I've been going through some online reviews for both the Y500 & Y510P.
I noticed that the Y510P has a shorter battery runtime (2h 49min) compared to the Y500 (4h 04min) atiIdle (without WLAN, min brightness).
1hr in difference. geramnya. I thought Haswell supposed to be more energy efficient that Ivybridge?
Also no turbo boost enabled for Y510P. Dono if this can be solved via software update later.
Apart from that, I like the Y510P.

So guys, I just chatted with some Lenovo representative and asked about US unit's warranty if it could be covered in Malaysia or not. Please refer attachment for the screenshot.

So, what do you guys think.

1. Your Lenovo Rep is probably outsourced to India
2. Makes me wanna go " O, blimey" ala "Mind your language"
3. I realize that its not likely that anyone here remembers this series. lol.

Y510p has longer battery life. Up to 5 hours checked mine d. U got both your time mixed up.

Hi Ruzty,
Nope, I got the info from Notebookcheck.
For the Y500
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo...ok.87585.0.html
For the Y510P
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo...ok.97470.0.html

However, both reviews are for the SLI versions.
The Y510P can however go up to 5 hours if you run on a single GPU & use the build in Intel's Haswell architecture which affects the graphics card: the HD Graphics 4600. Then, it would run much much longer, up to 5 hours. Your Y510P is not a SLI type right? smile.gif.

Oops, Just realized that YT Lay has already answered this question earlier.
Hmm, is there an extended battery for the Y510P?

i dunno about u guys on sli. but for my single version. if i run on batt.. i cant play games without sacrificing the framerates. meaning it will be slow like mad.. maybe i hvnt tweak the batt management settings..

meaning to say i hv to be plugged in to the power socket to play games all the time. anyways the heavy tasking process will drain the batt like nobody business.
*
Yup. agree on that. So it looks like even if I do get the SLI version for the power, I could always take out the additional GPU & run on single to extend the battery runtime when I can't be plugged in.

Ok, I just got an email from Ian Yong, PITH Komtar, Penang (official reseller for Lenovo in Penang).
Price for a Y510P SLI, is RM3039. (I think kinda expensive) RAM still not sure if 1.5V or 1.35V but they say can use 1.5V RAM.

For anyone who has a Y510P, could you check if your RAM is 1.35V or 1.5V?

Thanks

Sure it's SLI version?

Ok, I just talked to them, it is not the SLI version. Damm. Single GPU only.
So its RM3039 for the non SLI Y510P
& RM3999 for the SLI Y510P

& they have no idea about what the RAM voltage is, wheter its the DDR3L(1.35V) or DDR3 (1.5V).

can get the same price from Hikaru & she has a rebate (merdeka promotion) so its even cheaper.Attached Image

Hi Ruzty.
so your original RAM was DDR3(1.5V) & you changed it to DDR3L(1.35V)?

Thanks for the advice storm.

Just got an email from her. Got stock. 1 day for delivery. smile.gif

Actually, I more comparing on service feedback. So far she is quite prompt. So is Ian from PITH.
Only thing difference is that Ian stock is a lot slower. no SLI available at his shop yet. only single GPU.

Ok guys, I need your help.
I'm planning to get a Y510P SLI (Dual GT750M). As I am in Penang, makes sense to get it from someone nearby.
I haven't come across any shop that has it in house. All of them claim that they have stock & can get it from their distributor in 1 day. However, need to make a downpayment first & most charge extra 2% if you use a credit card.
So my question.
Has anyone in Penang bought a Y510P & who did you buy it from. Also, how did you find their service & knowledge?
Also, what is a good cooling pad to get. Looks like I'll need to get one.

Hi Tachlio,
Yes, she is a good choice. Only problem is she is B'worth & does not have ready stock for this model.
Have to wait at least a day & there is a surcharge is I use a Credit Card to pay.
So far, any problems dealing with her?
Thanks,

Hi Black,
What cooling pad are you using? Could you take a photo of how you place the laptop on the pad? Also, where are the fans on the pad placed?
The Lenovo Y510P has its exhaust fans blowing out the hot are at the sides so you need to check that this hot air is not being recirculated back into the laptop by the cooling pad.

errr, I kiasi. Just want to make sure that the laptop is working before buying it. smile.gif.
She is actually my first choice but I'd like to know if anyone here has any negative comments.

Besides, I kena before, seller says 1 day wait time, ended up 1 month. Not Hikaru ok. smile.gif

Am not at home at the moment so can't snap a pic for ya....
Its' a no big branded brand cooling pad (Inno NC37 Unique Style Notebook Cooling Pad White Inno NC37) with around 12cm diameter fan.... some how I felt it's good enough wind blowing upward when it's turn on. I placed it below the laptop grill part, the original laptop cooling system kept on blowing plenty of hot air on left hand side (which somehow cause my hand pretty pretty warm or burn feel on long hours).

It maybe the position of the cooling system Lenovo design ba...  rclxub.gif

Yup, agree that Lenovo Cooling design isn't that good compared to Asus G series. but the price. tongue.gif
& the infamous Asus Service Center horror stories.

I think that you're correct, getting a reliable seller is more important. If Hikaru is ok, I'm probably going to get it through her. Only checking if there is anyone closer in Penang Island. Sad to say, most of them don't know much about the Y510P. Some of them even give wrong information.
& am going for the SLI version.

Only Y410P having the connector?

Any Y510P user can clarify this?

hmm. being able to use a M.2 SSD would be nice. If the connector wasn't installed, Timkai? Lenovo, timkai?
