Well, if you want bass, then do get a HT subwoofer and it can partner with any speakers, whether big or small as the subwoofer has adjustable bass level, high cut level and also bass type (for movie or music), for Yamaha subwoofers, other brands have other controls for you to tweak the subwoofer to your liking, I mean more things to play lah if compared to normal pc sound systems, AL only allow you to adjust the loudness of the subwoofer and that's all, you can't do much with it. I guess you agree with my point of view, no lah, I'm not bashing AL, I'm a supporter of AL too. But for the price comparison, AL is really value for money to be honest.

Well, I'm afraid you can't because the CS21 is using fixed connectors unless you can find someone to DIY for you, the reason I bought MX5021 was because the speaker cables are upgradeable. Anyway, the cables alone won't give you better bass, maybe a sharper and less boomy bass but definitely not a louder bass. Anyway, I've asked around for you but sadly, there no pc subwoofers available seperately that suit your musical taste. Sorry Bro, I did try asking for you.

As far as I know, MX5021 only has changeable speaker cables, 2-3 years later, you won't think about LYN or AL lah, got gf already, where got time for this?

but in my opinion, everyone has their own taste of speakers.. I realise it when I got my own MX5021.. for example.. some might love MX5021 because it has strong mids and highs and a taut bass.. while some like Logitech/Klipsch for its 'rounder' boomier bass reproduction.. so everyone have their own definition of 'best speaker'.. 
For me, there's no point of up-mixing a stereo source for 5.1 playback right? so if what you do is listening to music, a 2.1 set would be sufficient.. getting a 5.1 setup (together with the cable mess) is only worth if you're serious in surround movies and gaming.. 

Heck, for movies that's downloaded from BT sites, they're good enough for 2.1 sets already...

Dun say like that lah, not pro or what lah, just that I spend a lot of time auditioning such speakers. As for 2.1 and 5.1  systems, if your preference is only straight stereo music, you shouldn't get a 5.1 systems as most 5.1 systems don't sound so great for normal music listening, if you're more into games and movies, you can consider getting a 5.1 system.

If you're looking for a good 2.1 system, so far I prefer AL MX5021, Aego M and Klipsch 2.1, these three are strong contenders for 2.1 systems. As for 5.1 systems, the best I've heard is Logitech Z-5500. I have't listened to AL FX5051 though, will give it an audition soon.

I don't have the website for subwoofers, you need to get the catalogues from the shops directly and yeah, it's free, no need to worry. I guess if you're getting Aego M, I wouldn't recommend you to use with CS21 because both are in the same league. If you want the whole apartment rattle, better get Klipsch. That one got more low end kick. 
Cycom or C-Zone should have it.

I give MX5021 the edge. FX4021 - if you try to listen to this speaker, you'll notice that it sounds flat, nothing great (same with FX6021). It is the default setting - flat. However, once you hit the loud button in the control pod (loud increases the treble and bass setting), then you will appreciate this speaker better. MX5021 is the reverse, it is a bright speaker, must decrease the treble. That's the reason most people will immediately jump for MX5021 because it places much emphasis on the high notes. If I breakdown them:

Highs - MX5021 is ahead (decreased treble).
Mids - tie, but I feel both of them has certain hollowness in some vocals (both uses polypropelene material).
Lows - tie, both are not punchy, just low frequency sound but not boomy like the VS4121 model. FX4021 claims that it has isobaric subwoofer to make it stronger, but I can't feel it, something could be wrong with their design.

Some models of MX5021 has static hiss, changing the cable helps a lot. Altec speakers are notoriously known for static hiss. There is one more speaker I feel is more balanced and worth looking, the CS21 (disadvantage is that it has no remote control and no treble adjustment). But none of these models can match 621 and 641 models.
