using OTA or KIES, you will get update to the latest firmware.. so you can upgrade directly from 4.2.2 UMBG5 to 4.3 UEMJ5.. if official update, it will not trigger Knox flag..
*
Thanks for the quick reply. Opps sorry to mention I rooted the phone. So is it ok to use ODIN to upgrade?

Hi guys, need to ask. Can I upgrade directly from 4.2.2 UMBG5 to 4.3 UEMJ5? Will it trigger Knox flag? How to avoid? BTW am using i9505

First of all..do you intend of any rooting or modding..?

- if yes...then do not upgrade via OTA or Kies. You need to use custom 4.3 ROM coz you need to keep your old non-Knox bootloader.

- if no...then you can directly upgrade to EMJ5 directly via manually flashing the 4.3 firmware yourself. It won't trip any Knox flag.
Or you can upgrade via OTA from BMG5. > DMH6. > EMJ5
Or you can use Kies for upgrading.
After upgrading with this full stock 4.3 firmware...you cannot root or flash any custom kernel/recovery/ROM anymore as you will have a new Knox bootloader.

@waveweaver yes, rooting something I need. To date any custom 4.3 ROM based on stock? So far I am happy with the S4 stock ROM performance. On my previous GNex was big fan of AOKP. biggrin.gif

If you still need the root the I suggest you flash TW based custom 4.3 ROM as it's nearer to stock firmware. Just look around for any 4.3 custom ROM that did not include any boot loader.

P/S....Omega and Echoe both are 4.3 TW based custom ROM with no bootloader. Am using Echoe V5 Plus...right now without any issue.

Yes..I use the EMJ5 modem as my older BMG5 seems have problem registering and lock to network connection. See first if you have the same problem...if no problem then no need to flash the baseband/modem.

Wear and tear normally not covered by warranty but you can always go to service center and give it a try.
Volume rocker got nothing to do with rooting but it best to go to service centre with a stock unrooted phone. Just flash back your phone before go for checkup.

thanks a lot for your help! i went to samsung in gardens today and they replaced the button for me under warranty and in 30 minutes! smile.gif

didn't have to flash back my phone or whatever tongue.gif

Your phone are using Knox bootloader. It started since 4.2.2 DMH6. So far there's still no safe way to flashing any custom kernel/rom without triggering the Knox warranty void to 0x1.

here's my update on the issues i'm having after 4.3 update.

apps random crashes - most crashes are SOLVED with manual updates / redownloading the apps, others persistent crashes could be solved with factory reset and redownloading the app

gallery lag and freeze - SOLVED by backing up the sd card, and doing a reformat on the sd card.

significant battery draining when using - icon_question.gif

wifi connections showing unstable - icon_question.gif tested the wifi problem a few times with different wifis at different location. and manage to reset my home modem a few times, and even adjusting the modem channel, to see whether its my modem problem or phone problem. seems like a phone problem to me. the wifi shows that its still connected, and running, and i might still b able to on9 with the connectivity. but notifications show "wifi is unstable" and prompt me to "auto connect to other available wifi". dint experience this problem b4 update.

conclusion: will go for a factory reset to see if it solves the other unsolved problems. but doesnt seems related with factory reset or not hmm.gif
