Since we're talking about screens and so forth, I am wondering aloud how many have experienced dead pixels, in whatever brand of handphone?

I think there was 1 case reported in HTC One thread, but apart from that I don't recall anyone else ever reporting dead pixels in threads from the past year.

so you guys realize that Samsung S series trend

Galaxy S= boooo
Galaxy S2= yeayyy.. slim and nice display
Galaxy S3= booo ugly and laggy
Galaxy S4= ok..

so what do we anticipate from Galaxy S5? experimnetal 64bit smartphone which is going to fail?
*
I think the first gen of the 64 bit ARM androids will have power consumption issues. And I don't think Intel will allow Atom to migrate to 64 bit due to the way they think.

I don't think it's going to fail, since you are still going to run all your apps on Android.

What will be interesting to see is how Google is going to deal with this, but I suspect it's just going to be like Linux, run anything, 32 or 64 bits.

Ah, the Master speaks on 64bits....

https://plus.google.com/1122188726494564137...sts/Gbdj4XnE2QK

Since everyone seems to have an opinion about the iPhone 5s having a 64-bit processor, here's mine.

In the immediate future, this will make zero difference for consumers. Applications that ship today will continue to be compiled as 32-bit, so that they can run on all the other iOS devices as well. Since the iPhone 5s is likely to be faster than all those other iOS devices as well, there's little point right now optimizing an application for the iPhone 5s, everything that runs well enough on an iPhone 4s or iPhone 5 or iPhone 5c will run well enough on an iPhone 5s as well. Optimize for the low end, and the high end will take care if itself.

In the medium term, there will come a moment in time when all supported iOS devices have 64-bit support, with Apple dropping support for 32-bit devices. At that point, the iPhone 5s will be the oldest supported iOS devices, and the iPhone 5c won't be supported any more. Indirectly, that means that the iPhone 5s will have a longer useful life than the iPhone 5c, and since the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit is qualitative and not quantitative, it's possible that the useful life of an iPhone 5s will be more than one year longer than that of the iPhone 5c. Users who care about how long they can keep their phones before being forced to replace them because of obsolescence could consider the more expensive iPhone 5s over an iPhone 5c on this point alone, regardless of the other differences.

Finally, 64-bit support in the iPhone 5s is a great stepping stone for developers. Even though deploying 64-bit-only applications might not be practical for another few years, it's never too early to make sure that code compiles for 64-bit targets and passes all the unit tests, to run microbenchmarks, and maybe even for some dogfooding. In the long term, I can't rule out that Apple would remove 32-bit support entirely and would therefore mandate 64-bit applications, and it's probably easier to get ready on an ongoing basis than to go through a 64-bit fire drill many years down the road.

I foresee Intel going to phone processor at a mass scale soon and that will have a great impact on qualcomm and Samseng . The intel processor in Fonepad is disappointing yet the dual core in K900 is totally different story . For a phone with 2500mah battery and 5.5" FHD screen , it has very good battery life
*
Well yes, but I believe Intel predicated their Atom entirely on 32bit, especially for the smartphone. If they wanted to change they will have to push their Core i family into this space, and I don't know when they will realize or want to do it since it will be seen as internal cannibalization.

Me also, Intel never really work hard on it, as least not for now.

and I hate any Intel chip start with name "Atom". All Atom is crap to me.
*
Atom was purposely made to be crap, but it served its purpose during its time.

Intel came very late to the mobile party since they were so comfortable with the server, notebook and desktop revenues.

They are also extremely paranoid about revenue cannibalization so they have strict product segmentation and lock down.

They've changed the CEO, so perhaps things could change?

Those looking down at current intel mobile chips are gonna have their jaws dropped once merrifield is released. smile.gif

Oh yes, there is a new tablet chip by intel, the z3000. Better perf than a tegra 4 while having a lower power consumption.
*
Please provide architectural view link.

There are 2 points to note:

1. Performance per watt ie consumption
2. 32 vs 64 bits

For 1, Intel seems slowly but surely getting there, and they might even leapfrog a bit and beat ARM at some point.

For 2, I don't know if their current mentality allows them to give a non-castrated chip and claiming 64 bits.

Nice.

I was reading an Anandtech article about Silvermont from May, and here is what keeps Atoms back:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6936/intels-...us-about-mobile

.....At the risk of oversimplifying the decision here, Intel had to weigh die area, power consumption as well as the risk of making Atom too good when it made the decision to keep Silvermont’s design width the same as Bonnell. A wider front end would require a wider execution engine, and Intel believed it didn’t need to go that far (yet) in order to deliver really good performance.

If you want bigger screen, more features, 4K video record - Get Note 3.

If you want 20.7MP - get Z1. (Sorry I can't think much better from Sony Z1 anymore,  design - Z1 is normal, not as nice look as Z or Z Ultra. Screen wise, Sony is back to old type panel, no longer outstanding.)
*
Actually, I now wonder of the utility of cameras in smartphones. N8, PV808, Lumia etc etc and now Z1.... I had the N8, got it because of the camera, and in fact I got all my Nokias BECAUSE of the camera. However, at this stage, everyone has got a pretty decent camera, even the China phones have decent cameras.

When you snap something with your phone, it's never going to beat a DSLR or even a prosumer type point and shoot.

So I wonder, for those who love staring at their own pics on a small screen, does it really matter at all???

All pics of digital cameras on phones that I've seen have some level of noise, and even the best phone cams can have noise. So selling a phone now due to the camera may not be an easy proposition. See every ad that extols the phone's camera shows the model viewing the result on the phone, even editing and uploading from the phone. And when you upload to FB or whatever, the resolution gets downgraded....

Just something to think about.

A smartphone + QX10 may be a far better proposition. If budget permits and the reviews are good I should be getting one too.

Review show QX10 image quality is fair, just having a longer zoom compare to smartphone

Better get QX100 if you demand for better image quality.

I don't stare at the pixels on my pics tongue.gif

I prefer long zoom to capture things I want to see brows.gif but I don't aim for award winning quality.

I have no DSLR since I find them to be unwieldy and I rarely view my pics more than once or twice. I managed to capture the transit of Venus with my 10x point and shoot, with digital zoom out to 40x and a hastily folded ad-hoc filter, and I haven't looked at the pic since laugh.gif
