so are you saying that you don't need job security? In most MNC's you'd still be laid off if there's re-structuring no matter how much potential you have. I don't believe it's hard to be a PTD though. Every officer is selected the same way you'd be selected if you went for a private job interview. Positions available, your grades and qualifications and the interviewer. Passion bro..is needed in every job. Not just the white collared ones.

lemme guess..the same percentage of private sector employees in upper management? Allow me to execute substantive changes to your comments.
Millions will not be anywhere near it (Close to 1.4 million civil servants in malaysia and not millions as you so claim) - if they don't have the right political connections even if they have the skills to do it. (Career advancement of a civil servant is governed by The Public Service Department and NOT political connections) Tell me how great is that when only a small percentile with connections are 'anything but mediocre'. (wont even bother to comment on this since your first two views were wrong to begin with) Explain to me how this is great in your limited but skewed view. (My views are skewed towards my beliefs and experiences, as are yours) You can deny all you want, but this is a fact that millions in the public sector will retire poor.(There you go with the millions again, lol. A fresh graduate i.e PTD Officer - takes home close to RM3000.00 and will retire with a final draw of almost RM10k with the new scheme - and this is not including gratuities and other cash incentives given when reaching the retirement age) Please take note this culculation is based on the officer holding the same position all his working life which is M41. Most PTD officers retire as M54's and/or at the JUSA level. Talk about laughing all the way to the bank.
Colonialism? You views are 50 years too old. (ya think? my views based on your lack of detail and being thorough are that you're pretty young) Today is a global world without borders filled with opportunities. (anyone can google, cut and paste) The world is moving forward while Malaysians are fighting over a shrinking economical pie because some politicians are trying to cling onto power.( I don't understand why you keep bringing politics up....the civil service serves the government of the day)
The way I see it, the civil service has been stereotyped time and time again becos of a few bad apples albeit many of us working our a**es off to ensure the smooth running of the country.
Tan Sri Sidek Hassan sure said it right - "We can choose to remain the same and simply say we are the way we are, much like Lady Gaga’s song Born This Way. Or we can do the Bob Dylan, I Feel A Change Comin’ On".
actually total amount of ptd officers are quite small, around 10k. and its gettin smaller coz intakes have been reduced to bout 100 per year. Added on April 21, 2012, 1:58 pm

sometimes i feel it is unfair to say we have 1.4mil civil servants coz it includes teachers and police. this group almost accounts for 50% of the civil servants.
