By when? From current level, it'll be another 33% gain!

I'm not following, David. You mean selling of PGSF or Dow hitting 20k mark?

Investments For The Brave [16 August 13]
present to investors 3 segments which have taken a beating in recent times, or that could be taking one soon.....
Coupled with the fact that mortgage rates are beginning to trend up, and with looming interest rates hikes by the Fed around 2016 (coinciding with the end of the locked-in first 2 year interest rate quantum as per most mortgage agreements), it would take an extremely brave soul to begin or continue investing in investment properties.......

week end to think about....
I suspect most of us know someone who is a bit like Bob.
every day, Bob would, without fail, open the lid of his lunchbox and let out a deep sigh. The expression on his face said it all. He would, with a heavy heart, moan to his friends about how uninteresting the content of his lunchbox was.
Then one day, one of Bob’s colleagues asked him why he didn’t ask his wife to make him something different for lunch. He looked quizzically at his friend and said: “What do you mean? My wife doesn’t make my sandwiches, I do.”

I wonder how many of us are a bit like Bob when it comes to managing our investments. We moan about the unappetising returns we are earning and yet, we rarely do anything about it. Instead, we just carry on salting away money in our savings accounts that pay us next to nothing in interest.......

You mentioned that you have read an article that it's very optimistic that DJIA could hit 20k mark soon.

Where's the source? By when the article said that it could hit 20k mark? Any reasons or grounds on that? I'm just curious to know.

I have been asking myself where are we now globally on this economy cycle (confusing with conflicting data here and there). Did some charting last week, sharing some here.

Attached Image

On this annual GDP chart, it looks like the USA has gotten itself out of the recession. BUT using the recession definition, it is 2 consecutive quarters with negative GDP. See plot below.

Attached Image

* In the annual USA GDP, it was positive in 2011 but quarterly 2011 GDP showed 2 quarters with negative GDP. So some hidden signal when one looks at the annual GDP.
* 2012 Q4 and 2013 Q1 negative GDP for the USA. 2013 Q2 positive. My lay-person's view is, too early to say the recession is behind them now.

In 2009 recession, about 43% of the countries had negative GDP. Not too bad in my view as 57% of the countries had positive GDP. rclxms.gif But not all the countries are the same, e.g. USA is about 50 times bigger than Malaysia in GDP term. So for GDP weighted comparison, 77% of the global GDP were negative in 2009. Now that is scary. hmm.gif

One surprising thing for me is China. rclxub.gif

Its last recession was 37 years ago in 1976! So time for correction there with a coming recession? Don't have quarterly GDP for China to check.

Cheerio.

Anyway I'm dumping it the next time my holdings got >3% IRR, with 1.5% management fee, it's simply not worthwhile. tongue.gif

Ya mar, let's say yield get to a REASONABLY attractive rate of 5-6%, with mgmt fee of 1.5%, the net yield we're getting is only 3-4%, furthermore REITs don't usually have much capital upside.

It's only in 2012 that the fund got lucky, bond yields were at historical low hence the chase for yields.

My IRR is now about 1%, will dump on the next REIT rally, park in CMF first. Will top up on OSK-UOB GEYF and Hwang Select Asia Opportunity slowly with the money.

another lesson that I learnt.....
a got Hwang Sel Asia infrastructure at - 6% in June, waiting for it to go back to "0" SC in June,
was thinking of switching to EI China fund but hesitated, was waiting for a small rally in HSAInf,
EI China goes up +8% in 2 mths, hwang is still -6%....
he who hesitate is lost.....well it might go the other way
