Small fire broke out at GSC IOI City Mall Putrajaya on Wednesday night

It was reported that some 500 cinema-goers had panicked when they found that they were unable to get out as the door at the emergency exit was locked.

Although they were not in immediate danger, many of the patrons started to panic and started to shout and scream when no one turned up to open door after 15 minutes

I heard it's more of 200-300m. Don't know who the tenants are.

No, I'm not a frequent shopper there. I still prefer mv, pyramid or ikea as they are nearer where I live.

I can understand why people around the vicinity would frequent icm. Nearby, convenient, most shops there (this is the boring part of Malaysian malls where the shops are just replicas), etc. No big malls previously in this area and could only go to alamanda or jusco equinine.

Yeap.. this mall is for the south ppl n not the SW or west ppl like us.. Most malaysian malls are just like other malls n only hope is empire city to introduce diff concepts like french design etc!

Empire City delayed? I like shopping at malls. But I find we have too many malls nearby each other. Not sure how these malls will survive by cannibalizing itself with the same store brands or franchise. Hence, boredom sets in for me. Nothing unique to see.

Back to ioi city mall. I believe still can survive coz one of the first big malls in the area. If they can maintain their position with phase 2 and better mall mgmt, then all the better.

Msian like malls n many malls near each other will kill each other.. i always say a average chinese dinner restaurant makes more profit than a average midend chain due to high costs of operating within a mall..

If ioi mall die, i also die la .. sure can't fail due to little competition nearby.. putra, cyber ppl got gd spending power n they shld reli have shuttle busses to d nearest MRT station.. Paradigma KJ shuttle only once per hour...

the mall still very crowded, despite the news reported that many malls encounter slow down / tenants moving out..

well that's the only mall around there they can frequent around that no need to travel too far ..

Not bad la..so far went there for once.. big mall, quite number branded shop there, so far I felt the feng shui there is good. Able to attract ppl to spend $$$$ . XD

Yes as expected here 20km radius no big mall.. if i stay around here sure frequent here often.. who wana post pics of the phase 2 of the mall?

later some developer would build another "Mega Mall" near that area

Newsflow of new malls have greatly slowed down in 2015 as many retailers are hesitant on opening new outlets.. one major retail group just said this (source from Malaysia Retail Insight)

"...If any store failed to generate positive cashflow or profit it would be cut.For retail, we’d just consolidate because it’s challenging. So no point being a hero, where you open outlets and the sale is not there.”

wahlao, went ioi city for lunch n its dam crowded n even normal day (today is exception cos public hols) is quite good biznes..

I also said do well mah regional mall for the real south KL pipu.. many high spending crowd here... like index living mall v much.. can't be MV standard but i notice few empty lots.. occupancy around 85-90% for a mall with great performance
