Don't know what is "better quality" smile.gif

If you do engineering 3D, you need decent CPU and at least moderate discrete GPU.
But taper your expectation due to your budget.

Sorry. Should have elaborate more on "better quality". Currently I am using 5 years old Dell Inspiron 14. I dont like the not solid feel of the laptop, prefer brand comes with better built which can last me for few years usage without much problem. How is I raise up the budget to RM3k?

Thanks.

. Preferred Brand-
Any, build quality and service must be top notch
Apple might work as well.

2. Budget-
RM <4k

3. Usage-
Photoediting, browsing, college work, light gaming (dota 2)

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
Light weight (if possible) , long battery life roughly 4-5 hours, mainly for college work and photoediting, FHD , 15.6" screen for photo editing.

HP ENVY TS 15-j053TX
does this have long battery life?

vs

Dell Inspiron 15-7000 series- 7537

Lenovo
ThinkPad Edge E431, i7-3632QM + Nvidia GT635M@RM3179[2.15kg], 4GB, 1TB, W7P/W8P, anti-glare

1. Brand: any brand
2. Budget: 2k and below if possible (otherwise max at 2.3k)
3. Use: gta 4, diablo 3, microsoft office, surfing..
4. Extra criteria: Best bang-of-buck
5: Screen Size: any size

anyway, to narrow the scope, i currently had my eye on the Dell Inspiron 14R (i5-4500U, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd, GT 740M) which cost RM1849.00

would the above mentioned model be able to handle gta 4 and diablo 3?..otherwise, what other bang-for-buck lappie would serve my above-mentioned use without crossing the 2k price mark?

All consumer class 15" laptop with HD+ (1600x900) or above screen has discrete GPU, except this, which is above your budget:

Dell
XPS 15, i5-4200H + Intel HD 4400 + 32GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)+ (1920x1080; Touch)@RM4999 [2.0kg], 8GB, W8.1SL, backlit keyboard, 61Whr

You seems to be a photographer. Photoshop (certain features) and other graphic software actually can take advantage of discrete GPU. You may appreciate IPS screen or TN screen with good colour gamut.
Can consider these:

Acer
V7-582PG-74508G52k, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD + (1920x1080 IPS; touch)@RM3399[2.2kg], 8GB, W8
Asus
N550JV-CN077H, i7-4700HQ + Nvidia GT750M + (1920x1080; IPS matte)@RM3699[2.7kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8, backlit keyboard
Dell
Inspiron 15 7000, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) + (1920x1080; Touch)@RM3599[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8SL, backlit keyboard, 58Whr

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

For that spec, model with competitive price is that Inspiron 14R and this:
HP
Pavilion 14-N059TX, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM1999[2.03kg], 4GB, 750GB, W8
There seems to some promo going on, you could get it at slightly above RM1.8k hmm.gif

For your usage, the GTA4 is a concern. That game is notorious for being a CPU hog (poor port to PC platform).

Are those 2nd hand units?
G400s never has a factory spec with 128GB SSD smile.gif
In term of general responsiveness, the G400s spec win.
In term of GPU (3D gaming) performance, the 5460 is better (GT630M vs HD4000).

This are new laptop, but the SSD will be bought separately and assembled

if the discrete GPU kick in, no.
if run on Intel IGPU, decent, close to 5-6 hours, normal surfing.
