i like the fact that there is a heart sticker at the webcam very safe.

Here is my update , a few weeks back my graphics card was no longer detected in bios . however alienware hardware diagnostics says that all my hardware is working fine. Dell came last week and changed my graphics card and its now working fine. Using 660m only so yes they replaced it with 660m and not 760m tongue.gif

Thinking of extending the warranty now , so scared. Changed mobo few times d , first was speaker no sound , second and third due to adapter plugged in not charging/ If take adapter out and plugged back in wont detect must start from full shutdown only adapter will detect.

Yes, I always cover the webcam area with a sticker just in case. No telling who might be watching.

I'd suggest extended warranty if you find yourself unlucky with the machine, I have had a ton of problems too. Mostly GPU, but also with the LCD and the touchpad. These computers will last years, so good if you can have extended warranty.

Think I'm going to just stick with Win 8.1

Guess I'll have to use it eventually, so might as well get use to it now. Sigh.

Played Knack using remote play, there was some lag and it disconnected after a while. I think it's because of my wireless router though. I have heard that remote play isn't quite perfect as of yet. Maybe after a few updates!

i guess it might be due to bad internet connectivity too (20mbps, or even 40mbps, is not really good enough). if only our isp's are behaving like one..

yeah it's really a good idea to extend it if your laptop has had issues before. you have no clue what can happen in the future. even though my r4 is fine so far (a second-hand some more;i was lucky that the previous owner took care of it nicely; no issue since i had it), i don't wanna have troubles later on (due to hand itchiness).

don't be sad haha.. 8/8.1 is not that bad. with a few tweaks it can be efficient as well.

Having a problem with the new machine, haven't really been using it but when I log into the system there's a problem earlier. I try to launch any program and a black screen appears with the battery icon blinking at the top left hand corner.

Then a few seconds after that it logs out and goes to the login page (with the time and date/battery/wifi icon)

Any idea what that is? I can't launch a single thing, can't get to desktop either. Just the window with all the program panes. Can't get to control panel either. It just goes blank and logs me out.

Yeah, just decided to test the sound on the new laptop and that happens.

Called Dell, ran diagnostics, hardware seems to be okay.

Reinstalling/restoring Windows 8 now. Bah.

that's scary.

when i last opened up my 17, i did a check on the battery. it's secured nicely to the laptop (2 screws), and the battery cable is firmly attached. unless there is something wrong with the mobo or the battery, physically it's very hard to have loosened/detached issue.

After the restore, it seems to be working fine. I'm not going to worry about Windows 8 anymore. I'm going to go back to Windows 7 Ultimate till all the bugs and kinks have been ironed out. Seems it happens a lot.

Actually better get a warranty extension bundled together with a newly bought laptop. From there got discount. After that, there's none, doesn't matter whether u extend it now or not.

i think last time i read in here someone said if using windows 8 64 bit basic version the maximum ram supported is 16gb ram is this true ? or was it for windows 7 i could be wrong. iinm windows 8 max ram is 128gb for standard version.

another noob question , my current RAM that is under the keyboard is 8+4 , so let say if i want to add another 8 is it best to remove the 4gb ram and replace it with 8gb or just add another 8gb at the 2 free bottom slots. coz i am very lazy to open everything to access the 2 slots under the keyboard.

for 64bit, w7 hp is 16gb. w7 pro is 192gb. w8 is 128gb. w8 pro is 512gb.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/wi...v=vs.85%29.aspx

you can try insert the new ram in the empty slot to see it down-clock the ram speed. iirc usually the ram slots for laptops are designed in pairs, meaning it's better to put 2 compatible rams in each section.

don't be lazy. it's just a few screws away to get to ram slots under the keyboard.
