yeah, true  sad.gif not really a HD, I don't think what we get is HD despite the HD icon on the screen.
*
the supposedly hd channels are... hd and not! biggrin.gif some look better than others. warner, iconcerts, syfy, luxtv, fashion are among the best but appear 480p or 720i to my eyes, alto they should be 720p or 1080i as claimed. anyway, 720 is classified as hd, so...

QUOTE(stormer @ Sep 28 2014, 01:10 PM)
True!!!...My wife's and kid's kept complaning about the blurry "HD"...they ask me is it HD ?...why blah...blah...blahhh. I just simply turn off the STB and switch to Astro Byond...Sigh!!!!

ps- TM should revise their T&C (breach policies imo)...i for one subscribe the streamyx 8 MB package bcoz tempting the hyyptv got HD channel and wanted to terminate my astro...but now it almost different story... sigh!!!!
*
i do not know if unifi give better or worse video than streamyx for the same channels. but note than only some channels are "hd" the rest are sd or worse, imo. some are hardly watchable!

QUOTE(fkinmeng @ Sep 29 2014, 01:53 PM)
how i wish can easily modify the android stb into being to install apk. sleep.gif
*

they will resist this due to cost and control but the day will come when the stb is just another android where u can put yr own apps. but what i think is chances are by the time that happens, the stb will probably not have enough memory to cater to more than just a few simple apps. becos i find even now, there r some good new apps but are relatively big size. plus, they require >1gb flash to buffer the bettter videos when the older ones require just 100-200mb. for this reason, u might be better off just buying yr own android if that's yr cup of tea. lastest ones with 8 or 16gb memory cost rm400-500.

...

a couple things to share:

.. hypptv everywhere app on tablets has improved - a side bar to switch channels
.. all subscribed channels now on it, except scm, scm legend and screen red. talking of scm, yesterday, i caught a good movie on scm 228 - heroes amidst turmoil. i was pleasantly surprised as this is a new show, 2013. kungfu film from hk, canto. if u like the genre, catch it sometime. not found anywhere yet!

They already made it clear that Streamyx users will be getting HD channels downgraded to ED (widescreen SD) instead. Mainly because they don't want to upgrade their copper line architecture to support better DSL speeds for whatever reason, but going HD on a 8Mbps line will kill the line due to their HD compression profile (they allocated 20mbps for HD on UniFi). Our ADSL is still stuck at version 1 with best effort speed of 12Mbps. Other countries already roll out ADSL2+ (best effort speed of 24mbps) as a stopgap- meaning they can give the Hypp box the required 20mbps and still have 4mbps for internet. But no, they decide to let their ADSL architecture stagnate in favor of FTTH and FTTP.

That said, they're also wrong to roll out UniFi so slowly. Thailand uses an identical architecture to UniFi (I've seen their GPONT while on holiday in Songkla, it's exactly the same as UniFi's) and whole country already covered within months of the kings decree. TM coverage in East Coast is still spotty as heck and we can forget about East Malaysia where currently only the oil production provinces are covered...
*
thanks for info.

which means unifi users are already getting better "hd" channels than streamyx...

That I can attest. Because I see none of the degradations reported by the Streamyx users.

It's a shame that they're not planning to upgrade their copper infra to support the speeds. Could've just done so as a stopgap measure or give people a choice (ie expensive but stable UniFi, or cheaper but not very stable Streamyx).
*
nothing good and move fast here, as we all know.
and if u read the crap people r reporting with other isp's, unifi n streamyx aren't that bad!

i personally am satisfied with what I get from vip10.
for rm199, i get www, torrents, phone, hypptv, android tv, wifi for iPads, visitors.
save a fair bit with no astro, no paid iptv.

hey, wanna ask if anyone experiencing the same problem, using VIP10 right now before this was VIP5 the Hypptv is unwatchable it lags alot, i called the svc they said is due to the internet speed, but its been like that since last year when i was on VIP5...
*
u mean u hv lag on hypptv with vip10 now?
that shudnt be, mine all smooth, everyday, everytime.
speed problem? that's their job to fix it!
the usual culprit is either the modem or the router, so do check that..

yes the video lags stutters on hypptv but the internet speed on the comp is at full speed.

that being the case, the modem is fine.
then, either port lan4 of modem for hypptv is faulty or the stb is faulty.
check the cables n connections too - they can be the source of problems.

i would call them to come test both with spare units to confirm the problem.
you duwan to pay full to get a half cooked product!

check the lan cables, try changing cables.
the unifi guy used a new cable for modem-router when he changed my modem recently.
he said its a better cable, old one no good.

if all tried, still same, better call, complain p, get them to troubleshoot again.

hdmi cable can be a problem too. not that hypptv requires the best cable.
but testing the hypptv cable on another player-same tv wil confirm it is good or not.

IPTV box i receive the Huawei EC 2108E. The modem seem to be working fine, the orange one. I have tried changing HDMI cables and still the same. Will try getting a new Lan cable this weekend to test.

How much to get a brand new STB?
*
i read back yr previous posts...

so, u were on vip5, upgraded to vip10 but using same equipment, no change right?
the hypptv stb did not work right from day1 with vip5, same now?

the stb u hv is the old type, but it works - i hv the same.
orange modem... if old equipment, orange is the color of the router.
the modem is white for old, silver for new replacement.
are the connections correct? shud be:
.. incoming fiber->modem
.. modem ->router; modem->phone
.. router port4->hypptv stb
.. router ports 1, 2, 3 ->ethernet

if connections all good and firm, the problem is coming from:
1. modem-router network cable no good or
2. port4 of router malfunction
3. router->tv hdmi cable faulty
4. stb kaput

check n trouble shoot as much as u can. if no success, hv to call unfi and get them to diagnose n fix it.
modem replacement is foc. router and stb replacement are not. for router, better buy yr own. stb, no idea.

n... be patient when u call... sometimes it takes 10 calls in 2 days to get through!
n the calls are not free, chargeable - check yr unifi bill later...

When i was on VIP5 the first year was ok, i think this issue started last year.
i guess the modem you mean is the BTU? mine is similar to this
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

*
yes, that is the modem or btu.
how old is it?
mine was the same, lasted 3 yrs.
then, it started to act weird... phone could call out but can't receive, sometimes dead.
lights blinking goes beserk at times, but could use still.
i did not suspect the problem until it died one day, no light at all.
reported to unifi, r placed foc with new silver one, new network cable, all ok.
unifi guy said 3 yrs is extraordinary, most last 2 only.
if u dun hv similar symptoms, then it shud be still working fine.

guyz, i just changed my stock router to TP-Link WR841HP.

i have problems with the hypptv. i already set the VLAN to 600. it works, but sometimes certain channels are not available (it shows no signal). and then somehow it became ok again.

i was wondering is it the router fault? did i misconfigured the settings? this never happen before, only after i changed to this router.  icon_question.gif
*
do u know if the router is compatible with both unifi and hypptv?
there are routers that are compatible with both broadband and iptv, some not compatible with iptv.
e.g. most asus routers are compatible with unifi and hypptv 100%, just plug n play. but they are only compatible with maxis broadband, not compatible with astro iptv.
i searched for you, came up with this only - more of a mystery, no answer...

Hi all,
I just subscribe unifi with VIP5 pack. Internet speed is ok, but as for my Hypptv the moment i change the channel, it always pop up a message written request time out , error code901004 then the tv shown back to menu page without the tv program. i have to switch on and off the STB again then i can continue watching the same channel. after a while if i change channel the error pop up again.

TM technician came a few time and re configuration the setting again and even change the STB but the problem still persists.
Anyone can help out ?

Thank you in advance.
*
if technician came a few times, can't solve it, unlikely anyone here will know. is everything else working ok - ethernet, wifi?

i play some media files (mkv) with hypptv and there is picture but no audio? is it becoz it does not support dts audio? tried some avi files and there is audio coming out.

it cant play rmvb file too
*
dts is not free, need license, hypptv probably does not pay dts license. makes sense as hypp iptv shows are never dts.

rmvb is a simple format popular with asian tv videos only.

to play all formats, just buy a rm200-400 android player made in china - guarantee play all, no headaches. tongue.gif

I had exactly same issue with you as I'm using RX-V475. The only way to rid of the picture downsize to 480p, you have to bypass your AV Receiver. Connect your HDMI cable from ur STB direct to TV HDMI.
*
my tv with hdmi direct from stb shows 1080i, not 1080p. astro beyond same, 1080i.
think it is about it being a broadcast, interlace, not progressive.
thru avr, I think interlace will be downgraded. but why 480p and not 720p? hmm.gif

Jumbo packs the new highlight at Rm60 per month... but i think it's just a combination of Platinum (rm30) + Sports (Rm30) + CinemaWorld (the only extra channel)...
And FREE preview of RTL CBS Entertainment & RTL CBS EXtreme until 22 feb 2015  rclxms.gif

I could not find the bit about what if I now have mega incl in unifi. Mega is platinum + ruby, worth rm50. It has both rtl cbs.

yr upgrade case should be vip5->vip10, right? it shud be treated same as those original vip10 with mega.

so... rm10... i want! biggrin.gif

becos:

.. i hv little use for ruby as they are either sd, old stuff or wrong aspect ratio (shame)
.. my fav ones in hd incl travel and natgeo people in there
.. good to have some sports channels incl supersports 1+2 hd (i get only sd on android/kodi)

i will call them later to confirm, see if rm10 will do. anyone who has done it, pls yell! biggrin.gif

Okay. research completed.

JUMBO TV pack is only applicable to 10MB and 20MB Unifi subscribers (old and new)

Internet only package:

5MB - RM149/Month
10MB - RM199/Month
20MB - RM249/Month

With JUMBO HypTV Pack:

10MB - RM209/Month
20MB - RM259/Month

The interesting part:

Many users have accepted the FREE Mega Pack (everything except Cinema World and Sport channels)) if you upgrade from 5MB at RM149 to 10MB at RM199. These people (me included) needs to just top up another RM10 to enjoy all channels available on HypTV.

The million dollar question is whether or not we are eligible for this upgrade. Looking at the calculation below, I bet the answer is YES.

RM10 doesn't sound much right? As of September of 2014 (four months ago), there were 700,000 Unifi subscribers. think about the possibilities. If they are able to get 1/2 of the 700K to upgrade, its additional RM3.5mil and a freaking RM42mil a year.

Sounds like a YES to me. smile.gif

GO TM GO!!!!

Its fun to be at Telekom Malaysia.  whistling.gif   whistling.gif
*
nice of you to do the reasearch.

many existing vip10 users w/mega are thinking the same - pay additional rm10 and go jumbo.

i just called them. answer is.... no provision for it yet! sad.gif

the officer at the phone said jumbo is very new, so it may be possible later. he agreed that is logical n makes sense but he can't do it now. he promised to check with superiors n get back to me.

the thing is unifi, astro, credit cards, banks fd's - they all behave the same - offer all goodies for new users but somehow don't care much about existing customers. which makes many people keep switching to max benefits, if it is easy enough.

for now, i wait for news. anyone get diff news, pls yell! biggrin.gif

So for the time being, those on MEGA pack, when upgrade to JUMBO will lose a few RUBY channels?
*
no...

there is no such thing (for now) as "upgrade" from mega to jumbo.

the old categories stay like that for old users. old packs not applicable for new users; new packs not applicable to old users - for now as i was told today.

with mega now, you can get jumbo by paying rm60 more, so you have mega n jumbo which will have plenty of overlap, so nobody will want it.

until they allow this "upgrade", existing mega users can only add sports and other ala carte packs.

you would think unifi would have thought thru all of that n have a logical and fair offer for both old and new users for any campaign but no...

like i said, all goodies for new users, some for vip10->20 users, but there is nothing great for vip10 with mega. not for now. hopefully things will change.

funny thing was when i spoke to them this morning, i was told i m the only fella asking for "vip10 w/mega change to jumbo +rm10". so, u guys better call and swarm them! tongue.gif
