Hi guys, I need some advice here. I just started working not long ago and planning on doing some investment.  How many many funds should i start with? I roughly know how it works on fundsupermart. Should i just follow on what is recommended and buy a few of them?

Instead of us repeating everything all over again, why don't u do homework and re-read the whole thread? tongue.gif

getting to know yourself, then......the others

buying a few of what is recommended may not suit your risk appetite or returns expectation. shocking.gif

let's say i have Fund A with initial of 1k. 1 year later, the value of Fund A is 1.2k. Then i switch Fund A to RHB-OSK Cash Management Fund 2 (CMF).

In such case, how do i track my profit of 0.2k? Or my profit is not considered anymore since i switch to CMF?

If you do a full switching, then there's nothing to track.

But if you do a partial switching, then whatever remains, you can still track.

Portfolio profit is still there (thru "Analyse my portfolio"), cos it's based on cash flows:

Portfolio value
LESS
Cash buys
ADD
Cash sells
= Portfolio profit

As for the 200 profit...after u did full switching, it's "gone" from your portfolio summary

yup, exactly what i thought as well. that's the reason why i cant really trace how much $$ that I've profited/loss for the past 4 years since i began investing in UT especially for those switches I've made over the years.

That's why I prefer to do my own tracking of IRR and P/L...not that FSM system is bad, but no way it can cater for everything nod.gif

If using excel, keep track of the switches in another tab. This tab will show the realised gains/losses.

The main tab, on the current portfolio, would show initial investment of 1.2k on CMF and its current status.

Total profit = current status of portfolio + total gains/losses of past switches.

do you mean all the proceeds from the selling of fund ABC will go back to EPF and I will have to start from scratch again by withdrawing the 20% from epf acc 1 for every 3 months?

Q: What form do I need to submit for EPF switching order?

A: You need to submit the In-House switching form. The form is downloadable at Transactions > Forms.
All EPF Intra Switching will only be processed after FSM receives the complete documents. Switching order will be processed on the same business day if all required documents are received before 3pm. If the documents are received after 3pm or a non business day, orders will be processed on the next business day.

EXCEPTION:

For fund switching under the management of OSK-UOB Unit Trust Management Berhad and OSK-UOB Unit Trust Management Berhad - Smart Series Funds, you need to submit In-house Switching form and a Master Application form.

some of the general details are here as per
http://www.ppa.my/prs/whats-new/prs-youth-incentive-rm500/

as for more and about how to get the RM500 one-off contribution from the Government... I guess they have many more months to decide and announce.

means that entitle only once for 2014-2018.. plenty of time for the government to decide.. if invest RM1000 get RM500 free, can get 50% return, but only can realise it after retirement..
