Depends on what IEM/headphone you are comparing to.
Im going to get mine from a friend who receive Xiaomi delivery yesterday. Im not expecting miracle. Just wanna kill the hype. Update 1: Totally blew my expectation. I didn't expect it to be this bad, considering the rave review. It really prove my theory is correct. Maybe Mi3 is a bad companion. Going to try with Note 2 and Nokia 808 when I get home. I think I will try my go vibe v6 along to see if there's any improvement. I'm beginning to wonder what sort of RM200 headphone people were comparing to. Those overpriced junk from Sony? Update 2: Plug it into my Mi3 but this time through GoVibe V6. Big improvement. However, I plugged in a N-years (I cant even remember) Mylar 1B and still gets better clarity. There is this strange veil that seem to affect the vocals. It just wont sing naturally. Using MiSoundEnhancer make it sounds too digital. I can see why people like it. The instruments separation is pretty good, at least when its being amp'ed. You get lots of cymbal clarity playing on the outer sound field for example. I think the bass is really poor, when not amplified. If anything, it reminds me of the sound of Philips HP890. Very relaxing to listen as it has an awesome soundstage. I think I will end my testing here. I think Xiaomi messed up somewhat with Piston2. Even their MiSoundEnhancer setting for Piston 2 proved it. You barely hear vocals clearly at all, when you are using it with Mi3, without any amplification. The size of the IEM also made it extremely uncomfortable, for me at least. The seal is pretty good, despite feeling it was a bit loose. On a sidenote, I did tried it for 15minutes with my cousin's iPhone5. I think it powered it adequately and definitely sounds better than it was with Mi3. It was definitely better sounding than the radical iPhone5's earphone. I havent bought IEM/headphone for years, maybe nowadays even junk are priced over RM150. I dont know.. but I think Piston 2 is definitely hard to beat for RM100-150. Any higher, I think there should be choice. This post has been edited by andrekua2: Aug 22 2014, 08:16 PM |

I jz listen to XiaoMi Piston 2.1 with Samsung S3 (no EQ and no amp).
For small review; 1) Piston size got abit big, there for some people may b face fit in ear difficulties. 2) The sound quality of cause cant compete to those good brand such as sennheiser, Hippo, Sony but if say 50 bucks earphone, it can say not bad already. 3) Xiao Mi Piston perform good in treble and details but got a bit bassy in listen to instrumental song such as Kenny G, Kitaro. 4) Xiao Mi Piston perform well in Micheal Jackson song. 5) Xiao Mi Piston perform good in treble and details but got a bit bassy in listen to trance genre song such as Avicii, David Guetta. 6) Xiao Mi Piston perform good in treble and details but got a bit bassy in listen to KPOP genre song such as Big Bang, PSY. 7) Xiao Mi Piston perform good in treble , details and live performance in orchestra genre song. For conclusion: Xiao Mi Piston 2.1 version more suitable to person who like a bit bass head with good in details and treble by 50 bucks. I think serious audiophile (does not need to be high end) should just forget Piston2 and move on to other offering.
I dont think I can say Piston2 is worthwhile if SQ is what you are seeking. Its probably worth the money but definitely not something that extra-ordinary. |

I have them incoming this Monday.
Their FR measurements seems to indicate horribly boosted bass. I plan to do a pinhole mod on the back vent to see if that tames the bass a bit. |

The sound is just OK for the price. I have left it collecting dust after one trial.

I got mine few days back.
first impression is the sound is not "balance" type. It is emphasis on the bass. The mid and high is refine and detail compare to my old shure se102 and klipsch s4. Instrument separation and soundstage is better than klipsch s4 and shure se102. I find the bass is abit too much on certain song and could get out of control and bloat. Overall the sound quality is at least as good as or better than iem with 3x more expensive. |

The thing with Piston is, it's not an audiophile iem. Those who expect to pay rm50-100 and get an audiophile experience might be living in a world with care bears riding unicorns doing a Robin Williams' Phillip Seymour impression.
What you get with a Piston is better SQ than other competitors at similiar price bracket. Not to mention you have a microphone and remote too. Piston's achilles heel is rock or fast kind music. It'll quickly loose its details. Stick to slow to medium tempo and you'll get a sound experience that you can hardly get with other remote IEM in the market within rm100. |

QUOTE(terradrive @ Aug 23 2014, 03:30 PM) Niceee i myself like the V shaped characteristics of triple fi. though sometimes i wish i can have more mid, especially when female vocal.someone with triplefi and pistons can you give a brief comparison between the two? triplefi is one of my favourite iems (thats why i get ue900) also your sound preference like you like bass or analytical. Im curious how the pistons sound but im not interested in getting one since i got so many iems liao the tf10 is very analytical and wide sound stage. when i put on xiaomi piston, i get more mids, which i enjoy very much. and i am surprised with the wide sound stage(due to its open back design) due to its open back design, the bass is not too punchy( compared to my tf10) , but good enough for normal pop song. it is great for vocal. instrument and orchestra kind, there are better iem out there for MJ pop song, i like it on the tf10 |

lol overkill much?
Surprisingly SQ is quite good, way above the retail price. However i found the sound flat (not the sound signature) and lifeless compared to IEMs above the RM200 range ![]() |
