i'm looking at the accord to replace my aging perdana V6. Anyone upgraded to the accord 2.4 can tell me what is the fuel consumption like? not interested in the 2.0 as the LED headlamps and the ED engine are the deciding factors.

Most potential 2.4 owners are still waiting for delivery....

yes. my SA told me i can only get mine on January 2013 b4 CNY, unless i booked before the launching date.

Do most owners get the 2.0 or 2.4 and why? A bit worried whether the new Earthdreams engine is reliable. And the 18" inch rim, is it going to be costly replacing the tyres?

In short, I am trying to see whether it is worth paying extra 22k to get the 2.4 or could it be that the 2.0 is actually better maintenance wise in the future?

22k is not a big sum but could it be counter productive?

yes. for me, 22k is worth the price with so many extra features. but bear in mind, after 5 years, when you want to sell it, there will be no diff in price between 2.0 and 2.4

let's list out what are the downsides of 2.4 compared to 2.0:-

- double the cost of roadtax
- higher FC
- tires are more expensive to replace
- low profile tires so rims are prone to damage
- same 5 speeder as the 2.0
- still no curtain airbags
- not that much more powerful compared to 2.0
- potentially higher maintenance cost for engine

Add also more expensive LED headlamps if need to replace.

I suggest try to test drive both 2.0 & 2.4 and go with what your heart tell you

went to 2 showrooms and they only have the 2.0

Try Era Baru Sales at Jalan Seminyih. I test drive 2.4 there.

Some member said Global Almighty Bangi also have 2.4 for test drive.

Generally Honda has instructed the dealers not to use 2.4 as display car or as test drive car due to its limited availability and released it to customer. That the reason most showroom use 2.0 as display and test drive car (cost could be the other reason i think).

should we wait the 2014 unit due to depreciation factor, comparing to get one in year end 2013 if you have the chance?

Depends on your preference.... I am looking to get as soon as possible so I don't mind to take 2013 unit in November. ....

i think our Malaysia earth dream engine is same as previous version, slight modified for reduce co2.

the true earth dream will have the same performance like mazda 6 2.5 !

haiz, its hard to decide picking accord or mazda 6.

If bermaz ckd mazda 6 the prices might drop a bit make it even more a competitor to other D segment cars...

But the interior of mazda 6 feel smaller than accord and accord wins hands down in term of interior layout and design.

Firstly bro I don’t mean to condemn Mazda 6, for my defense I did say Mazda6 spec far superior to Accord’s.

I might agree that Accord build quality is maybe lower compared to Mazda 6, but we must keep in mind one is CKD and another is CBU Japan, so difference in build quality and finishing are expected.

But to say Accord a “tin kosong” doesn’t reflect well on your intelligence.

I haven't seen the Mazda 6 so cannot comment on the car, you have to understand not everyone shares the same priorities. Everyone has been prasing the Mazda 6 looks so nice, imported and has much better quality, value and handling than the Accord, Camry or Teana. However, I don't like the looks of the Mazda 6. It may look sporty and aerodynamic but I prefer the looks of the Accord and Teana over the Mazda 6. Everyone's taste is not similar. To me the Mazda 6 looks overly sporty, and I prefer the more elegant look of the new Accord(and even the Teana) over the Mazda 6.

I have seen the interior of the Accord, and it looks nice with good space for occupants at the back seat. Perhaps you should post in the thread Wiraone has suggested above.

Mazda 6 are generally more "compact" feel due to their "sport" design approach. The rear will not be comfortable for 3 adults seating. On this note, accord is the clear winner.

Just wondering, for accessories, do they have any warranty at all? I came across a posting in HONDA Malaysia FB, someone making fuss about the door visors become decolourised but the SC won't replace them.

sport design aside, the mazda 6 is designed to be marketed in both US and Europe whereas Malaysian/ASEAN Accord is based on USDM Accord where everything must be XXXL. Hence, the Mazda 6 do feel a bit cramp but in Europe market, it is considered just enough for a D-seg sedan.

Even the Euro Accord loses a bit of interior space compared to USDM Accord.

Any idea to get the floor mat in malaysia for new accord?

WeatherTech doesn't have any reseller in Malaysia and I believe most of the floor mats are made for the left hand drive models. So, a bit out of luck for us.

Since we will be in November in two week time have anyone heard of any year end discount offer for Accord 2013?

My original delivery date is Feb/March 2014, but few weeks back my SA told me, if I want there is possibility that I can get in November. I don’t mind taking it in November if there is some discount or good deal offered.

I have checked www.honda.com.my good discount for all other models but none for Accord.

So I want to know if other Accord buyers have any discount offered by their SA informally.

Highly doubt so since its a newly launched car hence there will be no discount given even if its year end car. Unless you can wait till jan-march when they desperately want to sell the 2013 year accord if the sales is not very good

I wonder will the market demand and resale value of accord and honda drop due to proton rebadging the outgoing accord.

If they're going for mass production replacing the Perdana, I believe the value for the previous generation will get affected. I was really in dilemma when I need to decide weather to go for Accord or Mazda6. It surely will affect some of the resell value for the current model too. I was however, sweat talked by the salesman saying that the rebadge will only for government orders and not for mass production. Will see how true this will be and hopefully it won't affect much for us later on.

Read somewhere the rebadged Perdana Replacement could be the new Accord model.

It would mean suicide for Honda... I dont think Honda will treat their customer in this manner...

It was in the news, though not to worry to much as the rebadged Proton Perdana replacement will likely be based on the Honda Accord's chassis only. The body, no details yet either it's from the 8th generation or 9th generation or even if it doesn't look an Accord. The engine will not be a Honda engine but a (presumably Malaysian-made) Petronas engine.

Guys, anyone knows the hill start assist? I stopped at a traffic light with a bit of incline (going uphill) and releasing the brake made the car going backward. Is there anything that needs to be switched on?

The gear shifter should be in S mode/position I think. This is based on Accord USA manual which I am reading now, coudnt find malaysian accord manual so I am reading the usa manual just get my self ready for my car.

Thanks, but I've always have the gear in D (we don't have S, at least not on my 2.0 variant). Will check the manual again, but both my Triton & C200, the cars seem wanted to go forward at the same traffic light (while waiting for the green of course).

First we need to test whether the DVD/movie in motion lock is linked to parking brake or speedometer/gps.

Park you car in safe place, try to play dvd/movie with parking brake off,

> if you can still play dvd/movie with parking brake off it means the video in motion lock is linked to either speedometer or gps to determine the car in motion or stationery. This is very hard to bypass.

if it is same as other honda, the hill assist can be activated by fully press down the brake. perhaps you want to check the manual?

just got back from test drive for accord 2.0 vti. feels like a bit of a chore to climb up a quite steep hill. engine was loud and lack of power when going uphill. Contary to most reviews, i find the NVH is still subpar for 2.0 as the noise from the engine is still audible from the driver seat and back seat. Too bad no GPs and reverse camera to play with.

What is your current vehicle in that you feel the Accord 2.0 feels underpowered in climbing up a steep hill?

I am just driving Honda Insight and i feel my Insight would perform better than Accord. Surprisingly sluggish or maybe because i did not press the pedal harder? all i can hear is the loud engine noise and the car is trying very hard to climb the hill. I test drove with my parents on board.

On my way back from the SC (I sent my Insight for service) i took the same route with the steep hill and my Insight has no problem climbing up tho the engine needs to work hard a bit.

Not sure if it is problem with the car? Perhaps i should test drive again in another showroom as I only manage to test drive 2.0 vti and unable to check out the feature on 2.0 vti-L such as navigation and reverse camera.

Would invite anyone who had owned or test driven the new Honda Accord 2013 2.0 litre version to share some intelligent thoughts and inputs.

I may be considering to purchase an Accord 2.0 litre next year, my main priority for car this time is comfort.

Any inputs, in particular relating to comfort are most welcomed. Performance is welcomed too (though I expect some near mediocre level of acceleration in view of the heavy weight of the car).

How does it go on highway speed, how does it go on bad town roads with patches everywhere, rough and coarse road surface...

Quietness or NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness)
As I understand, this is one of the main issues of 8th generation, being one of the (if not) the noisiest in its class.
- Is it a huge improvement over current model? From multiple reviews it may seem so, but I would like to hear from those who drove it and are familiar with it in comparison to other models.

- Is engine noise intrusive?
- Does it do well on rough and coarse road surface?
- at Highway speeds, say 110km/h, 150km/h.. Is it very good?

I am wondering how much of an improvement with dropping double wishbone, some added sound insulation and Active Noise Cancellation makes.

Again how does it compare against competitions like Camry, Teana and Optima.

Interior / Seat Comfort - -
- How does it feel over a long distance drive of several hours?
Is rear passengers well served in terms of seat comfort? Supportive enough without being too hard?

Again, compared against the competition.


And lastly performance of 2.0 litre engine on Accord
I am wondering with the now ageing 5 speed auto and massive weight of 1500kg, this car is going to be a slouch, I am expecting it.
Though, still nice to hear how it compares to similar 2.0litre of Camry, Teana and Optima.

Appreciate some comments by owners of the new Accord on the quality of the car.

I would say that my expectation is much higher on this car but I've experienced few things that have dislodged and not working as they should. Pretty shoddy job they've done.. On my 2nd week, rattles coming from my 3rd brake light and few days ago, found that I couldn't release the back seat latch, the holder dislodged itself. Need to ask them to rectify on the next service.

Book my 2.4 Accord and paid 1K booking fee today. SA proposed that better take 2014 year make accord. So most likely will get the new ride after CNY. Looking forward to join the accord family.

Any1 had problem with their Navi? Experiencing some issue. Looks more like the satellite issue to me because the map isn't moving any where even I'm at another different location.

Mine works just fine, no problem in receiving the satellites signal. Is this intermittent? Do you tint your windscreen?

It's not intermittent, it's permanent. And yes, windscreen tinted. Because it's my friend's car, I'm not sure what tint is that.

The gps antenna is on the dashboard and I believe the tint might cause the problem with the satellite reception. I'm using Llumar and I've no problem with it for now.

My accord windscreen bottom rubber near wiper not stick to the windscreen and look like wave. Anyone car got this problem?

lim, nope, mine looks okay. BTW, anybody has installed any 3rd party accessories which pull the power from the battery.. just wondering if this will void the warranty. I'm thinking of installing my ham radio rig into the car, the power cable will be from the battery through the grommet at the firewall. This should be the same as those installing a poweramp. Will this void the warranty?

Any additional thing you install will be void warranty especially u touch tap the power from battery.

I've just realised that my auto doors lock doesn't work anymore. The car is my wife's daily car and I could only get my hands on the car during weekend. Anything to make it working again or should I ask SC to reactivate it when I send the car for the next service?

Check the i-MID settings. Honda now is similar to BMW iDrive.

Check "Vehicle Settings" > "Door Setup" > "Auto Door Lock"

Thanks, I believe they updated the iMID software and took out that setting during my first service. There is no Auto Door Lock option when I go to the "Door Setup" menu. Will need to ask them to put back in the option, no idea why they remove that, with things reported in the social medias, I believe it is much safer for my wife to drive with the auto door lock set as default.

Getting my 2.0 vti tomorrow. Fixed Gps + rear camera = RM2800. Leather Seat = RM 1900 . Total = RM4700 but managed to get RM2800 cash discount on the car price.

Any one here have problem with auto levelling headlamps for accord 2.4? Mine looks like not functioning at all.

You are right, perhaps that is 100% highway drive FC. (8.2L/100km = 12.2L/KM). In Paultan Video, it shown the FC also 12.2L/KM.

That's why i want to check from others member whether it's normal.

Anyone can comment on the sound system of Accord 2.4? It is stated "premium" in the commercial. Any feedback?
