in my opinion regarding this viewing angle issue, of course i wan the best screen on my phone, compared my XZ and my iphone 5, i amazed with the contrast, more vibrant color and deep black level of the iphone 5, how i wish my xz was using that kind of screen panel. however most of the time i look at the straight on and the screen is still beautiful. im surprised that z1 didnt use the same panel as zultra or tablet z as these 2 didnt have any viewing angle problem.

btw i totally agree with u, i dont think this viewing angle be too much of an issue to the mass market. the normal average consumer dont care with this kinda of thing, only us techie people are bothered with this kind of thing, things like specs and so on. i met a lot of people - my colleague, or customers, using phones that doesnt has viewing angle issue like s3,s4,iphone 5 note1,2, htc one,  but what funny is that these people mostly applied matte type of screen protector. demm matte sp definitely will ruined the beautiful screen, everything looks demm grainy. not to mentioned people that applied privacy or mirror sp. these are even worst, totally killed the viewing angle view.

so i can conclude that, as long as head on view are beautiful, for normal average consumer, they still will buy it. other example are if sony has viewing angle problem, then samsung has this build material issue where they used plastic on their high end phones, but does it affect their sale? not at all.
i still hope that sony will continue improving and give us even better product in the future, my dream phone from sony will be super excellent display for the screen, audio chip from their walkman, good speaker, and excellent camera and software optimization. thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif

People use matted SP because lazy of clean up finger print, I personally never like it, but it not affecting viewing angle.

Privacy SP - not really much people using it. The users is too much little.

Blink SP - a lot girl love it, the screen still look nicer actually.

Tried it with the iPhone 5. Looks kinda weird with the QX100 overpowering it in size. Z1 size is just nice.

It gonna affected, I know you want it badly, but not everyone.

Two my friends already decide skip it because of viewing angle. It just a poor display anyway.

Customer just need to pass by and see "err how come the screen is..." then not even need to step in to check around as the screen already make customer leaving.

Not only display, the bezel is too tick also.

For me, Z Ultra is ahead of Z, using great display, slimmer and much beauty design.

But this Z1? thicker and never look nicer than Z at all, don't said only turn back to poor display after Sony use great display in Z Ultra.

The best of Sony is getting better is not really there, beside the great camera, this Z1 had nothing better than Z Ultra or even Z.

They is a lot wow factor when Sony release Z as Z really is beauty and the water resistance make some point that time. Then Z Ultra another wow factor as people see Sony finally decide use great display on it giant size display and superb slim body, and it against look much sexy than Z. When Z1 announcing, any wow factor? Not really, the detachable lens given much wow factor than this Z1.

All my friends said wow when I show them Z, they said it is sexy beauty, when I show them Z Ultra, they said OMG! over crazy big but look pretty awesome sexiness. During the time I show them Z1, the only comment I get is errr... how come the bezel is that crazy thick, err... so bulky look and etc. No one ever mention it look beauty. The beauty of Z1 no longer there, then now not even on par screen as Z Ultra, what is the left selling point of Z1? Afraid only that camera.

then i guess you and me have different type of friends. but that's just because different people have different preferences

its all about respecting people's choices, not making fun of them. i don't have a big deal with your gripe with the viewing angle issue, because i also don't seem to like the fact that sony still let the problem occur although they can solve it in the ZU. and its a well known fact that i believe almost evry1 who are ready to buy this phone are aware of

I didn't realize some folks are so much reliant on the opinions of others when buying their smartphones these days. Have to show friends to get their reactions before finalizing purchase. I thought the money you spend is for your own use and enjoyment?

I came from HTC ONE. Nothing is better, IMO, than HTC ONE's exquisite screen. But I look at the big picture when it comes to Z1. And that big picture is much sexier than the fixation on the screen alone. Contrary to the reactions some posted here about Z Ultra, my friends and me gets a "blerrgggh" impression at the Z Ultra, completely turned off by its humongous size. I don't want to answer a phone call and having it looked like I'm slapping my cheeks with a piece of side-face covering plastic. No thanks. The very same reason why I burst out laughing in public when I see folks using Galaxy Tab to answer phone calls. laugh.gif Irregardless of how beautiful the screen it.

What's the old adage says? "There's more than meets the eye". And the beauty of the Z1 to me is more than skin deep, its skin being the screen. The internals and the awesome snappiness of it makes me change my perception towards previous Android devices I've used before.

Ending this post with the obligatory: My two Euro cents.

Hopefully I can get my hands on the Z1 today! biggrin.gif

Will be selling my Samsung S3 afterwards tongue.gif

Regarding the viewing angle, I don't really find it an issue, the problem is that Sony decided to use a TFT panel instead of an IPS.. Why? I do not know..

But way before IPS came out, we were already using LCD/LED's TFT panels, so I don't see why the big hoo haa about it tongue.gif Just look at it face-on like we always use to.. Cheers!

bro, don't bother with him. he has an ego issue. from his post in his last paragraph it is obvious he buys it for his friends only. for many of us here we buy phones for ourselves, and despite us telling him we are not intimidated by viewing angle issues.... go figure. rolleyes.gif

i was very pissed off about the Z1 limited view angle when ZU does not have this issue. it is only when i read reviews that the Z1 screen is much better viewing headon vs the Z, I relax a lot. this is meant to be the successor of the Z.

I did not like the Z at all because they are still using a dated processor vs the S600 then. This is a very big issue for me as regards to future proofing despite the beauty of the phone, but did you see me post like a spoil kid in the forums? No! I just skipped it. I voted no with my wallet but I don't let the whole world knows about it. doh.gif

But ya. It's cool to have a lens sticking out of your phone.

This guy andrewtst put a lot n main concern is on display n image quality. I rarely hear his comments on others. So to him this is most important feature. Yes I do agree he tends to repeat himself on such stuffs.
So if your needs are different from him just ignore his comments. But I do agree with what he commented on the XZ n XZU . As I have yet to see the XZ1 what I know is based on web reviews only.

Went through a few reviews to learn that the screen itself is quite scratch prone. Any early adopter cares to comment on this? I am contemplating of switching from S4 to this sexy beast. I am a little anal on the durability. Cheers mate

Unlike other phones this n other Xperia phones comes with a anti shatter film which is scatchable. So putting on a SP is advisable.
