Quote from FSM Idea of the week....understanding what a fund invests in and how it achieved this “superior” historical return are also critical inputs; blindly seeking out funds with the best historical performance may not be the most prudent approach.

lower distribution possibilities:
* Fund Manager wanna retain more cash - might be good, cos maybe they wanna reserve ammo to buy new bonds
* the fund made lower realised incomes - red alert brows.gif

I didnt read it lei... lazy also la. Maybe good in a way coz reduce the "noices" that will cause my course of investing. Ultimate goal is long term and using AmDynamic as a buffer or hedge to reduce the volatility of my portfolio.

hi guys,

im a silent reader of FSM thread and i find it very informative with all on going discussions. I would like to start investing in UT. I would like to find out from sifus here is it a right time to put lump sum 20k investment this week or should i split the capital to few time period ?
Im looking into Kenaga Growth Fund, Hwang SAQF, OSK Kidsave. My idea is to split the fund 50% into KGF ,10% into HSAQF and 40% into OSK Kidsave
Suggestions on allocation into each fund is also most welcome.

You mentioned that you have read an article that it's very optimistic that DJIA could hit 20k mark soon.

Where's the source? By when the article said that it could hit 20k mark? Any reasons or grounds on that? I'm just curious to know.

A year ago, some analysts once predicted AAPL will reach $1000 in no time and gold would reach $2000/oz. by year end 2012. Now you have prediction of hitting 20k but there is also contrarian prediction that US will enter second recession and Dow would drop to 9k or lower by 2017. Which to trust? I say just follow the money and keep it with short leash.

How old are u?

Are u working? Or student? Do u have steady monthly income?
If u got no income, better to split your 20K, perhaps over 6 months or 1 year.
If u got income, u CAN lump sum in, then top up monthly.

I'd suggest 50% KidSave, 25% Hwang and 25% Kenanga.

Becos KidSave is 50% bond. So, effectively u would be 25% bond, 75% equities if u follow my suggestion.

Just make sure that u have further ammo to top up should the market go south to average down your cost. nod.gif

All 3 funds are fairly well-managed, volatility also not too bad.

Psst.. George Soros is not convinced.. he sold off most of his S&P index shares and is holding almost 7 million S&P500 puts (~1 billion USD) in his latest SEC filing...

In other words he is shorting the US market... and betting a billion dollars on it... sweat.gif So who is correct? Analyst who just 'talk' or an experienced investor putting his money on the line?

About 30+% of his portfolio leh.... that's a huge sum even for him. biggrin.gif

We see in the coming months whether his bet made him richer or poorer.. most probably he will have a cut loss if that happens.
