Hi everyone, I'm looking for tint with budget around 1000-1500
1. Good heat rejection
2. JPJ compliant
3. No problem with GPS/smart-tag/rfid/phone signal
4. Selangor/KL area.
Looking at 3M, Llumar, Huper Optik and possibly Hamel? I read that VKool will block signal right?
You have to break the signals to 2 groups
- smart-tag on infra-red band
- GPS, rfid, phone signal on radio frequency band
All tint affect infra-red to to a certain extent. About half of the solar energy we feel as heat is infra-red, the other half are visible light + small fraction of UV.
To block the heat without making the tint too dark is to block as much IR as possible. The better/more expensive tint block IR even more, those with 97%+ IRR, you need to slow down to almost stop to pass with smart-tag, some toll booth will never able to pass. If you have smart-tag concern, get mid range tint with 85% IR Rejection. However new technologies like the rfid are moving away from infra-red, even the higher end TV started to have bluetooth based remote control.
All modern ceramic tints have zero affect to radio frequency. Just stay away from metallic film, you will be fine.
Although metallic tint has its advantage of reflecting the heat, it is no longer practical in 21st century. (you can feel the glass getting warm with ceramic film, glass is cooler with metallic film)
With metallic tint, when there are 11-13 GPS satellite found in clear sky, you left with 3-4 when got in the car. Yes, GPS still sorta work but location accuracy would be 10m radius instead of 1-2m radius. With that navigation software sometime confused and think you are at the next street in downtown.
Phone still works with metallic tint, but signal strength drops (even if the bar didn't drop significantly, the RSSI reading drops). This is typically non-issue because 4G is fast enough. You left with 10-15mbps inside the car instead of 80mbps+ when close to the cell tower, that's still pretty fast. Again, just get a ceramic film, then problem free.
Last note is most tint quote their IR rejection % in only 900nm to 1000nm range. Check out Xpel XR and XR Plus, the only tint around here that show the spec of both 900nm to 1000nm and also wider range 780nm to 1700nm.
