Actually I'm also refering to the LTE capability of the Nexus 5 only. If not the rest of the Nexus 5 function works the same. So if your area have no LTE, so picking US/JP set works well with 3G.

meaning the US/Japan set HSDPA+ will also works well right?

u guys mentioned got lag with 1080p videos on nexus4?
why my nexus4 play quite smooth? do u guys enable the hardware encoding?

fyi im using mx player + codec armv7 neon

Anime uses something a bit different. Most likely the player had to resort to s/w decoding, hence the lag.

Perhaps the user can try with a standard 1080p sample clip, like from the big buck bunny.

the verge review is out

summary:
inconsistent battery
inconsistent + slow camera
chrome page buffereing issues
8/10 score

i have to disagree with their battery test, where they loop a video on full brightness till the phone dies. Different phones have different maximum brightness, it is no use comparing battery lifes between phones if u're comparing them at different brightness. I find the battery test where the set the phones to the same brightness to conduct the test more representative of their battery lives.

also, in the verge video review where they showed off the chrome stuttering issue, that is the first time the page gets loaded, and the reviewer scrolls past the bottom, and the screen becomes blank for a while before showing anything. What I think happens is: The browser have yet to load those parts of the page and is downloading data from the internet. I think if you want to test for scroll stutter, you will have to load everything beforehand and then scroll through them to check for stutters instead of checking on the first load where the page is still loading.

all in all, one of the first full review by a reknown site
albeit one that I thnk could have been better with the choice of words and methods

I found some interesting comments during I search in Google.

QUOTE
Reading on XDA forums that there will be two Nexus 5 released: D821 for Asia/Europe and D820 for North America. Looks like only the D821 will be compatible with Japanese LTE networks (unless Softbank's band 41 has wide coverage, which is included on the D820).

This is bad news for anyone wanting to buy a Nexus 5 in America and bring it to Japan...

D820: LTE bands 2/4/5/17/25/26/41
D821: LTE B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20

QUOTE
If I go to the Google Play store with a Japanese IP address (at home) it tells me this:

https://play.google.com/store/devices/detai...us_5_black_32gb
ネットワーク
2G/3G/4G LTE
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
WCDMA: 対応バンド: 1/2/4/5/6/8
LTE: 対応バンド: 1/3/5/7/8/20

If I refresh with an American IP address (work VPN) it tells me that:

https://play.google.com/store/devices/detai...us_5_black_32gb
Network
2G/3G/4G LTE
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19
LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41

Supposedly these are the LTE bands used by Japanese carriers:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
au (KDDI)- 1, 11, 18, 28
SoftBank- 1, 8, 9, 11, 28, 41, 42
NTT (DoCoMo)- 1, 3 (Limited areas), 19, 21, 28

Looks like the Japanese version has support for bands 3 (docomo?) and 8 (softbank?) that the US one doesn't. But the US one has band 19 (docomo?) and 41 (softbank?). I wonder if either one would work fine here with LTE networks then.

The Japanese version is also more expensive.

nice find NightFelix

here's another write-up on the LTE bands: http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/170166-...ing-lte-support

D820 works for North America (US and Canada) and most Japan's LTE bands.

however, the question (i guess already answered from NightFelix's tests above) is which model is being shipped if ordered thru Google Play Store Japan? seems the answer is D821 model.

Mystery Solved.

Some guys over here in this forum HardwareZone SG, they managed ask Google Japan and even ordered the Nexus 5 from Google Japan PlayStore. And they confirm works in Singapore LTE.

So means that if work in Singapore LTE means also works in Malaysia LTE.
