Design is the same, but different molding. BLM ones no longer exist in the market, which if you can identify, fai tit buy!  All FLX onwards the drums are from the S company, atleast 1/2 of them will emit the tok tok tok sound. However, have just reconfirmed all Shawies and GaGas regardless which variant, all share the same horrible flat bedded ranjiao bearings rclxms.gif

I don't purposely go open up every car's brake hub and check what type of bearing they use. So, I don't.

haiz.... small thing like this also so dangerous.... how are we to troubleshoot and be prepared for this defect?

Usually they gave notice, such as humming sound, or can hear metal grinding sound. Under extreme case like me, long duration of frequent sprint/braking + high speed cruising of mixture, the bearing overheated and just broke off. The time I heard the humming sound, I already felt the rear part of my car started shaking. The few thing I managed to do before the wheel took off is press the hazard light, release my thumb from locking steering position, grab my steering wheel ever so tightly.

Ya, the ASS company nod.gif

There's a story I always like to tell when I was a little younger. Ayam a daddy's boi, coz I always rike to folo my dad go out sales and marketing. I knew the Plotong Knight he was dribing having plobrem, already got humming sound for months. His brother pulak go tell him it's tayar noise, don't bother unsure.gif So, ma conitnue drib lor, until 1 day when we reach Rawang. If you remember the old NAGOYA place infront got a trafik light junction used to caused a lots of jam, light turning yellow and my dad slow down and stop at red. Then a wheel roll by, my dad sumore ask "Uih! Nie sape mia tayar? Bunga chantek lagi.". After that baru our car jatuh sweat.gif Rest of the story are quite predictable lar, whole clan go and chase tayar, wait tow truck until kaw kaw, kena potong by local mechanics(back then I don't have so much contact yet).

For rear wheels, the only thing you can do is spin it with your hand since we can't drive that wheel with engine power. Video shown is a BMW E46(rear wheel drive), they had to use hand to spin the front wheel.

i'm generally very sensitive to road/tire noise. more so when im using comfort tires.

so chances are, i can easily detect a failing wheel bearing and get it replaced before it breaks down completely.

You so sure... potong give you better car with cheap cheap price..... got no prawn behind the mee?

go buy lor..... I kena before already with 9k discounted Tiara..... ended up Gearbox poor quality, drive shaft poor quality...... you never kena, you can talk kok all you want lor.....

you so like SV buy lor, not my money anyway....
*
Jon, all Tiara having the same issues not only yours. If you think you paid cheap to get a lemon car, other Tiara owner thought just about the same as you, coz most the Tiara (if not all) lemoned.

Do you know before Shawie called SAVVY, they actually name it as TRM? It stands for Tiara Replacement Model. The silly Plotong, only God knows what kinda rubbish they have in their mind. Getting the best Renault engine D4F in compare with the old Zitroen AX. There are still 2010 unregistered Savvy H Line around, come with ABS and dual air bags full spec. The last I found was 28k + 5 years warranty rclxms.gif Does it mean after -18k discount, the car is a lemon? Frankly, it's just as lemon as any other Savvy purchased at full price. Bet my previous owner change bearing until fedup then decided to sell car immediately after 7 years loan repayment whistling.gif Recently I found another 2008 H-Line 2nd hen, going for 10k. Already repaired AMT twice within 5 years of loan repayment whistling.gif

Frankly, Plotong can't handle foreign engine/transmission. End of story. As for SV or not, basically its a marketing strategy. The only different between SV and Standard is only the rear boot handle they didn't cover paint, rear cabin lamp missing. Basically in compare with BLM N-Line and B-Line, they're the same with slight different in terms of accessories provided. If you in doubt, please arrange a date with me, I'll bring you go to my bestest showroom let you slow slow inspect what are the difference. If you need to see it from the inside, then I'll have to try to book Sijangkang QC inspection centre liao.

Just to give my thoughts on the bearing type.
Ball bearings (BB) vs Tapered Roller bearings (TRB).
Actually, both has it cons and pros depending on how they are used and applied.

Ball bearings has a much lower surface contact area than tapered roller bearings which hence makes them less capable of absorbing the stress and load from the rotating shafts.
*Imagine a sphere and a cylinder on a flat surface, and you will notice the contact surface area difference.
As you can see in david's pic, TRB has a much wider and more surface contact area which makes them ideal for better stress and load transfer.

Ayam work for a German pump manufacturer company and our pumps uses such TRB as compared to our competitors which sticks to the BB which is of much lower manufacture price.
In fact, it is our HQ that insists they want to stick to this bearing design so that we have an upper hand to our competitors.
See below.

Like I said, both BB and TRB has its own pros and cons.

TRB is good for more efficient transfer / absorb of stress and load due to bigger surface contact area.
However, like david explained, they are not good for absorbing shocks.
This is true when it is used for our cars and in Malaysia.
With all the uneven roads, potholes, bumps, extreme speed breakers & etc., they are just too much for such TRB bearing type to work longer or comparable to BB.
Also not to mention the driver's driving style. Sudden pecut and hard braking. All these are not good stuffs for TRB.

In my company's pumps, they do not subject to shocks as much as our car wheels.
No uneven roads, potholes & etc.
We do not operate the pumps suddenly from slow shoot up to high speed and then from high speed, slow down again.
It's only the stress and load from a rotating shaft that the TRB needs to handle, hence, the service life of TRB will be much higher than BB in my case.

Hence, both TRB and BB has its own pros and cons depending on the application.
TRB may be good for my case but bad if used on cars.

Above are ayam theories based on my technical expertise that I have now on bearings.
Kindly correct / advise me if I'm wrong.
