Let's hope for that!
Agreed. It's relative, though. Because where I live, the PTD salary scale is considered as pretty good.
I mean, I used to earn measly pay as a junior executive; granted, I was just graduated and had no job experience whetsoever in the field, but the initial pay offered to me was RM600. I accepted it because I needed the experience, jobs were hard to come by, and finding one out of the city wasn't an option.
But yeah, if I lived in the West Coast, it'd probably be hard for me to create a big nest egg with that kind of pay. I think.
Oh, don't be disheartened. You need to know that there's a certain period of how long the job is open for applications. I applied for the job November last year (or was it January this year?), and got an exam call letter last April. Since you said you just posted your application to SPA, I'm guessing you'll only get a call letter next intake. Cheers for that!

There're certain criteria that one must fulfill to be eligible for the exam, but those criterions are very general. You may refer to the SPA portal--the info should be available online.
Hm, I can't say the questions are tough or otherwise, because each person has a different perception of what's difficult and what's not. Personally, I think the Qs were OK. It's good if you purchase one of those PTD exam packages online. At least, you'll have some gist of what the papers will be like. Tipsptd.com does offer some good exam packages.
Some words of advice: It's best if you jump on the civil service bandwagon not for the sake of monetary and travelling benefits alone. I was like that before, now I know that if I want to be a civil servant, it must and should be for the reason that I truly want to serve for the country. Like what Pierre Corneille once wrote, 'Avant que d'être à vous je suis à mon pays'. Above belonging to you, I belong to my country.
Good luck!

i like ur optimism. if u really wanna serve the country, go join the army. haha. a job is a job, no matter where. if u feel d benefits are bad, move on to the pvt sector. but dont ever console urself by sayin ur serving the nation, coz sooner or later the effects of self-consolation will wear off and ull be facing a long repetitive boring cycle in the service, and maybe without proper promotion due to large number of junior staff. and it might be too late to move out by that time. Only apply if ur weighed in the prospect of service (pros and cons) and if ur willing to accept it, den join us. just being real here
neway how cud u accept a pay package of 600? i was once offered 1.2k in an audit firm after my grad (2008). i told dem to F off politely. u shud never ever under value urself to accommodate a companies salary structure.
