I was thinking of passive cooling (no fans) which is basically lifting the back edge of the laptop so there is better airflow & cooling.
Maybe something like this one?

Anyone using one of these & would it be a good buy?

No fans? Just get a paper weight or a book or something to lift the back of your laptop so that there's is air flow below the laptop (where some of the vents are). Last time I used a deck of cards to do this lol

Btw, the cooler comes with fans. The CM U series is memang famous for adjustable fans, that is you can adjust the fan position on the cooler itself, to suit your laptop.

Ok. I just checked the Cooling master website.
http://www.coolermaster.com.my/product.php...&category_id=16

For this model, U1, no fans included but we can buy the fans separately.

lol, sorry.. it's not like I'm shouting at u xD sorry for that tongue.gif

I made those words bold so that people who search for infos are able to read it clearly lol.. no need to read line by line xD

btw, higher voltage doesn't bring better performance le~  sweat.gif  it will only spoil ur laptop due to excessive voltage supply  ohmy.gif

Dude, You're confusing wattage (W) & voltage (V).
A higher wattage adapter, i.e. a 170W adapter can supply more power than a 120W adapter. & yes, better to get a 170W if your are getting an SLI.
I believe that the voltages on both adapters are the same. & yes, if you were to use an adapter with a higher voltage, you'd probably blow most of the components on the motherboard.

eh, oh ya... my bad! hahahaha

but still, what I'm saying is true of course... Using the higher wattage adapter isn't good... hahah biggrin.gif

btw, thanks for correcting me bro!  rclxms.gif

Hi Bro, actually, using the 170W adapter is better than using the 120W adapter as long as the voltages are the same.
It just means than if your laptop power load is allowed to go upto 170W which could be the case if you are running the SLI GPUs (GT750M).
If you have a 120W adapter & your laptop is using more than that, some of the systems on the laptop may not have enough power to run.
If you have a 170W adapter & your laptop is using less, the adapter would actually run cooler as it doesn't have to supply that much power.
Only drawback I can think of for not getting the 170W adapter is the size & weight as it's heavier & bigger.

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-...UK/td-p/1134467

Another thing, I believe the 170W adapter's jack is a little tighter compared to the 120W adapter.

So basically, if you are running SLI, get the 170W adapter as the 120W adapter may not be powerful enough.

Hope this helps. smile.gif

Any recommendations on who I could buy a Lenovo Y500 or Y510P from in Penang?
Just came from a shop last weekend & either the salesman there don't know the model well, or just trying to sell me the darn laptop by telling me what he thinks I want to hear.
Laptops do not have a FTL drive yet.

Just got a msg from Hikari85. The Lenovo Y510P should be available at the end of August. Hmm. Wonder got merdeka sale or not.
I'm considering getting either a Y500 or a Y510P from her. Anyone have any experience buying stuff from her or not?

Thanks,

Thanks guys.
1. hmm. So Y500 or Y510P (should be out in end of August)?
2. The laptop (y500) already has 8GB DDR3. I'm thinking of adding in another DDR3 8GB 1600Mhz Team Elite.
Anyone have had problems with Team Elite RAM & would the both DDR3 run in dual channel?

Between the Y510P & Y500, if both are SLI GT750M, which would you get?
Price difference seems to be RM100 only.
Lenovo Y510P 59-389550 (2xGT750) = RM3999
Lenovo Y500 59-378187 (2xGT750m) = RM3899
My concern is the cooling as the Y510p runs slightly hotter.
According to notebookcheck, both are using the same chassis so they're the same size.

Hi guys,
For those of you who have ordered the Y510P, could you check which CPU it came with?
Is it the i7-4700MQ 2.4G as advertised or the i7-4702MQ 2.2G as some other users have checked? (see forum below for details).

If you are in Penang, you could get it from their authorized reseller in Komtar ICT, Ian Yong (011-12444067), PITH Computer.

Or from Hikaru85 in the forum who has a shop in B'worth.

if you check Intel spec sheet on all the Haswell laptop CPU released so far, you will see that Haswell mobile CPU (HQ, MQ, U, Y) only support DDR3L or LPDDR3.
http://ark.intel.com/

sticking 1.5v DDR3 into Haswell spec laptop is asking for trouble laugh.gif
*
Hmm, so does the DDR3 RAM in the new Y510P 1.5v or 1.35V?

Hope sifus here can help me if have unknown issue as I still newbie of laptop. biggrin.gif

Cool, I too am thinking of getting one from her. Just curious, did you upgrade your RAM?
also, could you check if your RAM is DDR3L (1.35V) or just DDR3 (1.5V)?

Nexus says it should be DDR3L.

According to notebookcheck, the Y510P has a battery life of 2hr49min at idle. The Y500 has a battery life of 4hr04min at idle.
other cons is the Y510P doesn't turbo boost but the Y500 does.

I'm using CPU-Z

Pretty nifty program that lets me check out whats on my laptop without having to open it.
I think the RAM voltage is listed under the SPD tab.

Probably the high end Y510p SLI model can use the m2 SSD, but its too new and difficult to find in the market.
Its not a big issues as we can use the normal 2.5" SSD with bigger capacity.  smile.gif

Swap the HD drive with a SSD, correct?
