i've gone thru DPA long ago.

1 panel during my interview informed me that next intake will involve lots of OBS (outbound skool). Wonder how it is like.

I've frequented this thread few times before I sat for the exam in May, and during preparation for the interview, which took place on Friday, 15/11. I was pretty hyped up and confident about answering the technicalities on Malaysia, facts about PTD, and some international issues. Imagine my surprise when all the panel asked of me was to justify my decision on becoming a PTD. One of my interviewer (recently appointed ahli suruhanjaya SPA) practically drilled/condemned me about wasting my talent/experience testing natural products on cancer on becoming a PTD. Suffice to say, I could only nod my head and accept what was being said to me, as honestly, I appreciated his advice. Plus it wasn't a Q&A session, it felt more like the panel were giving me their opinions or in the Datuk's word "my sincere advice".
Next, I could see he was provoking me with saying things like I was "anak melayu berjiwa kecil" because I was throwing my future in university/research field to be a PTD that according to him anyone can do. Any stupid person can do the job.
I refuse to correct him or answer his provocation. He could see that I didn't agree with him, but I'm not going to get angry there just because of words like that. All I said once he had stopped provoking was, other fields than science is just as difficult and any stupid person can learn to better him/herself.
Towards the end of the interview, I thank both of them for giving me advices and sharing their opinion with me.

It was such an eye opening experience as I never had gone through such gruelling interview. It was gruelling to me, because I was being tested on how well I presented/defend myself and how well I could communicate with them. I've observed that my session was pretty short, about 20 minutes, and although Datuk had complimented on how I present myself, I felt like I failed the interview. My own analysis was two. If they were looking for someone who could handle pressure well, and maintain a heated conversation/debate in a cordial manner, I might pass the interview. But if they were looking for someone who stood on their grounds and were outspoken about their beliefs, I stood no chance.

I hope my experience would be useful to other forumers.

Is it true that PTD can be placed to work in any of the ministry like MOH, MOE etc etc?

What exactly is that differ with that of an ambassador (duta) based in overseas?

he dunno..give him try ptd job 1 day sure quit halfday. i see my higher ups TP & PP every week 2-4 days go back after 8 pm, sometimes past 10. iinm, ptd post have no OT allowances right?

I think the result is out now and my DPA is scheduled next august.

Unfortunately i think I can't join although i really love to be in the profession (or the perceived profession hehe)

Why? Because i am old 35 years now, with a salary about 7k per month, with a wife and 2 kids and my commitment already way pass kadet PTD's allowances.

To be honest, my parent wants me to join but i have to think about my family and a lot of sacrifice that is expected apart from degraded quality of life that comes with a lower salary (relocation, longer commute, less time with them etc).

Too bad, but deep in my heart, i wish i can justify how to accept that up until i want to take a personal loan for my family to survive while i am in service. Crazy but that's the idea and how i love to be in PTD (or how i perceived PTD job was).

What do you guys think? It is worth it? I saw some resign PTD as well and now i think i may not able to survive as well.

I'm concerned about this now that you've mentioned it. Because I'm 27 you see. By the time I'll be in service, I'll be 29. So I did a little digging. It says in JPA's pencen website:

"Tertakluk kepada pencen maksimum tiga perlima (3/5) daripada gaji akhir (dicapai apabila berkhidmat selama 30 tahun atau 360 bulan tempoh perkhidmatan yang diambil kira)" JPA Pencen

According to my mum - a governmont pensioner, the minimum years of service is 20 years. Pencen wajib is 25 years, 30 years maximum. I don't really know what's the difference though. But even if you work say.. up to 35 years of service, the pension will only be counted up to your 30 years of service's salary. Something like that. But, just to be sure, you will need to clarify with JPA.

I wonder though, does being a Kadet means you're already in service? Or will you have to wait until you receive your official letter?
From what I heard, it didn't matter your experiences. Your salary scale will start from the bottom. Unless of course you have a Master's or PhD then your salary scale will be different. I was informed by a civil servant that even if you'd like to change your scheme e.g.: from being a lecturer to PTD, your salary will still start from the very beginning regardless of how many years you've served. Which is why, my friend who wanted to change her scheme stayed put or she'll risk losing her current salary scale.

some of them are good , i mean excellent... some of them aren't up to the standards,, almost all average.. currently taking advance diploma Public Admin with University of Malaya.

Actually, this link is quite useful. Though it's not for us, we can still view the checlist and start preparing our stuff since the letters are taking forever to arrive. Especially with CNY just around the corner.

I have a question, since we have to go for the OBS and a lot of outher outdoor outings, are we required to bring our own camping backpack? I wonder because the backpack is not included in the checklist. However, water shoes are.

I'm sorry but I don't think you're right at all, come on 2k to be utilised fully? Are you expecting govt is that numb? Pls don't fool yourself, sorry for my language.

But truthfully to expect every individual to spend "fully" a total of 28k for the total duration of the course, is, nothing but stupid. Sorry to say, but that's my take.

Be smart if you wanna be a leader, if not until when govt will improve??

I've always heard people complaining about the attitude of PTD schemes. Arrogant and snobbish. Didn't think I'd see them this early and in a forum some more. I hope to God I will not turn out to be that way.

What has happened to the world? Expressing own ideas pun salah ke? I apologise if I appear poyo and a wannabe. I was merely stating my opinions. If that is not accepted here, I will take them elsewhere. Because seriously, how can people expect to become a good leader when they can't seem to accept other people's opinions and ideas??   

T o all the bakal2 PTDs out there, these are the skills you need to have:
1) write minutes of mesyuarat - definitely. brush up on ur memorandum and official letter preparation aswell.
2) organise events - defintely.
3) pandai cakap - not really
4) Bahasa Melayu mesti power/ BI not so emphasised in gov - u can speek in either languages during meetings. but preferably malay if internal meetings.
5) pandai bersukan - not really.
6) love going outstation- be prepared for this - depends on ur posting. some dept ur 24/7 in office room only.

Guys, after this interview, what is the next stage? Is there still final interview or already get the result.

My interview is this Saturday in Putrajay. Is it compulsory to wear a blazer? I dont have one and im thinking whether it is worth to invest in one just for this interview. As i dont use blazers for work and gettin one would be a total waste. What's did most girls wear to the interview? Some infor needed. Thanks

Hi, just had my interview this afternoon

It is advisable to wear a blazer, according to one of the panel. Most of the girls in my session wore baju kurung + blazer. Hope this helps
