Is there a difference in SQ between the newer versions of the HD6x0 and the earlier versions?
The older model have black screens around the drivers while the newer model have silver screens around the drivers. It seems that in some forums, there were discussions about the change in the materials surrounding the drivers. making the infamous Sennheiser 'veil' gone. According to the official Sennheiser statement, there is no difference. This makes one wonder about the effect of aftermarket cables on the two versions. listening impressions on my HD600 (newer model) with a DHC cable, playing thru the Audio-GD19 & C-2 (a very neutral and natural sounding set-up), sound very bright, almost metallic and slightly harsh. I compared this with the HD800, which sounded very, very balanced. With a stock HD600 cable, it still sounded brighter than the HD800, though congested and unrefined. Switching the DHC for the Cardas cable make the HD600 closer to the sonic signature of the HD800 though without the HD800 timbral naturalness and expansive soundstage. Interestingly, when the DHC cable is used on the HD25-13 (older version), the SQ become much more better - better highs, the mids and bass more balanced now. With the Cardas cable, the HD25 have a slightly edgier treble. Maybe because the HD25 has a brighter sonics compared to the rest of the Sennheiser cans. Perhaps the aftermarket cables synergises better with different versions. Maybe the brighter DHC type of cables work better with the HD650 models (older version??) than the newer versions? Maybe can try an earlier version of a HD650 if available, or even a HD600. Maybe trade my current set... |

Maybe can try an earlier version of a HD650 if available, or even a HD600. Maybe trade my current set... I thought the discussions were interresting. Some of the forumners there seem to think the newer versions are better and don't seem to require upgrade cables as much. Again it's caveat emptor, your mileage may vary depending on your equipment. On my part, I bought a Double Helix Cable as an upgrade for my HD600, thinking it would improve the sound. Well, it was harsh at first so I thought it might be because of the burnin, but as time goes time, and now with some newer equipment, it still sounded too bright and not like the classic neutrality the HD600 was famous for. In the end, I switched back to the older Cardas cable, and things definitely are much more balanced..The HD600 and Cardas really synergises well. The DHC cable? I used it on a HD25-13 (old version) and it sounds like a HD600 closed can I guess, for reference sake, discussions about the HD580/600/650 maybe could mention if its a newer or older versions. PS. Urm, anyone wanna swap their old version with the copper ring core of their HD600 for a brand new version? This post has been edited by damieneo: Apr 19 2010, 11:50 PM |

Malaysian left a disappointment experience for Sennheiser personnel running the PC fair show on 18th April 2010.
Some one stole one unit IE8 from the display booth. |

Fuyo..hahaha..
Anything I can do with my HD555? People often recommend upgrading to HD580/600/650..But I don't have any amps yet, and don't really plan to get 1.. I compared HD 555 with my AD700, and I don't know how to describe, but AD700 sounds very...bright? Very sharp sound...HD 555 sounds warm and laid back.. Is that how to describe the sound? I like HD 555's sound signature better..Like the sound envelops my head..Plus it's super comfy.. Anything that sounds like that but is a step up? Was thnking of D2k, M50, HFI780.. |
