1) jotting short notes during calls n meetings. The note2 CAN take notes during hour long meetings using s note or handy note by scribbling just like normal paper.

Pdf signing is not used unless legally recognized.

1) true... but I never did that before... I'm very interested to get Note 3 now.

2) I've done many pdf signing with my HTC Flyer and yes, its legally recognised.

For me, I used Note 1 and Note 2 previously. The stylus and writing is good to have but not necessary to have. I just play with the handwriting initially and after that, all the way never use it. Some might need it but for me, nope.. just initial hype that's all.

The writing ability of the XZU is just gimmicky and I find it completely not practical. Taking short on the spur notes is still OK and definitely not for extensive writing
If you have used the Note 2 S Pen before you will cursed this XZU writing ability
All the advert n posted youtube videos NEVER show the real situation
First you must/only can use the Sony keyboard
Launch any note app than select PEN from keyboard. You will get a writing pad about 4 cm high
The recognition of my writing ( need to do very slowly) is horrible - accuracy is less than 20% - meaning 8/10 times it fail to recognize my writing. I get frustrated using it. Faster to use keyboard to type. I cannot do any sketching at all
I got the impression based on the demo videos that it can do free writing and possibly sketching - I was terribly wrong
It would be great if just like Note 2 , straightaway I can write and draw on any note app

And never allow any part of your palm to touch the display as the writing will not work

I not going to post that at front page 1st, currently the firmware at Xperia Z Ultra is not the latest where all get hands-on previously at press.

It did not use the latest home launcher, wallpaper and not even support X-Reality yet.

I assuming they still got improvement over it, it seems not that bad on what been seen on the hands-on for stylus part.

Lets wait until another firmware come out which in-corporate the exact X-Reality function & new home launcher, maybe Sony already work on it. Let get sometimes to Sony, wait for firmware updates, see how the situation before I ever mention it at main page.

If the stylus end-up still that gimmick, Sony really need more study and work on it.

why they wan to launch something that is not as advertised? Wow ok this is seriously fuk up. Sony at playstation have reputation of showing pre-rendered gameplay footage and CLAIMED as in game rendering since PS2 ( remember they show Toy story 2 game gameplay the graphics like movie but shit came out later. If they start to use this strategy at phone, my God.. i was just having good impression with this phone due to the size that is perfect for my usage..

Dont know why Sony is rushing the XZU into the market. Even the latest firmware not up to date at retail. They already gained the techworld attention, hype and momentum with the Z line of mobiles and tablets, stints like this just make them look like bad again.

There should be some explanation from Sony side regarding the x-reality and firmware imho.

well, because they need to come out before Note 3. Else, no one will buy Z ultra.

Most phone come out with half baked firmware. I won't be surprise if they incorporate palm rejection in the next iteration of firmware.

Speaking of which, Galaxy Mega launched firmware is awesome. Work awesome right out of box thumbup.gif

Actually I am big suprise when I seen the launcher is the old design! They not in-corporate with X-Reality first is ok, but at least give the latest design home launcher, not the old one.

I already put some notes at 1st page regarding this issue.

QUOTE
** Current release Xperia Z Ultra didn't use the latest firmware as what we seen at press yet, it still running old design Z/ZL home launcher and without X-Reality support.

** User also report stylus input is not as good as seen on press for current firmware.

** Sony Hong Kong site mention new firmware with X-Reality support will start rolling out beginning of 9/Sept/2013.

As I say above, smartphone market become very competitive and Samsung is the one to beat. Note3 is real challenger. That's why they advertised pencil writing. They hope to capture stylus phablet market from Note3.

Ya, I believe we shall seen more improvement in next firmware updates, Sony need to sort it out. smile.gif

In my opinion, it still better out something similar with press, not that far big different, the new home launcher not only design different but different way of functionality as well.

by market standard it is completed,
Sony is one of the brand that keep updating their smartphone up to latest for several line up.

I wouldn't recommend you buying Sony for the tech they offer but more of the design and features that available in their smartphone

My experience so far of course with Sony product

Xperia Z : default it become nice to hold and slim design with waterproof.
Xperia V : It was love and hate at first but kinda fit for the price it selling for compare to rival market included waterproof and battery remove-able
Xperia Acro S : Big brick(I really can't comment on this much because only a short time)
Xperia Go : Up and running on 4.1 very smooth and fast survived a 2nd floor drop use as primary

I can't said it is complete, at least they shall out with complete new design (the launcher and visual touch-up) as what they show during press.

Now they out something using old design and the well talk X-Reality is not even put in yet.

I agree with you somewhat.

Despite what uncle benny said that the pencil-input is limited to a small area in XZU now (if I read that right), perhaps in future they will make it able to input on entire screen, with palm rejection, etc.

Ya, give some times to Sony, it is obvious Sony rushing out this time. The software part probably only 80% complete.

Sony not even had time to push out to retailer set for latest firmware.

Those in press is those so call brown set, they do received test/newer firmware than retail unit.
