QUOTE(Ryan Soo @ Sep 21 2013, 08:42 PM)
currently my house is using beyond decoder(without pvr, no record function)...
my parent house using beyond pvr decoder(means can record)..

question:
Can i buy a 500 gb external hard disk(from astro) and plug it into my parent's pvr decoder and copy all the recorded programmes and then bring that external hard drive and plug it in to my beyond decoder(without pvr) and watch it??
*
I forgot what model is the external harddrive but it is Hard coded to accept WD External HD AV 320GB only.
You also need PVR services(RM5) to record.
You cannot copy from other decoder to your own decoder to watch as the recorded shows are hard coded to the Decoder serial n Smart Card No that it is record to.
And also you can hack to have it copied to your external HD you still cannot watch because if you don't have that package, they wont allow you to watch.

i think astro should adopt the system where the system can distinguish that customer subscribe the HD or not.. what i meant is channel like AXN SD is same feed like AXN HD right? so for HD customer get only HD version and not SD version. but for different feed from SD, it remains.. i wish astro would done that.. save a lot of channel redundancy.. just my 2 cent..

still needs a lot of bandwith on the transponders as they still have to broadcast to SD and HD customers

Lyngsat has unreliable info. My profesional decoder says it. Their HD transponder is in S2, 8PSK, 3/5.

Any additional info on that? Also, you should let Lyngsat know about their (Astro) current HD in DVB-S2 one. icon_idea.gif

Assuming all HD channels on Astro had 10mbps video bitrate, i'm fine with it. tongue.gif

For mio TV, only HD chs are offered. Thus is unlike Starhub, who still stubbornly offers SD n HD versions of the same chs.

mio does this by offering only HD boxes by default. For viewerswith SD CRT TV, they just need to select SD fr the screen settings. The STB will convert the HD chs to SD by letter boxing it.

In this way, bandwidth is saved.

Just sharing.
