http://www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/region/south-africa
2011/12 - murder - 15,609 murders ........... ( Malaysia Jan-June 2012 - 291 cases )

( South African statistics for 2011 -2013 show the murder index not sure if it all inclusive ie. to include Homicides as well or just exclusive to murder but looking at their statistics from previous years ...only murder and does not include other homicides which would increase figure very conservatively by xxx times).
South Africa’s murder rate is therefore about FOUR AND THE HALF TIMES HIGHER than the GLOBAL AVERAGE of 6.9 murders per 100 000.(WITHOUT THE xxx FIGURE )

THAT IS LESS THAN ONE YEARS OFFICIAL STATISTIC !
MALAYSIA
Gun Homicides - 41 (1995) out of 396 homicides , 64 out of 604 homicides (2006)
- ( could not get latest but historically around that range)
From 2000 to date number of policemen killed in gun related violence - 5 people
FIGURE SLIGHTLY HIGHER I THINK BUT LESS THAN 10 PEOPLE ...IN ...13 YEARS ! (Not including Lahad Datu )
ONE LIFE LOST IS ONE LIFE TOO MANY AND I HATE TO LIST A HUMAN BEING AS A MERE STATISTIC !
2013 OFFICIAL STATISTICS....CRIME RATE DROPPED IN 2013 !
Of this figure, robbery (including gang robbery) with firearms also increased, from 69 cases to 74.
Murders rose from 291 cases in the first six months of 2012 to 322 cases in 2013. THE FIGURES LISTED ARE FOR ALL MURDERS NOT ONLY BY FIRE ARMS.
( Gun Homicides - 41 (1995) out of 396 homicides , 64 out of 604 homicides (2006) so once again the muder rate still hovers at the historical region ! factoring in population growth)
Indexed crime for the period of January-June 2012 totaled 76,247 reported cases. THIS DROPPED by 2,120 cases to 74,127 in 2013.

SOLILOQUY.....pray tell are there any reason/s why SOP should not be followed ....apart from it being the LAW !
Malaysia is still a relatively VERY SAFE country to live in in comparison with other countries per size and population the statistics show so. This is thanks to our strict gun laws which I totally support, our boys in blue as well as the military and all other unsung forward units.
HOW EFFECTIVE ? THE STATISTICS SHOW SO !!!.... MINUS THE SPIN and EXPEDIENCY !
