May I know what is the career progression from here onwards? Only 2 years in the bank and you are already head of finance. What is the likely pay in the 40s?

Not bad. Being in the sales line, the sky is your limit, if you want to go for it, bring in more sales revenue and get that 10k basic with the fancy manager name in 3 - 5 years.

I'm not sure myself mate, because I just became a HoD less than 1 year at my new job. I guess how I got the job was through networking (thanks to my contacts from my Big 4 years). Assuming that I don't screw up at my current job (as the learning curve is super steep and the responsibilities are too demanding cry.gif), the logical career progression would either be the head of finance or CFO of a big organisation. That's what I'm aiming for all this while (fingers crossed icon_rolleyes.gif )

As for pay, hopefully I'll earn more when I'm in my 40s nod.gif

At RM19k and assuming 6 months bonus, your gross pay RM342k? Very high oh. What is the immediate superior on top of Head of Department? Is it Head Of Finance? Do you know roughly how much a Head of Finance earns? Very curious about banking pay structure because all the while I know investment bank earns very high but I presume you are at commercial bank. Seems also very high. Good job. What do you mean by responsibilities too demanding? And how is the work hours for people your rank?

Yup, I think so too.

Currently seeking greener pastures. What should I be aiming for? Minimum of RM5K per month?

Is normal, Master Degree only paid off after few years of experience.

It can't guarantee higher paid, but only career opportunity.

Sad, but true. I do not have any advantages over my peers in terms of salary, in the current organization. Like you said, hopefully I will reap further benefits from the post-graduate degree as I gain more work experience.

Please read his post, he is Head of Finance now -.-" And u can't put an assumption of 6 months bonus even in banks, especially foreign banks as they are regulated by BNM, in which more strict compared to local banks. Plus, global economics as well. I believe he is reporting to CFO, or CCO.

Job Title : Sr. Software Development Engineer
Job Description : Build software interface for machinery
Years spent in company : 2 years 5 months (only 6 months in current post)
Company : Local
Industry : Automation
Tenure : Permanent
Employment Level : Sr.
Experience before joining : 0 years (joined as fresh graduate)
Highest paper qualification/ education background : Degree
salary : RM 2400 > RM 2500 (after probation) > RM 2750 > RM 3162.5 (after promotion) > RM 3213 (current)

Why i like the job?
i. doing the thing i'm interested in
ii. great sense of achievement
iii. chance of traveling oversea for setup purpose

Why i dislike the job?
i. always rushing for project
ii. imbalance life style

When compared with the newly joined engineer, their starting pay after probation is RM 2800, which make me feel i'm kind of underpay. Is the pay for senior considered normal in the current market?

Since promoted as senior, my manager started to delegate resource management related task (assign projects to junior, etc) to me. I do realize that this is the chances for me to learn about management, but most of the time i find myself not able to focus on projects assigned to me due to the distraction.

Frankly, i'm enjoying working here since there are things (technical, management) that i think i can learn here. If the workload can be reduced, that will be the best. Still, if the pay does not match with the workload, i'll still consider leaving the company for a better wages.

Any advices from the anyone that has been working for many many years?
