The logic is simple.

If you stay connected and stable it usually doesn't cause battery drain but if you are in an area that have weak coverage like LTE and HSDPA+ while it keep switching that will cause more battery drain.

Even good connectivity but slow Internet speed will cause battery drain because it takes longer to load the website/page so the faster it complete the task the lower the idle processor speed

I agreed, I'm planning use this phone till 2016 then only check any phone have any big diff/ achievement compare to this. I don't like wasting money on keep changing gadget following the trend. Phone for me can call, able to view my work documents, emails, fast taking pic anywhere beside you. For games and presentation, I will still prefer ipad mini, it has bigger screen...

I don't like pineng, it's feel like cheating using aa rechargeable battery...

Lumia 1020 suck battery juice like "HELL" ... LOL
Only can stand for half day ... : (

Try turning off a few things when not in use e.g. bluetooth, wifi, etc.. and change from 3G to LTE mode (or even 2G if possible) and turn off data as well.
Change to low brightness, and later set auto brightness on.
Change the display lock time to the shortest.
Glance screen set to peek (or off if not needed).
Exit/Kill all background running apps.
Block unwanted background tasks.
Limit/manual fetch all pushed data/email/etc.
Restart phone after every full charge.

The backup battery grip is too big to bring along if work... really need powerbank to survive for whole day ...
