Updated to latest beta driver on windows 7 for killer wireless 1103. I have to say much much improvement and a stable connection. I was having weird disconnection issues using the previous driver.

Got the beta driver from thr website.
*
I have it for sometime. however i didntt test it yet. I have no issue with 1103. It is stable with my ap.

confirmed: if you have activated your oem copy of w8.1 single language via ms phone support, the activation tokens backup via advanced tokens manager (atm) will work.

atm warned users that it has only 'partial' backup, i.e. successful restores can only work for those activations via phone, not the online activations.

hehe now i can do unlimited fresh installs that i want, again biggrin.gif

wow damn. i didn't know it's that bad; a whole year with that is painfully frustrating if i were you :/ since component replacements couldn't help, getting a new unit might be better for you.

yeah the ram's are not compatible. (well, they will work; but they're not good for other components in the long run)

Only reason I was able to hang on so long was because I was away long stretches of the time so I wasn't really using the machine that much. But whenever I wanted to, horrible issues that Dell couldn't fix.
*
yeah figured that out in your older posts. i think if you managed to do call dell for replacement units a few months earlier you might get one with 680m already. (i said this because nvidia 680m in my r4's are fine).

Few months earlier they were replacing my GPUs week after week. 3 arrived DOA, lol.

And I was away for weeks in between the replacements so it took some time to get done. Never went through a replacement before, so let's see what happens. They might have another R4 around hopefully!
*
it's really too bad. good luck with the new machine smile.gif just sell off the ram's and get new sticks.

Looks like I'll have to do that if I get a new model. If not, then I can keep em.

The latest one? r5?
*
yeah r5. however there are a number of things that i don't like, too. the battery for instance. i think it's much better if they allow us to detach it when necessary.

You can't detach the battery?

r5's battery is behind the back plate. it's not like r4, which is detachable easily.

How hard is it to remove the back plate?
*
it's not hard hahal! but still it's best to just wanna push and take it out biggrin.gif

i think r4's internal design is much better than r5.

Only thing that pissed me off about the R4 was the ram slots under the keyboard. But everything else was fine. My R4 came with some of the screws with the groves worn. So I had trouble getting my ram in. Had Dell site fellas come and replace the screws after a while.
*
ram slots under keyboard is not that bad. in terms of disassembly, imo it's the dvdrom/bluray drive. for asus g55, it's just 1 screw and slight push to take it out and replace with hdd caddy. for r4, it's a relatively tedious task.

i have put an msata ssd into my r4 also. you just need to take the palm rest area out.

just to share my experience on dismantling M18x (i think its the same as M17x).
basically its just remove the back cover, the screws holding the keyboard cover and pry out the keyboard cover. then, unplug the shortcut keys cable and you are good to remove the keyboard. its practically not a hard job to access the RAM slots under the keyboard.
*
nice tip smile.gif

basically tearing r4 down is quite simple. (way simple than my asus g55)

QUOTE(refnulf @ Dec 11 2013, 02:54 AM)
Yeah, I blame whoever screwed em down the first time. Probably at the factory. To be honest, most of the screws were in bad condition when I received my R4. I had to get a technician to come and replace more than 11 screws and they still managed to make a mess out of that. So I replaced a few screws myself.
*
many tend to forget that we do not need to tighten the screws in laptops with much strength :/

Yeah, my original  warranty was 3 years complete cover. They said will continue my current warranty. Also that I can upgrade it as per normal by contacting the sales team.

Just got the SSD? I'll have to move my M4 to the new machine after I get it.  Don't think I need a new one yet. Then gotta spend a butt load on ram again.
*
no they're my old ones. unless you need more capacities, it's better for you to spend for other stuff instead of getting new ssd's.

*
right biggrin.gif

the more i test different ssd's the more i feel that for common usage (mostly sata/msata consumer variants), it's fine to get ssd's of consumer grade. for now, the sweet spot is still 240gb or more. (i was hoping for a shift from that to 480gb or more this year but that didn't happen; instead new form factors came out with much better speeds)

My SSD is managed to 435GB of available space, but I have more than 212GB free. I hardly put anything on the SSD except for games, apps, etc.

Everything else is on the 1TB second drive. Movies, music, stuff I don't mind losing. Slow access compared to the SSD, but it was cheap.

Doubt I need a SSD upgrade just yet, it's still very fast, very sweet even though it's not one of the new generation SSDs. I'll just wait and save up for a 2TB SSD whenever it comes out next year or the year after that.
*
same here; for data storage i still use hdd.

yeah 2tb is possible now for consumer ssd's. samsung might be the first to push this out.
