Job Title : Sr. Software Development Engineer
Job Description : Build software interface for machinery
Years spent in company : 2 years 5 months (only 6 months in current post)
Company : Local
Industry : Automation
Tenure : Permanent
Employment Level : Sr.
Experience before joining : 0 years (joined as fresh graduate)
Highest paper qualification/ education background : Degree
salary : RM 2400 > RM 2500 (after probation) > RM 2750 > RM 3162.5 (after promotion) > RM 3213 (current)

Why i like the job?
i. doing the thing i'm interested in
ii. great sense of achievement
iii. chance of traveling oversea for setup purpose

Why i dislike the job?
i. always rushing for project
ii.  imbalance life style

When compared with the newly joined engineer, their starting pay after probation is RM 2800, which make me feel i'm kind of underpay. Is the pay for senior considered normal in the current market?

Since promoted as senior, my manager started to delegate resource management related task (assign projects to junior, etc) to me. I do realize that this is the chances for me to learn about management, but most of the time i find myself not able to focus on projects assigned to me due to the distraction.

Frankly, i'm enjoying working here since there are things (technical, management)  that i think i can learn here. If the workload can be reduced, that will be the best. Still, if the pay does not match with the workload, i'll still consider leaving the company for a better wages.

Any advices from the anyone that has been working for many many years?

ermm..m civil engineer.

if u feel d pay does not match ur workload. hav discussion wit ur big boss. either they appoint more staff or increase ur salary. giv them facts n figure wats d current market rate. anyway, u jus dinaikkan pangkat, dun think its wise to ask for another increment.

usually as u go up d ladder, d more u go for meetings n giving out ideas or management rather than designing.

Jump ship, in programming engineer for 2 years experience the new market rate is 4k - 6k.

I don't see any reason for you to fight with the company anymore for your salary adjustment, if they wanted to do so, they would have done it after your 2nd year.

I also don't think now is the time to ask for increment since i just get promoted, though i wish i can earn more. As for now, i can still work out my management skill. It's not easy but worth learning biggrin.gif Actually i'm not really sure how i should plan for my career advancement, but i'm working toward the direction of software consultancy / software architect.

Seems like i'm more or less underpaid. Maybe i should start to look at the offers out there to see whether there are better jobs sweat.gif

What happens if you reach the max level of your salary, but you know you won't get to the next level in terms of promotion? How do the company address that?

For an example; Admin maximum salary level accordance is 3500 until retirement. Process of jumping hop hoping for higher salary most companies will give a maxium pay raise of extra RM300, if the companies are willing to hire you.

There will be no extra salary, until you get promoted to Admin Manager level. Each and every company has their budget localization for each post.

Job Desciption : Process loan
Years spent in company : 2 yrs and 3 months
Company : Credit and leasing company
Industry : Finance?
Tenure : Permanent

Highest paper qualification/ education background : degree in BA- major banking n finance, no extra cert.
salary : 2500 (new join) -2750 (first review) -3000 (current), gross amount

Not sure if underpay but promotion is rather slow. Believed if jump to another bank may bear Sr. title due to job experience. Age 25 soon. Anyone on same field?
