Interesting. You don't hear many who use the term and may know what content marketing is really. But anyway.. the moment you decided to quit your full-time job to working on your own is yourself telling yourself you will be full-time on your own - no more comfort of having a paycheck at the end of the month.

Passion doesn't pay the bills. Passion is the energy which keeps you interested in what you're doing. When you lose passion, you lose interest and energy in what you're doing.

What would put food on your table are projects. And projects mean business. Business means you either get the job done, or you don't and not do the business anymore.

This is why others dua-kerja. You keep at your work, but work on your side projects because it's out of passion. If you happen to make it sustainable, then you consider to be a business.

What are you looking to accomplish? Divi should be straight forward having a page builder in there.

Thanks you so much because take time to give me your feedback. Im trying come back with my path by taking step by step. I'm also trying find a place for only freelancer to  sharing not only for looking for job.
Are you a freelancer too?

I've switched from being a full-time freelancer into a business.

If you're a full-time freelancer, you're holding a job. Exception is that your working hours aren't fixed - could be more, could be less.

From my experience, being a freelancer does not mean you do not have job.

If you're looking for quick results, then either (A) you give your services for free (B) you are damn famous © you spend money getting others to know you - advertising / networking events

Firstly, because maybe your friends or family business currently do not need aa... Website, system, software or any apps.
Their current business. We cant expect the whole people even a hardware shop need a web or system,
and maybe most of them are just employee.
As you know employee cant decide on how to spend the company's money or the direction.
You should go to approach a top-tier management, where maybe some of your friends or relatives are.
Repeat, might be. For sure marketing is the damned hardest part for a freelancer. Where Facebook, Google or even
Instagram are thriving on this "seems-unimportant" part of the business.
And I wish you luck, brother.

I am thinking of outsourcing all website designing work so that I can concentrate on offering my core services involving digital marketing such as SEO and SEM.

I use Wordpress and mainly use Divi theme. So if I outsource the website designing (on Divi) and if some client has some changes AFTER project delivery, I can still able to assist with the minor changes or tweaks.
CSS and designing is not my strength.

Hi sifus (etsuko, goldfries and many others).

This thread has been a goldmine.
I am just starting out in the web design industry.
I wanted to do a portfolio, but sadly I do not have previous work to show, thus I only came up with this.
http://boonwebdesign.com/
Any advice for someone to do freelancing without previous work to show?

Should I just start doing websites for free?
Also, looking from the view of prospective client/employer, anyway for me to improve the website?

Sincerely hungry.

With the market having too many designers and developers today..

1. What makes you different than the rest ?

2. What's your core expertise, or focus ? UX ? UI ? Frontend ? Backend ? System design?

3. Once you've found your answer to #1 and #2, start creating side projects of your own to demonstrate how are you different (1) and why you're more specialized (2).

The website you've got now communicates that you're looking for a job, not clients. To make it less like you're looking for a job, remove sections like employment and education.

Never do websites for free just because you're starting up. It leaves a bad impression to the industry. Instead, charge a minimum rate which you'd think is worth your time and expertise. Personally, aything below RM500 to me is ridiculous.

I hope this helps. smile.gif

*like*

1. Errm, I guess I should start aiming at landing pages. I always think that the only reason you have a website is to get more sales. So the value is to increase the company's sale, signup, get people to click and buy their services.
2. My current core expertise is integration, but I am trying to move to the frontend and sales-sy part.
3. Okay, I guess time to create side projects! Thanks, Etsuko!

On another topic, dropping this checklist. Things to do before handing over. http://humaan.com/checklist/

Setting up the basic forum isn't difficult. But the costly part (if you take LYN as an example) is:

1. Creating a community
2. Modifying forum source code to include functions / features, which may not exist from the basic setup
3. Hiring a team to moderate the forums
4. And when you do get to the size of LYN, sales / marketing people to find / manage advertisers

I hope this gives you a better realistic expectation to possibly re-frame your question. smile.gif
