QUOTE(Robyn @ Sep 30 2013, 11:22 PM) I'm totally understand the breaking-in for bearing, breaks and etc. But in my case it was too over, i really wish you were riding with me yesterday on the Fraser hill trip. We have around 10 people in the group with Dahon, KHS, Tern, Raleigh, Kalaq and "ayam" brand folding bike. Everyone also surprise on your so call "break-in" sound so loud and obvious non-stop all the way from KKB to Fraser Hill (40KM). The situation is just like riding my grand grand grand grand parents bike !!! Everyone there did past through their so call break in period for but not like what i have so terrible !! Unless you tell me this is Tern's standard Dude, Besides that, the 2 times chain drop really almost kill me. Can you imagine how dangerous it is ?? The chain also need break-in period ? For expectation wise, i wouldn't expect P9 can give me superb performance, if i really concern in spec then 2.8k i can get alot of choices. To be honest, what is expect is a good frame with good folding mechanism, that's why i willing to downgrade from Java 16 speed to 9 speed and PAY more, because i want something more solid and safer frame and folding mechanism in a long run, but did i get that ?? Perhaps, yes but with chain drop killing experience and fantastic so call break-in sound Sorry to hear about your close-calls and that your upgrade to a better bike had turned out to be a nightmare.. Seems that you have tried very hard to remedy the issues and yet, nothing was resolved. I suggest that you take the bike back to Johnny Ng to have it looked at and since its under warranty, you have every right to claim for manufacturer's defect. Seeing that you didn't do anything to modify the bike, I am sure that you have a strong case. Let me know if I can help... Sam |

QUOTE(H2D @ Sep 30 2013, 11:46 PM) so if u read from the forum... i called Roda, they told me if your bike is not purchase from them. They will not do it for you or claim warranty for parts. You need to send back to shop and get the shop claim from lerun..... owners have a few solutions that works... one of it is to slightly bash the chaingard... ask rodalink to do it.. .. i really surrender This post has been edited by Robyn: Oct 1 2013, 12:01 AM |

Does anyone have any comments on Montague bikes? They look interesting with the full sized frames. Do you think they're worth it compared to a similarly priced "regular" non-folding bike?

How come Tern never bother on this ? quoted from one of the link 1.Physis handlepost creaking: I tried with different kind of grease and adjusting the bolt, but after a few km it starts creaking again; 2.Chain drop: the chain drops randomly when shifting from a bigger gear to a smaller one; it's less frequent after adjusting the indexing of the rear deraillerur, but it happens again; 3.Sliding seatpost: even if I tighten the clamp at a point I am barely able to open and close it, the seatpost slides down (after 20-30mins it can slide from 10.5 to 11.5). |

QUOTE(etigge @ Sep 30 2013, 09:59 PM) I had a good look at the Tern's handle post design and it is different from Dahons. I don't know why but it seems the Dahon's design are more solid. The Tern's ( for Link's P9 that is) the fork is mounted together with the handlepost via the star nut. It's the similar way on how mountain bikes fork are attached to the stem which holds the handlebar. The mountain bike's steerer tube is long and it protudes out the headset embedded in the head tube of the bike and clasp by the stem. In this case the stem is horizontally mounted or the most at a 30 degree angle. As for the Tern's case, the same way the steerer tube protudes out and clasped by the handle post and held in place with the nut and star nut embedded into the steerer tube. Problem here is, unlike the mountain bike stem which is horizontal and short, the folding bikes is at vertical and almost 18 inches long. When you ride, the stress that your handling againts the bar is tremendous. The long handle post acts like a lever and the stress point is where the clasp and star nut is which is acting like a fulcrum. It must be really strong here to withstand the stress. Sir Etigge, it was my pressure to serve you "nasi kandar" Here's the fault that was found! The star nut that was hammered in or forced in and there was a little free play there. Although it looks tight but it actually isn't until you put force into it. When you tighten it too much, the headset bearing is squashed tight and it is too stiff to turn. Release it a bit, it becomes loose and hence the creaking sound when stressed! I had 'robyn' ride to a bike shop here nearby to buy another star nut and this was also forced into the steerer tube and a longer Allen bolt is used to holds both the star nut. It was tightened until the desired tightness, how free you want the handlebar to turn. Then there's 2 Allen bolts which clasped the steerer tube that protudes out. This also must be tighten in tandem. A quarter turn top and another quarter turn down and so on until it is tighten evenly. This will tighten the clasp evenly because if one is tighten very tight, the lower or upper part will not be able to clasp evenly, making it holding on one bolt only. The ride is totally different after putting in double star nuts. It's not much of a design flaw and they are simple faults but one must also understand the customer's feelings. I mean you paid 2 over 'K' for something and you don't feel satisfied and then get thrown around on who's responsible for warranty! Finally as I said before, if you depend on LeRun for warranty, better buy from China direct! I had a good experience and also learn something new and I thanked 'robyn' for it. Also got a good 'nasi kandar' too. I deeply appreciated for all the efforts and hard works from you to help in "troubleshooting" and fine tuning my P9. Really respect ur technical experience in folding bike and your passion in reviving the bike. Guyz, i would recommend you to reach out Etigge if you encounter any biking issues or need technical advices. Perhaps, you can send ur bike to his "workshop" but be ready ur nasi kandar or some teh tarik money |
