http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/new...ion-toys/29167/QUOTE But as the brand evolved over the years, the toys became more complex, some involving dozens of steps to complete a single transformation. In the eyes of Brian D. Goldner, Hasbro’s chief executive, they had lost their magic.
“We’ve made incredibly sophisticated robots,” he said, “but it can be like a 1,000-piece puzzle.”
Enthralled by the special effects in three big-budget “Transformers” movies that enabled the robots to convert in a matter of seconds, Mr. Goldner decided the toys needed to return to their roots. So he challenged his design team to reconceive them. Now, on the 30th anniversary of the brand, Hasbro is revealing a new look for the toys, including simple maneuvers that will complete a transformation with the push of a button or flick of the wrist. Isnt the complexity part of the magic of transformers? Even when I was young I loved that part of playing with transformers

Even when I was young I loved that part of playing with transformers Yeah for me I hated one era of transformers where the transformation is just flipping out panels and voila transformed (I believe you guys call it shell transformers?). The more complex the transformation the better (though I understand how it could be bad for kids I guess)

Even when I was young I loved that part of playing with transformers I'm also a sucker for complex TF but besides MP series, there's nothing Hastak has that enticed me. Just to be fair, past TF movie toys did seemed to be pretty challenging for kids. Flaps and parts must snap together snugly; when one step missed out, the subsequent steps are rendered useless. But kids these days their attention span are pretty low. MY nephew once asked me to help him transform a few deluxe figures after he complained its too hard. I've seen him throwing tantrums over failure to do it too.

Complexity has it's pros and cons. Since Hasbro (unlike TakaraTomy) is aiming the Transformers franchise towards kids they have find ways to simplify the transformation process as to make them kid friendly. For example they made a lot of the movie toys transformation so complex that even parents are having a hard time transforming it. Another reason for them to try and simplify the transformation process may also be due to cost cutting measures as complexity in production come at a cost. They will save cost by combining the more simplify kids line of toys with the regular release of TFs. Hasbro may have made the decision based the poor sales of the recent TF toy line. On the other hand this may result in the dwindling interest in the number of veteran collectors who appreciate more intricate designs and complex transformation as most of them will probably be turning towards 3rd party company since their products are catering more towards adult collectors. To simply put it it's a double edge sword situation... make them too complex the parents will turn away... make it too simple the collectors turn away. At the moment I have to say the CHUG series is currently one of best line of TF they have given us with not-so-overly-complex but still intuitive transformation design at very affordable price (Not to mention a lot of G1 character reference which I really appreciate ). Why can't Habro make the other line ups with the same caliber as is beyond me . Just my 2 cents...
