Dear Gurus of Hardwares,

I have been tasked to build a upgradable desktop tower (only tower without displays and accessories), for sole purpose of computing for my R&D job.
I know I can go bonkers with double graphic cards and extreme editions of everything, but the budget is limited for phase one.

So Phase 1:
- compatible latest motherboard
- i7 with humble price (no need max Ghz/cores)
- 16GB ram with good speed
- 128 GB SSD with good speed
- And the GPU headache
-----* must be nvidia GPU (i need CUDA)
-----* the best that can fit the price, must be expandable to dual configuration in future.
-----* not for gaming, but i need the best card possible anyway for GPU coding
-----* need to support 2560x1600 display
- casing/power etc - go for minimum possible, as I will not overclock.

I tried looking at lowyat price list etc, and my head is spinning.
Please help all the enlighten ones. What mb+cpu+gpu will you go for at USD 888 / MYR 3000.
You can give me pointers and I will go research more based on your advise.

Thanks.

RM3k for workstation parts eh? this gonna be tough

Intel Xeon E3 1230 V3 RM799
Asrock Z87M Pro 4 RM349
Value RAM (prolly will be 1333MHz or 1600MHz variants) 2x8GB RM478
Plextor M5S 128GB RM289
Leadtek Quadro K600 RM849
FSP Raider 650W RM269
CM Elite 361 RM109
Total: RM3142

NOTE: i would suggest getting the entire PC budget on the spot then only purchase instead of going phase by phase. workstation parts are not cheap

EDIT: you can reduce the Power Supply Unit to a FSP Raider 550W RM239 as i dont think dual K600 will eat much power

thats what i thought too, since GTX760 have more CUDA cores at the same price

however, does it perform better in rendering? hmm.gif

The GTX760 has twice the ROPs (32 vs 16)..

QUOTE
16 more render output units (ROPs). The ROPs are responsible for some of the final steps of the rendering process, writing the final pixel data to memory and carrying out other tasks such as anti-aliasing to improve the look of graphics.

And for the overall aspects,GTX760 beats K600 entirely.

It'll be hard. The 27" monitor itself will costs you half of your budget already.

So i have with me a cm690II casing, evga 780 superclock and a cm gx620w 80+ bronze.

Now i need the remaining parts. unfortunately, impulsive purchase has led to budget constrains. how to build the rest of the computer without bottlenecking the gpu or blowing up the psu? trying to keep budget to about around the 1.5k budget +/- couple hundred. can exceed, but rather not! will be used for gaming!

I would like to advise you to ditch the PSU, if possible. The 1st gen GX series is not good. Can consider my suggestion as below. smile.gif

Intel Core i5 4440 – RM579
Asrock B85M Pro4 – RM279
Corsair Value Ram 8GB DDR3 1600MHz – RM239
WD Caviar Blue 1TB HDD - RM189
Evga GTX 780 Superclock
CM 690II casing

Seasonic S12 II 620W PSU - RM299
Lite-On 24x DVDRW – RM59

Total - RM1644 (prices are from Viewnet)

So you are playing only The Sims 3/4?Well then, you can get this. icon_idea.gif
CPU:Intel Core i5 4440 3.1GHz RM579
Mobo:Asrock B85M-Pro4 RM279
GPU:Gainward GTX660 Golden Sample 2GB GDDR5 RM595
Ram:Corsair 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RM239
HDD:WD Caviar Blue 1TB RM189
PSU:Seasonic S12II 80+ Bronze 620W RM299
Casing:CM K380 RM149
ODD:Liteon 24x DVDRW RM59
Monitor:Viewsonic VX2370SMH 23' RM549
Total:RM3076
GPU is from Lingloong at GS,the rest from Viewnet.
The Monitor i recommended doesn't have touch screen, may i know why do you want touch screen? tongue.gif
Btw,if you want to upgrade your GPU in the future, let's say GTX770/R9 280X and above, you may need to change to a better PSU. smile.gif
*
What do I have to change the rest of the spec apart from the PSU (what wattage should I get) if I were to get this;

CPU : Intel Core i7- 4770K 3.5Ghz
GPU : GTX780 3GB - which non reference brand better?
RAM : Corsair 8GB (4GB DDR3 1600Mhz x 2) - slots for optional upgrades?

Not planning to buy this now but just to get the rough idea of the hardware combination so I can plan my budget..
Waiting for Surface Pro 2 - sweat.gif
