I am staying in Osaka for 7 days, so my hotels are booked there.
Can I do Fushimi Inari shrine, kinkakuji, ginkakuji, kiyomizu temple and higashiyama district in 2 days? Or will it be too rushed?
Planning my itinerary. thanks

of course can, depend on u schedule. fushimi is at south, u can combine ginkakuji, higashiyama, kiyomizu at one days but will be rush.. visit gion/potoncho at night.
if u know, kinkakuji is at north. u only have 2 days at kyoto?

I'm planning to visit Osaka, Nara and Kyoto in 7 days. So maybe i can put 3 days in Kyoto and a day in Nara. It looks like a lot of walking so maybe my grandmother needs some time ( she's used to walking in Aussie )

i see. then u shouldnt plan so tight. nara just a day trip. u can consider combine nara with fushimi.
3 day in kyoto is ngam ngam. 1 day arashiyama, 1 day higashiyama, 1 day central kyoto. u can combine subway and citybus. got higashiyama and central, city bus are just well connected to all attraction. mind to share when u go? different period can see different scene at japan.

WTF? U know what is the meaning of KIX?
Kix = Kansai
kansai is a State that including Kyoto City + Osaka City + Nara City + Kobe City. If you in Osaka City then why you say ''I will taking a morning train to KIX''?
Damm So misleading........Do more homework first.

I totally tot you start from Tokyo , take morning train to Kix ...then back to Tokyo ...11 am flight

buy ur jr pass here at agency. they will issue u a exchange order. when u reach there, redeem ur jr pass at jr tix counter.
no need advance booking, unless u wan reserved seat.
with ur ordinary jr pass, just hop in to free seating coaches.

I'm going on end of January - early Feb. Probably not much to see as its still winter. Any recommendation?
Is the city bus there efficient? I don't really like to take bus with Malaysia's experience.

wa... still cool eh.. hav to take care ur granny. bus is efficient and i dun think rapid or other mas bus service can compare with them. dun worry.
get the city bus route map, check properly your destination, bus route no., and bus stop name. there are few buses will bring u to ur destination, find out the right direction will save u a lot of time. else, it will take u to "longkai".. laugh.gif

Whatlah your question about the bus. This is Japan ok!! not Malaysia. Definitely the buses, trains & public transportation are way efficient than Malaysia. You should know already.

Aiyoh!! pls do more homework before you ask. JR Pass cannot be purchase in Japan because it is solely for tourist. Even Japanese living in Japan are not entitle for JR Pass. They have different type of pass & u must know which one suit your trip. You must buy in the country where you residing. Buy from their appointed agency. In Malaysia so many agent selling JR Pass. You can get it from Japan Travel Bureau. They have office in KL and Penang.

7 days Japan Rail Pass for the whole Japan is JPY28,300. 1 Day JR West Rail Pass for Kansai area is JPY2000. 5 days JR East Rail Pass is JPY20,000. So you must know how many days you will be staying in Japan & which area.

Hikari are the 2nd fastest train after Nozomi. The difference between Hikari & Kodama are the Hikari are faster than Kodama & also less stop whereas Kodama got several stop along the way.

Alright...Thanks for your information notworthy.gif . I try to search the information about transportation but too complicated rclxub.gif

My girlfriends plan after arrive to Osaka direct take bullet train direct to Tokyo. From Tokyo start point play until Osaka end point total stay 7 days. I personally think that 7 days JR pass because can use unlimited ride just have some exceptions.

-Can't take Nozomi trains
-Can't take Mizuho trains
-JR trains using non-JR tracks
-Night trains, are not fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass
-The pass is not valid on any highway buses

correct me if I'm wrong

How many days is your trip?? What is your plan in Tokyo? You can use JR Pass to Hakone too. So if you want to buy the 7 days pass, make sure you must full utilize it while you are in Tokyo or Osaka other wise it will be a waste. Myself, I have Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka & day trip to Nagoya so it is worth to buy 7 days pass.
