So I agreed to their terms and I should get the new machine in 14-21 days. Specifications wise, seems to be slightly (just slightly) better than what I have now along with the new ugly R5 chassis. GPU is the 770M, not sure how much better the 780M is. Comparisons show that the 680 is still holding its own against the newer cards.
*
hopefully everything is fine this time. yeah 680m is still fine this year.

Let's hope so. I'll use the machine for a year or so before upgrading to the 18.
*
one year is fine smile.gif

No, Dell Malaysia doesn't sell the 18 and refuses to honour the International warranty because they don't sell the machine. So it's a dead end there. They will also not extend the warranty for you in any way and have literally just washed their hands when it comes to anything relating the 18.
*
wow. if that's the case, illegear or s'pore :/

oh my.. dell thailand and indonesia don't offer alienware?!

I'm getting tired of Dell not allowing us to configure the stuff we want in our machines. Illegear I know, but I'm still confused about the warranty. Can they extend? Alienware 18 isn't cheap, and if configured it could end up pretty expensive. 1 year international warranty is nice, but more is necessary smile.gif And where would we go for the support?
*
tell me about it :/ i have been waiting for months for that too.

whatever it is just make everything clear first before purchase. there will be risks if you wanna go for aw18. the closest that i can find for full support is still s'pore.

by the way, aw18 is a heavy machine. the sli setup is not joke in terms of heat. (best served in air-conditioned room)

edit: Aura has an aw17 with 780m.

Dell doesn't seem to be offering the 780m in their configurations. Is there something I'm missing when I visit the site?
*
when new aw17 was released, there was a period of limited time that dell malaysia had the option of putting 780m in aw17; then the news of serious shortage of the card followed; eventually that option was no more.

edit: wait! check this! http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/con...s=dhs&cs=mydhs1

Doesn't matter I guess, I'm getting the GTX770 and an upgrade isn't warranted at the price Dell will quote for the upgrade. Better to upgrade to a GTX880 once that's out.

By that time though, I'll be in the market for a new machine. Alienware 18 would be the best choice, but warranty issues because they don't sell it in the country. I spoke to Dell and they say that they don't and won't help with warranty if anything goes wrong. I was told that Dell US will bypass those sales people and get someone there to fix the machine anyway but no confirmation. I'll try to contact them and see soon. Local Dell also said they don't sell it in Singapore.

Singapore does, but again they don't let you configure it as you want. Dell is always trying to shove some configuration down your throat, not something I like.

So we'll see, might be turning to other brands that allow you to configure every piece of hardware you want.
*
that sucks.

on the other hand, i think s'pore is fine because i have friends there. worst comes to worst i just fly there during weekends. if it's even possible, it's much better that they send me parts so that i can do it myself.

yeah these days customizations are really limited for aw.

I just don't understand why they force configurations down our throats. I mean, it's not that the configuration is dependent on the other options. You don't need the highest processor to run the GTX780. You can have a pretty solid system even on the 4700. Anyway, no use going on and on about it. Dell does allow you to custom the machine accordingly I believe, but it's a lot more expensive and you have to do it directly with the sales person who are usually clueless about anything except their support manuals. Sager might be worth going back to, or maybe try Illegear.

They've been unhelpful no matter what I ask them recently, they don't give me options, they just want me to say yes and move on.
*
maybe it's the shortage of parts.

right; after-market upgrades are easy, and some parts are much cheaper now (for r4). although most of us are happy with self customizations, it's still the best if we can get a customized laptop that consists of parts directly from the manufacturer and are covered by proper warranty.

the reactions from sales reps might be due to the lack of options that they can offer (again, due to parts shortage?).

sager and illegear both use clevo. from what i've read, they might not be as quiet as aw.

horns HOLY CRAP!!! New specs!!! This one has a review online on YouTube. But then, glossy screen only.... I want matte 120hz screen!!!

Well, speaking about GTX780M, last time I ordered mine, I have to wait for 1 month or so for them to replenish their stock.

Damn, that new spec is really sucking money... I'd rather spend a bit more for AW 18. Only downside is the warranty but then, how the hell would anyone carry an 18" running around? People already calling me insane when I carry my 17".
*
well you can put a matte screen protector on the glossy screen if you want haha!

compared to the MYR8699 option, i think the price is ok. the cpu, gpu, and screen are what i want. i already have ssd's and 32gb ram's ready.

aw18 is really huge and heavy. a 17" looks small beside it. (by the way aw18's screen is 60hz, not 120hz)

I'm guessing the sales people could open their mouths to say that the parts are not available. Instead of their usual "NO" without any further explanation.
*
my guess is that they were trying to avoid further questions like, 'why don't have? i saw it at dell US :/'.

QUOTE(Aura @ Dec 17 2013, 09:44 AM)
LOL!!! Well, I didn't say the price is not ok for AW 17". Just feels that AW 18 is much better due to SLI. Yeah, I know that the AW 18 has a 60hz screen but it has SLI. SLI > 120hz anytime for me. thumbup.gif
*
LOL! i like 120hz screen more biggrin.gif one of my friends just got his 18 recently. it has a 4930xm cpu, 780m sli, full ssd setup, with 32gb of ram. after some after-market customizations, it's now over MYR 20k.

my glasses are getting dust 2. I haven't used them from a long time. Maybe i'll use them again when I install windows 8.1 smile.gif
*
yeah. i hope to see better applications of the technology but it's really not that useful for now.

by the way, after a few months with .ac router, intel 7260 is stable. (fluctuating between 433 to 866.7 mbps; no disconnection)

how much did you get the 7260 for? Thinking of getting the Asus router as well.
*
the last time i bought it the price tag was high (just released; ebay), around MYR 200.00. now it should be cheaper.

intel 7260 has a number of variants (wireless-n only; m2 form factor; modified version for desktop; etc.). look for intel 7260 wireless-ac half mini pcie card.

i tried searched for a while, found quite a few. But the taobao is full with traditional Chinese which making me  rclxub.gif  when browsing the web laugh.gif
*
uh? maybe the landing page is South East Asia page. it's a site from China, default to simplified Chinese.

use these keywords: 外星人 笔记本 14 磨砂 反光 屏幕 膜

Edit: raymondtong94's idea works too. Find one that is larger than 14" and cut accordingly.
