tag above the car roof - yeah, not glamourous.

FYI, I have friends in Singapore who have to cut a "hole" at the location where they mount their In-vehicle Unit (something like smart tag used to pay for road charge and parking).

From my experience, it could happen to any brand, even my 3M fixed 5 yrs ago...is all blur at the rear window  cry.gif

previously... I had cheap tinit on my wira at Brothers, last me more than 10yrs, till it was sold off...no fading or bubling at all...it only cost rm350 for the whole car!
*
Had VKool and 3M on previous cars - no issue and no distortion after 5 years, 9 years, respectively when I sold them.

QUOTE(VeeJay @ Aug 7 2017, 05:04 PM)
at a safer side...going for warranty is better...but then sometimes, depending on the car that one wants to tint and how long you want to use.

As for my wira...my thought was...its so cheap rm350...if anything goes wrong...i could tint every 2-3yrs or so...n they provided 5yrs warranty as well! Not sure whats the price now...havent visited them for tint for a long time
*
The problem with cheap tints could be due to low IR rejection. Also, removing of tint at rear windshield might damage the demister strips.

QUOTE(neotheone @ Aug 10 2017, 04:02 PM)
Hello all,
Took up LLumar diamonds sides and Gold front and back windows.
Heat rejection is pretty good. However is it just me or do you think the tint is a little bit too bright as compared with other similarly ranged brand?
Now just have to live with it. Haha.
*
Bro, mind sharing the cost? This is what I would be looking for - good heat rejection but JPJ friendly.

Dear all, anyone seen how Puspakom checks the VLT of our windows?
Do they use the VLT meter all the time, or only on those windows that they think will fail - which means can still pass for the front windscreen.

Asking because, if I choose 3M crystalline 70 for the front windscreen, its VLT is 68% (source: 3M website). When applied, the VLT falls further.

The front two windows are easier and cheaper to replace, so I won't mind using Crystalline 40 (VLT 39% vs min 50% JPJ rule).

QUOTE(fezanim @ Jun 5 2018, 12:09 PM)
for civic X I got 2 quotation that need you guys opinion which one should I choose in term of heat / jpj compliance and smart tag since the price not much differ :-

a) Front 3M Crystalline, side 3M Scotchshield security and rear 3M Ebony, RM1,600.
or
b) Full car package
Huper Optik Advanced Nano Ceramic series 70/504mil/40
1,800
*
Bro, what is the exact spec? Crystalline has 40/50/60/70/90 VLT.
And why not use Crystalline 40 for rear windscreen as its TSER is 59% compared to 47% for Ebony, and IR rejection 97% vs none for Ebony (source: 3M website).

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Thank you for sharing.
I'm surprised you passed, since your front sides and windscreen have clearly failed. Maybe they use the excess VLT at the rear to compensate for front tongue.gif

I am contemplating using Crystalline 70 for front w/screen (which will still fail inspection as its VLT is 68% even before installation). For the front side windows, it will be a problem as I want a safety film and there are only two options: Scotchshield 40 (too dark) and Scotchshield 70 (too bright).

QUOTE(gus_fring @ Jun 7 2018, 11:58 AM)
Hello everyone! Noob here.

As I understand, almost all automotive front windscreens are treated for UV protection nowadays. So does it still make sense to apply a tint on the front windscreen?

I'm thinking about getting 3M Crystalline 90 for the front windows and Crystalline 70 for the rear windows and windscreen. Would this be within the permissible legal limits? Any suggestions are welcome.
*
For rear windows and ws, you can consider crystalline 40 as jpj rule says its 30%vlt.

Thanks for this. I'm not really a fan of darker tints so I'm trying to do the basic level to reduce the heat in the cabin while parked in the sun.
*
If you read the specs at 3M website, you'll see that darker tints have higher solar rejection rate.

3M

FULL CRYSTAL CAR CIVIC  70 -50 -50 -40  RM2.1K

FULL CRYSTAL CAR  CR 70 - SCR 40- SCR40- CR 40 -  RM2.4K

which should i get i want 2nd option but non jpj compliant?  first option is compliant but no safety.

why 3M doesn’t offer SCR 50??!??
*
Option 1 can be 70 50 40 40. The rear windows and rear w/screen needs 30%, iirc.
Front ws is 70%, front windows 50%. Technically, you will fail VLT even with option 1 as all untinted windows do not have 100%vlt to begin with.
And I'm sure the tint shop will tell you "bro, two tone tints not nice lah".

I'd go for option 2 since I value safety. The recent acid throwing case enforces this belief.

huh are you for real? even 70% and 50% not jpj compliant?
recent acid throwing? on the window?
*
Google is your friend, my friend.
Acid case:
The Star

The VLT requirement from JPJ is 70% front ws, 50% front windows, and 30% for the rear windows and rear ws.
Crystalline 40/50/70 have 39%/50%/68% VLT - and this is before sticking on your glass. As mentioned in the earlier post, your original window glass does not have 100% VLT. Once you stick the tint film on the windows, will not the VLT drop further?

Dear all,
So far, I've only heard of people applying security film on windows, never on the front windscreen. I think it is the fear of not being able to rescue people in the event of an accident.

As I have heard cases of windscreen kena poked by metal pieces, etc, would it not be safer to apply security film on front windscreen?

No la. Security film can't bend properly so can't install front and back. 5 mil above can't. If not too curved 4 mil can install but usually not recommended one. If metal at high velocity, no Tint can protect u
*
Thank you for the explanation. Now I understand about the security film not able to bend properly. Don't agree with the second part. Having a security tint there could mean the metal missing your heart by a whisker, which could mean living vs dying.

QUOTE(I'm V-Kool @ Jul 12 2018, 11:20 PM)
There are 3 main reason why installer does not apply safety film on windscreen

1. The front windscreen is laminated glass whereas the rest of window are tempered
https://glassdoctor.com/content/laminated-vs-tempered-glass

2. The curve design of windscreen make it hard for safety film to bend over during the heating process

3. Laminated glass come with certain thickness + the film thickness will cause blurry effect
*
Thank you for the explanation. Come to think of it, many years back a solar film installer refused to tint my front windscreen using a single piece of film. "Can't be done unless we cut a line to make it two pieces", he said.

QUOTE(malaysiaboleh2020 @ Jul 14 2018, 09:45 AM)
Decided to go with 3M full crystalline  + security film for 4windows.

Mind sharing what car, what specs you choose and the price? Also, do update if it interferes with Smart Tag.

civic, CR 70 - CR50- CR50- CR40 with security film on side windows . 2300

It seems your security film with 50% VLT is not Crystalline, just normal Scotchshield, as Scotchshield Crystalline Security comes in 40 and 70% VLT.

Wonder why most of ppl go for Crystalline 70 instead of Crystalline 60, since 60 darker & +2% on TSER but same price, any1 can help explain pls?
Thanks!
*
You gain only 2% TSER but you gain many more % chance of getting stopped at road blocks because the first thing they try to see is your face through the windscreen.

QUOTE(wangpr @ Jul 24 2018, 02:37 PM)
Anyone here using this tint : 3M™ Scotchshield™ Crystalline Security AutoFilm 40

Will this get summon from JPJ ?
*
This is the dilemma. As it is, Crystalline security film only comes in 70 and 40% VLT. The former will be too bright for the front windows, the latter too dark for JPJ's regulation of 50% VLT for front windows. From what I read here, if the front windscreen is not too dark, the chances of being pulled over are very low.

Is it possible to have bubble-free tinting? In all my cars, tiny bubbles will appear in a matter of time and they will become more and more and eventually stop growing in numbers (or maybe I would have lost count).
And so far they only happen to side windows and rear windscreen, never on front windscreen.

I usually ignore them, as re-tinting will most likely create the same results, if not worse.

3M Crystalline70 with Scotchshield Crystalline40:RM3,100

What do u guys think of the price? Which one would you guys go for?
*
I'd go for third option (assuming rear w/s is using Crystalline 40), but will hunt for lower price.

Hello sifu sifu sekalian,
Am going to replace my windscreen soon, so surveying for new tint.
Interested in Hamel, because of the price 1399 - 899 and photochromic thinggy.

How is Hamel in terms of quality and etc etc? Anything i should be worried about ?
am open for other brands if its better/ better bang for buck.
*
Whenever I read about photochromic tint, I will think how fast the tint will react, when you enter a tunnel in a broad daylight. As it is, not all tunnels are lit according to the norm (bright lighting as you enter the tunnel, to allow your eyes to adjust to what is coming).
