just abit surprised its already that much. but if you say its fine, i think it should be okay i guess

i just upgraded to 12GB, lots of RAM atm laugh.gif

Primocache is something i might go take a look though

Well there are "tons" of free system backup utilities, The windows backup that could create and image of your drive is already good enough, you just need to copy your system image to somewhere safer and makes a two copies of it.
There are no sign of when the storage drive gonna die sweat.gif

will still wear, since its your primary drive and everytime it reaches it P/E cycle. my Intel 530 SSD have already made 3.7TB writes since i bought it half a year ago. i dont even install any games on it shocking.gif

try this perhaps? do like what i plan to do in future

buy 2 SSD. 1 120GB , 1 500GB or 1TB SSD. then put all OS files on 120GB SSD, the rest dump to the bigger cap SSD. that way, even if max writes reached and you need to replace SSD (few years time) you dont have to reinstall OS drive or do anything with primary drive.

cons of that, expensive and takes up 2 2.5" slot in your casing
*
Well, try to check the background IO write on task manager, i think your might drop your jaw.
I started Chrome on morning around 11am and didn't off my comp, now i check back the IO write it's already near 1.341 GB rclxms.gif

where did you check them in Task Manager? the Write speed? or Disk Transfer Rate?

mine like writing max ~400KB/s
*
I'm on Windows 7 sweat.gif
On task manager , go to View > Select columns > I/O write bytes.
Prolly same for wundows 8.

Off topic: now already 2.45GB.

chrome is like that. i use firefox nightly. there is no such issue.
for w8.1 it has been changed to 'details' tab in task manager.
*
Chrome is fast, SSD killer and mem hogger, but i use it regularly because it sync between pc and my phone.

I used to be an avid Firefox user until they upgrade to newer skin, the addon bar keep disappear and look messy, now it's not my default browser anymore.
Although it perform faster on low spec pc sweat.gif

Mine is different laugh.gif
Chrome is very fast, and it seems like Firefox still can't master scrolling... (Scrolling in Firefox doesn't look fast and fluid compared to Chrome... shocking.gif )
Even IE11 scrolls webpages much smoother than Firefox... sweat.gif

Chrome works best when it comes to HTML5... especially Youtube... (Tried Opera Next, but Youtube keeps on reverting back to Flash Player when it comes to video playback)... sweat.gif
*
On low spec computer, you'll notice the huge difference, Chrome is fast but after you've install a lot of extension, it will slow down a lot. Plus it eats a lot of RAM.
I understand it's for caching purpose but really it's a lot sweat.gif 8GB RAM isn't enough for me anymore.

For smooth scrolling on FFx, you can use SmoothWheel, or Logitech's addons.
I have not tried much Opera Next though, it was my default browser before Chrome appear, Still waiting the OperaLink function to be added back to the browser. without it Opera is kinda useless for me sweat.gif

Steam shocking.gif

massive 9GB compared to 2-3GB for Chrome doh.gif
*
Well if your games keep updating, that does not count, Chrome are just keep writing even the computer are on idle state.

is samsung the better buy compared to crucial?

lingloong selling:
CRUCIAL MX100 SATA III 2.5" SSD
128GB = RM289
256GB = RM479
512GB = RM935

SAMSUNG 840 EVO SATA III 2.5" SSD / 3 Years Warranty
120GB = RM285
250GB = RM475
500GB = RM935
1TB = RM1699
*
With Samsung SSD you can get their RAM caching software for free, so why not?
Also better in terms of SSD controller.

Although their SSD chips have shorter life span, but i really doubt any end user could kill thier SSD within 3 years of normal usage.

Saw on Qoo10 Samsung EVO 250GB from Bizgram going for SGD159.
*
I bought the 120GB for my HTPC, but i duno what to do with 250GB SSD, as my HTPC is too slow to do anything, and 250GB is too small to store any videos/games, too large for OS sweat.gif
I could buy two of them, but sadly my PC does not support SSD on RAID 0 (damn you AMD!)

Compuzone launch the new Plextor M6 Pro 256GB at RM589. Any reviews or comment on this? Going get 1 SSD next month.

1st choice now is all well recommend Samsung Evo 250GB

Please note the insane benchmark number posted by the OP on hardwarezone might not attainable because he is an overclocker sweat.gif tongue.gif

Either get the M6 pro or wait for Samsung 850.
I have not tested the M6 yet, but Samsung Magician software is very easy to use.

for performance drives, so far the cheapest is still crucial m550. however, note that the warranty period are different for these drives.

1. crucial m550 - 3 years;
2. plextor m6 pro - 5 years;
3. samsung 850 pro - 10 years.
*
I don't know M550 selling how much in Malaysia, but here in Singapore M550 is much more expensive compare to other brands like Evo/HyperX/Plextor.
Plus they lacks the RAM caching software makes them less attractive than Plextor/Samsung SSD.

The only downside is those RAM caching software like PlexTurbo and Samsung Magician does not work with RAID-0 SSD, Primocache might be useful for this case.

Does it only peak at certain time or almost always?
Do you runs anything or copying huge files when you saw that value?
*
When booting into desktop on Windows 8, yes the disk usage is 100% for a few second, read/write are just a few MB/s but the response time is very high.

Try to run benchmark and post the result on here, you can try CrystalDiskMark, ATTO or AS SSD.
Aslo make sure your system do not have too much background process running when you're playing games.

hi.. i just bought ssd last week, when i try to fresh install windows 8 pro with ahci mode, but my windows 8 pro fail to boot. there is no problem with ide mode.

my mobo MSI 970A-G46 and my ssd Micron C400 256GB
*
windows 8, or 8.1? Windows 8 ISO is a buggy POS, you could install with IDE mode and later switch to AHCI, but you have to install all the hotfix and service pack before switching.
'Fresh install 8.1 even better.

hmm.. i only got dvd for windows 8, so if i download 8.1 iso, can i use my 8.0 key?
*
8.1 is just a service pack, yes you can use it.

I had the same problem too, i got it away by upgrading from Windows 7, which bypassed the driver installation.

Hi guys, I am looking at Samsung 840 evo 120gb. Is there any reason for me to get the 256gb if my uses are just general usage/work and I just want a speedier laptop? I'll replace the optical drive with the SSD and there is another 1TB HDD for storage.

I see from reviews that samsung 840 evo is probably about the best bang for buck SSD at the moment.
*
If you have the budget, why not?
Large capacity SSD might save your headache later if you don't want to carry extra portable HDD with you.

3D NAND is doing good there biggrin.gif

but im still not convinced of it being TLC
*
TLC will be the future of large and cheap SSD, i read the article bout it somewhere.
also larger SSD has longer life span if the SSD controller and the OS is doing it right.

HDD capacity can increase as large as they want as i dont really care, you dont wanna lose 60TB of data at once do you? brows.gif sweat.gif
