According to Lenovo's website:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/h...?DocID=HT074528

You need proof of purchase and proof of travel for their international warranty.

Yeah, i have said it earlier.
So for those who buying oversea set, please be careful. Actually the seller himself should indicate there might be a risk in warranty if not very misleading to those buyers.

Nobody is going to buy those sets if the seller himself declares that the units do not have warranty coverage in Malaysia.

I supposed this is part of Lenovo's commitment to their local partners. No one is going to buy Malaysian sets if they can get US sets cheaper and with warranty some more.

Excuse me, trying to equate Lenovo with Apple is like comparing Durian with Apple.

For Apple products, no matter what, Apple would look at the date when you activate the product.

For example, turn on a Mac, or an iPhone, and both will contact Apple's registration server to say, Hey! Product code so and so is turned on for the first time and activated, please register the warranty.

That means if you buy on the 4th but you turn on the system for the first time on the 7th, your warranty starts from the 7th.

The only time Apple would ask a copy of the receipt is if something screws up during activation, whereby Apple will default the warranty from the manufacturing date. Then you need to send Apple a copy of your receipt.

And Apple has no care a whit of where you buy your set, as long as activation is followed.

Now, for Lenovo, the system defaults to registering your warranty from the manufacturing date. If the system is made on the 1st May 2013, the warranty defaults to 1st May 2013.

It becomes the duty of the reseller then to send the appropriate documentation to Lenovo for them to update the warranty based on the documentation. For some countries, such as Malaysia with the appropriate MY serial, not only will Lenovo update the warranty date but also any 2 year extension if necessary.

So for the same set, if you buy it on the 31st May 2013, Lenovo will then update the set to 31st May as soon as they check the receipt. I once got into trouble and All IT had to help explain the discount that was noted on my receipt as "sell to reseller". Still had that email in fact. Yes, they do look at your receipt.

So no, things are not that clear when you buy non Malaysian set.
