i hv been using unifi since 2011, used hypptv for a few days n then packed it away.
3 yrs later, I just put it back to see if it works still. yes, it does!

my comments after playing with it again...

.. with asus rt n12hp router, it works good, transparent like using old dlink router
.. auto update or upgrade, back to live after a minute or so
.. very few free channels, now mostly under paid packages
.. noticed astro supersports channels r available, paid
.. tv says it is 1080i, so it's 720p equivalent but looks more like 480p
.. very stable streaming, better than xbmc or cloudtv on other android
.. settings... 4:3 or 16:9, same, original 4:3 tv aspect ratio stretched, can't adjust
.. the remote control... rubber at the back gone sticky, melting away

when better package deals available, i might just go for it! biggrin.gif

Well, at least they let you buy ala-carte. Although admittingly, it's still a better deal buying package. RM9 for one channel is a bit ridiculous, but still reasonable if all you want is one or two channels. For me tho, I took the platinum pack for RM30. Most of the important channels like BBCE, WarnerTV, SyFy HD and the kiddie channels already there.
Yeah, it is. Also notice that they cost a bomb (RM40/month). I suspect the deal between Assteruk and Unifi was reluctantly done and this is what soured TM when it came to the WC deals- the price demanded by assteruk is probably insanely high.
Try a HD channel or On-demand movie? On the other hand, they're probably just following broadcast standard since highest res available through broadcast is 1080i. Because I can see a difference on my 19" Sharp 1080i TV if I view a HD channel compared to a SD channel.

thanks for prices info.

about 1080i/720p, i checked the hd preview channels. astro beyond also 1080i but is surely better. compared to android hd channels, i say the hypptv ones are a touch inferior. maybe it's the old hyyptv box i hv, new one is better, i hope.

i actually feel "punished", quite sore about it. because i pay rm199 for vip10 with no mega or platinum or ruby package. now, vip5 can upgrade to vip10 for rm179 or rm199 plus some free package. only way to get same deal is to terminate, reapply and upgrade which is a pain.

it's same like credit cards - they spend more on new members, more freebies but take loyal customers for granted.

will call them one day and see if anything can be done.

just to update, some good news...

for 3 yrs, i paid rm199 for vip10 pm but got nothing else other than the foc channels on hypptv box.

after a month and 5 calls/reports, today... they finally granted me foc the megapack with hypptv everywhere. took them a while to understand a customer like me is annoyed when others get same vip10 with goodies foc paying only rm169 or rm179.

just tested it... hypptv box gives better video than hypptv everywhere, understandably; hypptv everywhere has many less channels incl hd ones. hypptv everywhere on androidtv is very similar to astro-on-the-go in terms of video quality and navigation - meant for handphones and tablets, ok.

Hmmm, strange. I have the old box, and consensus is that the PQ is better than assteruk beyond. On the other hand, many of HyppTV's HD channels have the bad habit of just showing upscaled SD shows (ie RTL CBS * HD and SyFy HD are regular offenders) because many shows in their library were made before there was HD standard. I noticed that Walker Texas Ranger PQ on RTL CBS is no different than SD, because the show is SD upscaled (made in the 80s). Try a confirmed HD channel like [V]HD?

after a bit more viewing on the megapack i now have, tweaking the tv, and new router, i will now say the video quality of some of the hd channels are fine. about the same as astro beyond, 1080i.

and yes, some are not really hd at source, so can't expect it to be.

btw, is there a need to change/upgrade firmware for an old box from 2011? seems all is good still...

Usually firmware upgrades for the old boxes are delivered when the box boots up. So if you have connected your box lately, the firmware would've already updated the last time it started up.

TBH tho I don't think I've seen the upgrade screen for almost a year. I suspect that they've given up on the old box now that they have a new Android-based one.
*
thanks, that's reassuring enough! biggrin.gif

it's working very well, no problem. only thing i now notice it stays a lot warmer than my other devices on standby mode. probably old devices have higher standby power....?

ram, just wanna check with u...

with the old box/remote, is there a special way to change the aspect ratio when viewing some channels? tv channels are fine but some of the movie channels are stretched way too much almost like 3:1 rather than 16:9.

i tried the setup 4:3 and 16:9 options, no difference.

after a few days, i quite like some of the channels on megapack, will continue to watch.

very good to have hypptv+xbmc+other android apps. surely no need asste... biggrin.gif

Probably an compression fail. Which channels are these happening on? Should report it to HyppTV. Maybe request for a method to override display aspect ratio as well (I don't mind picture stretching to full screen - in fact, I prefer it to LCD persistence forming lines on my TV), but some people apparently do).

I looked into the setup aspect ratio settings. I think that only affects the menu UI, the show will always stretch to meet screen aspect ratio.
Not surprised. What you get when you vote for conservative gomen like BN >.>
*
the ruby channels - scm, baogu, red... even newer movies. ruby tv channels are fine, correct aspect ratios.

looks to me all the ruby movies are original 16:9 stretched to about 3:1 on my tv, large black bars on top and bottom.

I am planning to buy a Samsung monitor..is it possible to connect to hypptv stb via hdmi?if so how to get the sound since it does not have speaker
*
monitor plus multimedia (for audio) will cost about the same as small tv.
you do that only if you want the monitor to serve as something else too, like for a pc or gaming.

Does anyone here notice that BBC Knowledge it states HD but is actually SD? and the 2 CBS channels used to be in good HD quality, recently they downscale the HD into SD. Is this something that we can report to TM?
*
i think a few more "hd" channels are not hd, just sd. universal, travel, lux, fashion are suspect, look like sd to me.
warner, syfy, iconcerts are hd.

QUOTE(sky3742 @ Sep 2 2014, 05:00 PM)
since star chinese movies channel is now on hypptv, but want to know that is it possible to use SCM play app in Malaysia?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...droid.scm&hl=en
*
this is interesting...
it says, "It's free for subscribers of SCM - available in selected regions where SCM is available.".
which means this app can be standalone, can be used on tablets and phones but carries a subscription fee...?

on hypptv stb, scm is there.

on hypptv everywhere, scm is not there.
red, baogu of same ruby pack are not there too.
tvb8, now mango, seti are there.

looks to me hypptv's not licensed to give foc on everywhere even for subscribers bcos scm wants to sell it to all mobile users. just like astro sold worldcup live matches at rm6 per match to non-subscriber mobile users via astro-on-the-go.

understandably, it is evident that the bigger target for some entertainment biz people is in mobile device users, not the big 4k uhd tv in the house.

i personally have yet to accept the idea of watching a movie/tv show on a mobile phone or ipad! tongue.gif

Afaik the old box is not rootable, it uses a proprietary OS.

You can root the new one however. And I think TM will change the box if you say it has problems.
*
for new box, can u root to get:
.. usb playback - most file types? can handle dts/dd?
.. can install xbmc? other apps?
tq.

ya, that will be a killer!

but as ram said, some have claimed they successfully rooted the next box for xbmc and even usb playback...?
i did not follow these threads as i hv no need, just curious.
still, if it is an android, it shud b able to do some of that.
mayb just stereo audio with generic player like vlc, and not dts as that requires license...

everything is getting expensive, we all try hard to make our money work harder! biggrin.gif

Just made a little comment in their facebook about HD for RTL, they said it is in HD, must be they don't know between HD and SD in comparison

i just noticed rtl cbs channels r listed as "more" on their website.

so, is it becos they r trial channels, they been mucking around hd n sd?

Highly doubtful if these channels are in trial for so long. Maybe it's because there is not enough subscribers taking that channel?
*
i see...

after a couple of weeks of megapack, all i can say is it is reasonable overall. more so for me as they refused to grant me lower pirce for vip10 after 3 yrs like they do to others, but gave the megapack instead. so it's "foc" so to speak.

i quite like the setup in terms if using 99 and 100, easy to navigate, very stable. more stable and more reliable than xbmc or cloudtv. i like iconcerts and natgeo people hd. i also notice there are some good tv series - house of cards, fringe, under the dome - but i hv watched most of them already. lastly, i like to be able to watch some old chinese/japanese/korean movies in rubypack, no need to hunt them down elsewhere. just turn it on, let it play... thumbup.gif

wait, after you subscribe for more than 3 years, they gave you a free upgrade?
*
no... long story, told here before.

i started with vip10 rm199 3 yrs ago. no mega, sports, ruby or platinum pack.
2 yrs contract over, i cud hv chosen to go to maxis, but i stayed.
but they offered me nothing new.
1 yr later, i found out they hv been charging rm169/179 for vip10 for upgraders from vip5.
i m not sure but i think in some cases, vip10 rm179 comes with mega or sports pack.
question is why punish loyal customers?
after 5 lengthy calls and reports and 2 months, they finally granted me megapack, same rm199 for vip10.
becos that is what they offer anyone right now.

moral of the story: never start higher than lowest.
start with lowest vip5, then wait for goodies to come when upgrading.
all that i think is becos they have huge budgets for promoting new users and upgraders.
zero budget to keep loyal customers.

not unlike bank credit cards - huge budgets to get new cardholders, good cash rebates but zip for loyal cardholders.
so, everyone keep changing cards very year, banks busy, full employment, all happy.

and same with banks fd - new funds, higher interest. existing funds, lower interest.
so, everyone keeps moving their money from bank to bank, merry-go-round, jam the roads, pay tolls n parking, all happy.

i wonder if this kind of biz practice is global or only here...?

I think there is nothing to do with my TV. As I go back to main screen where I can select HyppTV, Media File, ....., my TV will switch back to 1080p/60
*
oh, there may be something to do with the tv.
lcd/led tv's 4-5 yrs old may have this problem.

i hv experienced this with another device. cannot set to1080p/60hz with one tv but can with another.
so, set it with one tv, then change tv, the setting stays on the device, problem solved.

Yea, i did lodge a call to TM and request to change a difference decoder at the end, the result still the same. But if decoder connect direct to TV, it doesnt have any issue. can get 1080p/60

Before that i connect my STB to my yahama AV, then use it's hdmi out to my TV hdmi ARC enabled port. i can get 1080p in main screen, but after i select hypptv my tv blackout a shot while and i can see it is downscale to 480i
*
well... u shud hv said it works ok with direct connection to tv earlier... becos most people do that!

u connect stb hdmi to avr, then avr hdmi output to tv hdmi arc? this may be the problem.
why do u not connect avr hdmi output to one of the regular hdmi inputs of tv? all used, no more?

At the moment all my devices (STB, Desktop, XiaoMi MiBox) are connected to my AV Receiver and another "HDMI Out" from my AV Receiver to my TV HDMI with ARC. Such as connection I no need optical cable from my TV back to my AVR.

With your suggestion, from my AVR HDMI Out to regular HDMI port to TV, then use optical cable from TV back to AVR,
This will solve the issue?
*
i dun understand yr setup... can't follow what u mean by the red part.

r u new with avr's? all devices can be connected via hdmi (depending how many input in yr avr, can be 3, 4, 5, 6...) to avr.
from avr, the output goes to one of the hdmi input of tv. that's all.
this way, the avr is the center. u select which device input at avr when playing, that video output goes to tv, no need to change channel on tv.
audio will come from avr->speakers only, no audio from tv.
there is no need to to use arc or optical cable at all.
if u want audio on tv too, u need to connect differently.

to be clear and not confuse anyone further, pls let us know:
- yr avr - is it new with hdmi connections to STB, Desktop, XiaoMi MiBox?
- yr avr connected how many speakers?
- what do mean by "HDMI Out from my AV Receiver to my TV HDMI with ARC"?
- why do u think it is necessary to connect avr by hdmi to tv and again tv back to avr by arc?

sorry... answers from readers here can only come if yr info is clear n complete...

Hi All, thinking of getting the mega sports package. Anyone here using it weekly? How is it? Does it have alot of "problems/interruptions/buffering" etc?

And... does it show all the games that Astro shows? Actually i just wanna watch all the Man Utd games =D
*
there is megapack (platinum+ruby), there is sports pack. want both, pay for both.
for my unifi vip10, megapack is very smooth, haven't noticed and buffering or interruptions.
other websites can be slow or dead but hypptv goes on!

i dun hv sports pack but i think it incl astro supersports - how good are they, can check if the channels are same as astro.

sorry for the confusion. Let me explain further:
TV: Panasonic TH-L42E6k
AVR: Yamaha RX-V475 and it has 5 HDMI input which include 1 HDMI MHL,
one HDMI output.
- my AVR initially used to connect to my desktop only, Recently add in STB and XiaoMi MiBox
- only 2 floor stand speaker is connected.
- 3 of my devices connected to HDMI input of my AVR. From AVR, HDMI Out to my HDMI input of my TV

yr connections are fine, normal, the only thing that threw me off was u mentioned ARC. there is no need for ARC in yr setup.
ARC is used when devices are connected direct to tv, then the tv audio is looped back to avr to get home theater audio.

u found no problem with old stb but problem with new stb - this is impt info.
perhaps those who are using new stb->avr->tv can share their experience.
i can't comment further as i m using old stb...

i hv seen astro n hypptv with decoders, aotg and hypptv everywhere on both androidbox n ipad.

astro satellite decoder - 4.5/5
hypptv iptv decoder - 4/5
atog on androidbox 3/5
hypptv everywhere on android 3/5
aotg on ipad 2.5/5
hypptv everywhere on ipad 2.5/5

the mobile ones are surely not so good. ok for small screens but u will avoid using mobile apps on tv if u can watch with decoders.
