I'm planning to visit the tuna auction at Tsukiji fish market in November which means I have to be there before/around 3am.
Since my flight will reach Haneda airport around midnight, I'll spend the night at the airport and take a taxi around 3am from the airport to the market. Is that possible (and how much will it cost)? Are there even any taxis around that time?
Another option would be for me to stay nearby for a few hours in this place called Com Com Manga Cafe.
http://tokyocheapo.com/accommodationcat/co...t-tuna-auction/

I prefer the first option but what do you guys think?
I'm planning to stay in Shinjuku while in Tokyo.

Lol! the distance is about 16km. Last time I took a midnight cab, less than 1km being charged 1000 yen already.

Hello LYN travel kaki's...

I will be doing my first Nippon this coming Mar'14. Almost settled with the rest of accommodations and arrangements except for Tokyo part.

May i ask; For two between 12-16/03/14, is it better to stay Ebisu or Meguro if i am not manage to get somewhere closer to Shibuya? Will it be inconvenient if say i am at Meguro and wanting to move around Tokyo?

Thanks so much in advance for the help.

Happy New Year!!!

Any suggestion to improvise for my itinerary below?

Jan 2014

13 -Niigata-meet up with sibling(1N)

14 Kanazawa (1N)

15-16 Osaka (Kobe/Nara/Namba) (2N)

17-19 Kyoto (3N)

20-Hiroshima (Day trip to Miyajima Island) (1N)

21-Nagasaki (1N)

22-Fukuoka (day trip to Beppu) (1N)

23-Hiroshima City (1N)

24-Ikebukuro,Tokyo (1N)

25- Chuo, Tokyo (1N)

26-Shinjuku,Tokyo (1N)

27-28 Nihonbashi, Tokyo (2N)

29-30-Akihabara,Tokyo (2N)

31-Narita

Feb

1-Depart home

I would appreciate advise on:

a) I understand we can go Hakone from Shinjuku. Is a DAY trip sufficient as the journey from Shinjuku-Hakone is abt 1hour plus?

b) The Hakone Free Pass provided by Odakyu Railways, is it applicable for JR pass?

b) Is the Gotemba Factory Outlet worth going / things are cheaper there?

c )Much has been said about the Sushidai in Chuo, anything worth eating there besides the OMAKASE set?

d)Should we go to Tsukiji fish market first or line up /Q for the Sushidai first?

e)if I plan to go to Jigokudani Monkey Park in Nagano, is it more convenient from Tokyo or other city?

I hope my personal info below would help to give a better suggestion.

-It is NOT MY FIRST TIME TO JAPAN. I have been to Disneyland, Nagoya (Nagoya Castle), Fukuoka (Fukuoka Tower) & Osaka (Osaka Castle/Sakura) but I have not been to Kyoto/Nara/Kobe

-I have purchased the JR Nationwide Rail Pass for 21 days

-My focus is on Sightseeing/Culture/Food/Heritage/Island and a bit of nightlife

-I am 33yo & I will be travelling alone

Thanks!

If you are planning to go around Hakone, confirm day trip is not enough. You should either stay 1-2 nights at a Ryokan at Hakone.

b) The Hakone Free Pass provided by Odakyu Railways, is it applicable for JR pass?

b) Is the Gotemba Factory Outlet  worth going / things are cheaper there?
Yes, confirm cheaper. Bought my Gap jeans for RM120 a pair only. Adidas as cheap as RM90 per pair and so many designs to choose from, confirm can't find in KL. Bought Banana Republic jeans for RM130 a pair and blouse for RM20 a piece! I once saw a Tommy Hilfiger winter jacket for RM100 but didn't get coz that time already have my own jacket but abit regret never bought.

c )Much has been said about the Sushidai in Chuo, anything worth eating there besides the OMAKASE set?

Do the homework.
Find what is the difference.

JR are Government.  Odawara was Private Company.    Private Vs Government.  you know which more luxury  smile.gif
Do the homework, you will found what special can found in Romance car

I rode on the romance car and tbh I don't see what's so special about it. It's really comfortable, like business class seats on planes and they serve food and coffee on trolleys but you have to pay la of course.

The only good thingi like about it is the express route. Straight to shinjuku with minimal stops. Take the express train will take up an additional 20 to 30 mins compared to romance.

Oh yeah if you got 4 people in your group you can swivel the chairs to face each other but mind the seats in front and back as it will hit their legs

Just finish up my Tokyo itinerary :

1st Day - Arrive Kansai Airport (8.30 morning) take shinkansen to Tokyo (check in at Ikebukuro) reach around 2pm > go to Tokyo teleport (Odaiba)

2nd Day - Ueno (visit National musuem of nature and science) >  Sensoji Tample > Tokyo SkyTree  >  Akabanebashi Tokyo Tower

3rd Day - DisneySea

4th Day -Tsukiji market > Ginza > Harajuku > Shibuya > Shinjuku

5th Day - Hakone trip

Have any idea on my itinerary ??  laugh.gif
*
Way too packed la tbh. To give you an idea we went ueno + science museum + akihabara already dark. And legs broke already. We didn't even explore the whole of akihabara, only a couple of hours. Warranted another visit at the end of our trip

Shibuya itself easily half day. Best shopping experience for me is Shibuya. Ginza abit pavilion feel so if you like brands you should be there

Yeah I agree with you too. Not much of a romance. I got mine last minute so could not get those front seat where you can have much better view. Seat wise, especially the width also pretty much like the shinkansen. If you like to look at the view, it will be better than shinkasen. Shinkansen move way too fast for you to check out the view.

If you really want to go to Ginza, try to go during the weekend before 6pm. They will close the main roads for cars and put some chair and tables in the middle of the road. Just to get a feel of the atmosphere. Imagine they do this for Jln Sultan Ismail. smile.gif

Aiyak, kena tembak also, hahaha... Got do homework, RegentCid so dont hit me so hard yar. I know all three Shibuya > Ebisu > Meguro is south-bound Yamanote line. But each station has more intersection than the other so i just want to clarify lor...

Ok put that aside, i guess i can live with the moving around part. But is Meguro a nice place to stay??? It should not be a bustling as Shibuya rite???

Thanks...

Since you are on holiday, is it important if Meguro is a nice place to stay? If ease of transportation and you need to be in the "action" quickly is what you want, of course Shibuya/Shinjuku is a better place to stay. You can just walk out of your hotel and spend whole day in Shinjuku or Shibuya. As for meguro, not much to see, so you will need to go take the train. Tokyo is pretty much very convenient in whatever place you stay as its pretty much connected by bus/metro/train. Just that the further away you stay from the tourist place, you need to pay more for transportion

With only 3 days are you sure you want to spend one full day (1/3 of the entire trip) at a theme park?

Scroll up few posts, I don't see the point in going tsukiji if you are not going to either queue for the two famous sushi places or queue for the tuna auction (or both).

Happy New Year!!!

With regards to the Japan train schedule(www.hyperdia.com) how do we know if the train is run by JR railway or private railway?

Example from Niigata to Kanazawa departing at 10.15 am on 14 Jan 2014,need to take SHINKANSEN TOKI 320 to Nagaoka and LTD. EXP HOKUETSU 4 to Kanazawa.

Can someone please enlighten me on this?

Thanks!
