yerp, watched that yesterday morning, but the HD is not so impressive enough compare to Nat Geo People

Hoping that BBC Entertainment is the next to go HD. You have no idea how short stick we're getting when it comes to Doctor Who.

Afaik Hypp Sensasi is all local Malay programming. Nothing of interest to me, but some people may like it.

I keep seeing E! Channel advertisement on certain channel like SYFY HD, is E! coming to Hypptv or already there?

I really missed E! News, Keeping up with The Kardashian, Fashion Police, Chelsea Lately and all the great content when i had astro
*
I think they used to have E! before the shutting down of their website-based service, but dropped it during the site repurposing as HyppTV Everywhere and let Assteruk pick it up.

No harm in putting in a request for the channel on Facebook. They may just listen since they're desperate for content just like ABN. Who knows, they may even pick up the HD version to one up assteruk sweat.gif

But on the other hand advertisements for other channels slip through, as in HyppTV doesn't bother blocking advertisements for channels they don't have. You won't believe how many times I've seen advertisements for Animal Planet on Discovery Kids.

so new unifi subs can get wireless stb?

Not sure. But wireless STB means will eat up normal Internet bandwidth, right? Since it will use Wifi which cannot be VLAN tagged.

.. very few free channels, now mostly under paid packages
*
Well, at least they let you buy ala-carte. Although admittingly, it's still a better deal buying package. RM9 for one channel is a bit ridiculous, but still reasonable if all you want is one or two channels. For me tho, I took the platinum pack for RM30. Most of the important channels like BBCE, WarnerTV, SyFy HD and the kiddie channels already there.

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Aug 13 2014, 07:43 PM)
.. noticed astro supersports channels r available, paid
*
Yeah, it is. Also notice that they cost a bomb (RM40/month). I suspect the deal between Assteruk and Unifi was reluctantly done and this is what soured TM when it came to the WC deals- the price demanded by assteruk is probably insanely high.

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Aug 13 2014, 07:43 PM)
.. tv says it is 1080i, so it's 720p equivalent but looks more like 480p
*
Try a HD channel or On-demand movie? On the other hand, they're probably just following broadcast standard since highest res available through broadcast is 1080i. Because I can see a difference on my 19" Sharp 1080i TV if I view a HD channel compared to a SD channel.

about 1080i/720p, i checked the hd preview channels. astro beyond also 1080i but is surely better. compared to android hd channels, i say the hypptv ones are a touch inferior. maybe it's the old hyyptv box i hv, new one is better, i hope.
i actually feel "punished", quite sore about it. because i pay rm199 for vip10 with no mega or platinum or ruby package. now, vip5 can upgrade to vip10 for rm179 or rm199 plus some free package. only way to get same deal is to terminate, reapply and upgrade which is a pain.

it's same like credit cards - they spend more on new members, more freebies but take loyal customers for granted.

will call them one day and see if anything can be done.
*
Hmmm, strange. I have the old box, and consensus is that the PQ is better than assteruk beyond. On the other hand, many of HyppTV's HD channels have the bad habit of just showing upscaled SD shows (ie RTL CBS * HD and SyFy HD are regular offenders) because many shows in their library were made before there was HD standard. I noticed that Walker Texas Ranger PQ on RTL CBS is no different than SD, because the show is SD upscaled (made in the 80s). Try a confirmed HD channel like [V]HD?

As for the promos, I agree. We should be grandfathered into the new packages. The marketing people are not doing their job to retain old customers well.

What if you try to downgrade to 5Mbps, wait a few days, then upgrade back to 10Mbps using the promo?

Most channels are 4:3. But iirc there are some channels in Widescreen.

do the HD channels in hypptv contain dolby digital plus or ac3 audio? or is it only stereo? iinm astro has ac3 for their HD channels hmm.gif

Not sure. I didn't connect my HyppTV decoder to a HT set. But I suspect it's only stereo especially with the newer Android-based boxes.

after a bit more viewing on the megapack i now have, tweaking the tv, and new router, i will now say the video quality of some of the hd channels are fine. about the same as astro beyond, 1080i.

and yes, some are not really hd at source, so can't expect it to be.
btw, is there a need to change/upgrade firmware for an old box from 2011? seems all is good still...
*
Usually firmware upgrades for the old boxes are delivered when the box boots up. So if you have connected your box lately, the firmware would've already updated the last time it started up.

TBH tho I don't think I've seen the upgrade screen for almost a year. I suspect that they've given up on the old box now that they have a new Android-based one.

Some posted this in FB and the free trial will be a month started from 1st September. HyppTV website does not give any hints yet about these new 8 channels.

Finally got Comedy Central. Been asking for that channel like, what, two years ago?

Not happy that they're wasting money on Assteruk inhouse channels tho.

ram, just wanna check with u...

with the old box/remote, is there a special way to change the aspect ratio when viewing some channels? tv channels are fine but some of the movie channels are stretched way too much almost like 3:1 rather than 16:9.

i tried the setup 4:3 and 16:9 options, no difference.
*
Probably an compression fail. Which channels are these happening on? Should report it to HyppTV. Maybe request for a method to override display aspect ratio as well (I don't mind picture stretching to full screen - in fact, I prefer it to LCD persistence forming lines on my TV), but some people apparently do).

I looked into the setup aspect ratio settings. I think that only affects the menu UI, the show will always stretch to meet screen aspect ratio.

Like MTV Asia on Astro, it seems like Comedy Central Asia will be delayed by 1 hour in Malaysia.

*
Not surprised. What you get when you vote for conservative gomen like BN >.>

Our CC will also have South Park blocked from transmission like on Assteruk IPTV and ABN... The only thing watchable on the channel is Colbert which is already going to end.

the ruby channels - scm, baogu, red... even newer movies. ruby tv channels are fine, correct aspect ratios.

looks to me all the ruby movies are original 16:9 stretched to about 3:1 on my tv, large black bars on top and bottom.
*
Hmmm... Not sure if these are in-house or Taiwan. If it's the latter then should file report with them, not TM.

QUOTE(leetan33 @ Sep 1 2014, 12:12 PM)
What's so sensitive about South Park?
*
You know laa.

However Comedy Central is one of those channels that is available on all three platforms (although assteruk only has it if you sign up for assteruk IPTV on Maxis Fiber). I remember reading that the CC feed on assteruk IPTV is blocking South Park. I assume TM and ABN are taking the same feed.

I am planning to buy a Samsung monitor..is it possible to connect to hypptv stb via hdmi?if so how to get the sound since it does not have speaker
*
Connect the HDMI to monitor as usual, connect the RCA audio to powered speakers or an amplifier. If you have speakers/amp that have optical in, use the optical in instead.

*
No conflict, still can produce sound. I use this all the time - HDMI to TV, composite video and audio to old Macintosh.

Btw, the better deal would be to look into a monitor with speaker integrated. Some monitors have this ability- most notably some higher end Dell and Acer monitors.

Does anyone here notice that BBC Knowledge it states HD but is actually SD? and the 2 CBS channels used to be in good HD quality, recently they downscale the HD into SD. Is this something that we can report to TM?
*
They're upscaling SD content. HD channels tend to cheat like that. They broadcast in HD, but their library is mostly SD shows. So, air upscaled content most of the time.

Even though HD has been around for almost a decade, studios only started producing HD content for TV in the last 4-5 years.

hey just want to ask, is it possible to update my super old stb box firmware so that I can play movie through the usb?

if the only way is hacking/rooting it, any reliable yet simple guides available?
*
Afaik the old box is not rootable, it uses a proprietary OS.

You can root the new one however. And I think TM will change the box if you say it has problems.

Wait, I don't think TM will replace your box for free if the warranty period is over. You can however ask your wife/brother to register a new account get all new equipment and then terminate your old account (provided the contract period is over to avoid penalty).
*
If that's the case tho, I think then TM won't hesitate to sell you the new box as well. Might as well call up and try, right?

QUOTE(100plus2 @ Sep 4 2014, 11:11 AM)

*
The newest box is said to be running Android. However it doesn't have VFD on the front and is smaller.

.. usb playback - most file types? can handle dts/dd?
.. can install xbmc? other apps?

Not sure. I'm only saying what I've heard on the forums. You may want to search past posts for more info.

New vs Old box -  The difference is not obvious in the video quality is it?
*
Idk, never seen the new box up close yet. Only thing I know is that it runs android, it can be rooted, and it's dual mode and can be used over Streamyx 4Mbps and 8Mbps lines as well aside from UniFi- old boxes only work with UniFi fiber.
