Anybody been to Al-Ikhsan lately ? I saw a Lotto Neo-Concept glove (the previous one Petr Cech used) going for RM89 (Al-Ikhsan Alamanda). Tested it, very impressive fastening system, U can wrap the wrist strap around twice actually. Very simple gloves. But one thing I dislike about Lotto gloves, including the G-Force I have, is they're too heavy, especially when it rains. So for rainy games, I prefer my Tiempo Pros.
Care for a gathering ?

QUOTE(mxxuang @ Aug 19 2006, 11:36 PM) Hey in futsal is it okay to rush out to catch the ball from ur opponent's foot? Coz you know la, futsal their tackle rules kinda tight so thinking whether it's legal or not. You can but most people won't unless you're confident that you're able to catch the ball without letting your opponents slip pass you.

Sorry, been pretty busy lately, will be even busier next week. Generally I'm done for the season, I'm not going training no more, just a few games here & there.
A keeper's form in my opinion is a bit of both, he's only as good as the defence in front of him. That's why U rarely find a good keeper in a poor defensive team. Some keepers can perform even better, feeling that they have to step up. The defence must provide the keeper some cover.
I think it was Buffon who said,"A good keeper always transmits sense of calm & confidence to his teammates". Ur defence must have faith in U & U must have good communication with Ur teammates.

Hia. I didn't know that there was a thread for keepers.
Been one since young days, although I realized i loved being a goalie when I was in form 1, for a very good reason too. I wasn't a good one back then, but I loved it.
Cassillas and P.Schemeichel are on my list as "idols". Of course there are others, like the dead Columbian goalie (with that big afro hair), Buffon, Toldo, even the rogue type Jose Luis Chilavert (he's funny for a keeper, really).
I think goalkeepers have to be the most versatile player. Sometimes, its a bad stigma that newbies, worst players all get dumped to being goalkeepers. But it doesn't work that way. People really have to have passion for goalkeeping.
The best moment I had as a goalkeeper was to humiliate a particular striker in a futsal match. He was so good, that he outclassed everyone in the match. And he scored 3-3 against our team. He was so overly confident that he would make me unable to block any of his shots. If I did, he'll just be substituted away. True enough for the first 3 (which went in), but after the 3rd I vowed not to let him get in, and that I didn't, and our team catched up 3-3. Kinda annoyed that he was just being a loudmouthed, but having the crowd to support, and the team who just told me "just do your job, don't complain about him being godlike or yada yada, we're counting on you!", I think that's the best feeling a goal keeper can ever get. Trust and confidence from your team mates.
I've been using low-tech low grade latex gloves from Admiral, Diadora, Umbro, and etc. Currently i'm using another low end gloves from Umbro, can't recall the name but its latex foam based. (well, i can't get access to good gloves, really)
=)
Goalkeepers are different. I take this from a book with the same title. Really, goal keeping is fun.
I'm now in UPM, but I don't play as regular as before, because i don't have a team, and I'm physically lacking match fitness. xD

Well, I dun like being overweight, for starters (but who does ?). Last Sunday I went to play for the first time since puasa, there was one goal that I could've saved if I was lighter. But since I was feeling very heavy, I couldn't dive full-stretch & could only got my fingertips to the shot. The ball hit the inside of the post & went in. I'd reckon if I was lighter, I could at least tip the ball onto the post. I'm now very heavy, can feel it when I was running. I could run 30 mins no prob, stamina is there, but I was feeling very heavy. Really itchy to play regularly again. With my daily commute, it's getting very difficult to play on weekdays, I could only play on weekends. Sometimes I would just put my gloves on once every few days. 4 pairs just hanging there....I need games !!!

(well, i can't get access to good gloves, really) =) I'm pretty anxious to try an Umbro I saw in Pertama some time ago. The ones with FPS on the thumb side (not on every finger), forgot what they called it. My second pair of gloves was Umbro Stefano, when I was playing for MRSM Jasin in 1993. QUOTE I'm now in UPM, but I don't play as regular as before, because i don't have a team, and I'm physically lacking match fitness. xD Last season I had a game against a UPM team (all Chinese & some Sabahans, or all Sabahan Chinese, forgot) in MSN Bkt Jalil pitch. The striker was very tall but stocky (unlike Peter Crouch). Pretty good team, although the captain was quite temperament type. We won anyway...

i held on to belief back few years, when my glove supplier (yes, i told you that i've got some un-usable gloves due to tear and wear) that Uhlsport makes the best gloves. I don't know, and I won't know until I lay my hands on one of them.
On a side note, at least you do have a team. I don't. I do have means of transportation (my scooter), but not knowing anyone here makes me feel so strange.
Well, maybe we could meet up? I really want to learn more about goalkeeping (I feel that i'm severely under par) due to my tendency to block / parry rather than catch.

Yeah sure we can meet up. We've tried to organize a gathering (of goalies) for quite sometime edi, but never materialized. I'm available until 8th January 2007, becoz after that I'll be going for my 6-month course & couldn't possibly go out & play.

Well, who's in charge of the gathering? Maybe we can try to list out the details slowly at a time you know.
We keepers have to take initiative too. Not just to wait the ball to come rolling to us and "dive" at it.
haha.

I used to play keeper for Sports Unlimited a couple of years ago. Them bringing in Zaidi who was at the time Malaysia's no.1 for Futsal ended my career prematurely. Being in my late 20's, I needed first team action Little did I know I got no action. I'm a little less agile and slower now unfortunately...

It's how you position your palms and cushion the ball. Don't put your arms straight out with your palms facing straight forward. I don't know how to explain it in words, but you have to position them at an angle. Why not surf the net, they may have diagrams. The safest way is to catch it near your belly so even if it does slip through your fingers, it won't go right into the goal.

Wow this thread is alive again. I thought it was dead and deleted Anyway throughout this past few months I basically destroyed all my gloves I bought earlier this year. Strikers are getting stronger this days, the make a hole in my gloves quickly Anyway I'm currently using a low end lotto gloves. Gatal gatal want to try the G-Force but kinda unneceasarry for futsal. I'm still using my Fingersave replique in cases where I'm playing with my fingers hurt. Still curious though, what's the difference between futsal GK gloves and regular GK gloves. As I've observed futsal gloves they expose the tip of your fingers.

I don't know if you can find official futsal gloves because most I've seen have had their ends snipped off. They idea is so you have better control of the ball when you throw or roll it. Given that the pitch is small, you need to be as accurate as possible. The official size parquet courts are much more friendly on gloves. I've torn 4 gloves on the turf ones which I hate because they are so small.
