Anyone can suggest nice Lego-related number for car license plate?
I know 0937 read upside down is LEGO but it won't work as car registration number cannot begin with number 0. smile.gif

Yep, "forced" to change.... need to "downgrade" to more affordable mode of transport, the old 10-year old vintage I'm driving now is draining my Lego funds for repairs and maintenance. Wish I could buy a Lego UCS car, put in power functions and drive it around town. Some more can sell it later for profit when EOL coz Lego always appreciates yah? whistling.gif

7965 Falcon? Good idea to use Lego set numbers, but all my fav sets are 5-digit numbers. laugh.gif

Yes..but only bring he/she late in the evening due to the heat. But at that age, most of the rides need adult at the side.

Like someone else mentioned - uncle here. Have a PS3 that may be a dedicated Blu-ray player soon. Can't seem to play new games without getting headache. Was in the midst of playing "Sleeping Dogs". Get headache playing First Person Shooters initially but then 3rd person action games also give me problems lately such as Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, Unchartered .......

saw some posts before about the Lego Minifigures Character Encyclopedia
got some of the book vouchers left but no books to buy so maybe get this by using the voucher biggrin.gif
(the voucher expired this month)

is anyone know the book still available at KLCC big book shop? (kinokuniya if i'm not mistaken)
or at MPH or popular?

Is the book only available by asking the counter?
how much is the book cost? is it about RM60-80?

Off topic but .......

Haven't been playing much of other types of games. I play mainly action adventure (Unchartered, God Of War etc), some Need For Speed games, WWE (Wrestling). Metal Gear series is one of my favorites.

The Last Of Us is one of the ones on my radar. The recently revealed Arkham Origins got my interest too.

Boring reveal, it's becoming more of an entertainment system rather than a game console. And we have to pay a fee to MS for second games? doh.gif vmad.gif
Waiting for more info to surface before deciding, but...like Alby said, I'm a Halotard so I probably will still get the new Xbox since it's an exclusive laugh.gif

Usually i'll open LEGO boxes with a blade / penknife so that i wouldn't damage the box.
I usually keep them box in box (Russian Doll Style)

Small box go in Medium box go in Large box

Well if we buy US boxes, most of them comes with taped boxes. So opening them should not damage the box. But somehow us collectors in msia, not just get screwed with the higher price tags. They will also give us push tabs, even for sets that are over rm200 doh.gif doh.gif

That's where the pen knife comes in.

Bro, curious. How many six-shooter pistols do you get in the set? Lone Ranger armed with 2.

Any extras like how there's always extra Batarangs with Batman sets?

There are three of the new pistols in pearl silver, and two in dark pearl silver, counting the “extras.”

http://www.brothers-brick.com/2013/04/08/l...-escape-review/

but i think the "extras" are different from bag to bag?

Oh, Lone Ranger? Not interested. Already drank antidote tongue.gif

I may want to get just the gun for a little project involving modern "hunters".

Need a Winchester replica and I think Lone Ranger's gun will do tongue.gif

Come to think of it, if I go on with the plan, I may need to get lots of weapons like shotgun, machetes, daggers .......

Those Daiso (green) only sells items priced at RM5.
Daiso (red) have items above RM5.

So you don't have to go looking for the big display box in green outlets. They do have the small RM5 display case though.

I actually didn't know that the Lone Ranger set is based on the upcoming movie, until I watched Iron Man 3 on Monday. Too long never been to the cinema...abit outdated.

Parkson got no discount on Lone Ranger set it seems, but Aeon have 10%.

probably just a rough guide, if you consider the usd price need to add shipping price. generally from my US purchases through various services, the multiplier is roughly 4.5 or so (after shipping), depending on item.

another thing is if u use any lower number then none of the lego sold here is worth buying at all lol. in fact this yr the only set i bought from shop was extremis sea battle. all other i rather buy from online cos local RRP is just too expensive.

last time when they sell those creator set (31000-31009), ALJ pricing is multiplier 3, which means if we see any, must sapu...cos we are getting this stuff cheaper than US

multipier 5 = means the price i m getting if i self import.
so less than 5 means buy from retail is cheaper than self import. (at least for me)

thats for me personally. at the moment the only item i would buy retail is baseplate.

currently there are some set on amazon that send here is good price.

lego 3315 olivia house. here selling RM360 (RM324 after 10% off).
if i order amazon its ~RM270 (expedited) ship to my doorstep.

ninjago 9450, ebay malaysian seller selling rm510. amazon (expedited) ship to here, rm400.

so probably better/saefst option is to look for those seller in malaysia who bring in themselve and sell for some profit rather than the distributors insane price.

Even with a 10% discount, the price is still not worth getting locally?
*
can't find any record sad.gif

only got this:
42004 Mini Backhoe Loader
USD 24.99 | RM99.90 | multiplier = 4
-10% = 89.91 |multiplier = 3.6

For this one, i got lucky a bit, only paying rm80-85 (hard to count since i also got bring in other stuff)
the saving is there, but not significance...

might be better to buy from retail? (credit card point, royalty point, etc)
so why do I import then? well, I didnt know parkson n jusco will be selling them (saw them selling around 1 month later) vmad.gif

thats for me personally. at the moment the only item i would buy retail is baseplate.

currently there are some set on amazon that send here is good price.

lego 3315 olivia house. here selling RM360 (RM324 after 10% off).
if i order amazon its ~RM270 (expedited) ship to my doorstep.

ninjago 9450, ebay malaysian seller selling rm510. amazon (expedited) ship to here, rm400.

so probably better/saefst option is to look for those seller in malaysia who bring in themselve and sell for some profit rather than the distributors insane price.
*
@vey99

Most of the sets that I saw on Amazon US don't ship to Malaysia, are you getting from Amazon UK?

A question,

How about both if Amazon ship and local seller (either ALJ or others) having almost the same price, just like a few dollars different? maybe local sell like, maybe 7 or 14 ringgit more expensive, will you still decide to buy it over from Amazon? Some is worry the shipment until here the box already like very bad in shape...

u r saving over 30%....this money can be used to get another set biggrin.gif

went to 3 TRU in penang (penang only got 3), all dont have base plate...
ask the the cashier, they say KL never send them any

yep most dont ship here but on the left there is a filter checkbox for "global eligible" or sth, you check that and it will show you (mostly) items that ship to malaysia

so far interesting sets i see are:
- ninjago 9449, 9450
- olivia house
- millenium falcon
- mines of moria
- helms deep

i dun have any fix guideline but i guess ~25% less than RRP here and i would buy liao

for me i spend most of my money on loose parts, costing me a bloody fortune.

Just to share (again), I paid about SGD30.32 ~ RM75.80 in Singapore for 42004 during 20+5% sale.
List price is SGD39.90 ~ RM99.75
Hand carry back.
Bought others also tongue.gif 42006, 42007, ...

Malaysia Lego price is higher than quite a lot of other countries. If anyone has chance to travel, go grab it. Otherwise, local landed price during sale is alright.

*
Amazon don't put enough padding into the shipping box, sometimes the set gets damaged. Not very serious though, like moderate creases and the edges kemek a bit... If you want perfect box then it is 50-50...

The only place I saw it is in Daiso 1-Utama, they have lots of it on the racks nearest to the cashier. Mid Valley confirm don't have. Maybe next month I can go check out Sungei Wang...

Speaking of Aeon, I don't think the discount are standardize throughout their branches. Went to Aeon Cheras Selatan and Equine Park few days back, saw most Lone Ranger sets don't have discount.

But today when I went to Aeon One Utama, there's 10% off everything. So it's a bit weird.

I'm not sure if this is the best thing to do but someone posted a video on BOM of the Super Star Destroyer Vs aThe Death Star by Testedcom on YouTube.

Decided to check their older video and currently watching "The Amazing Test: Bricked" where 2 dudes are going head to head to build these 2 sets in some sort og competition.

Impressed with the contents of the boxes and manuals. Impressive, most impressive tongue.gif

I guess the ending becomes the first video above.

tokutokuya no more the large display case with flat base, now only stepped ones left. alternatively there are other sizes that are interesting as well.

tru has green base plates. about 6 left. and lots of overpriced lego sets.

Awesome! [vey99] you have bricks of talent and patience. Wonder what you do in your day job. Maybe you should consider applying for a job in Lego or achieve Master Builder status.

today at ikano:
tokutokuya no more the large display case with flat base, now only stepped ones left. alternatively there are other sizes that are interesting as well.

tru has green base plates. about 6 left. and lots of overpriced lego sets.

May I know how much is the display case? Thanks.

About the Daiso with red or green, i went to the 1U new wing outlet and asked why some Daiso have the display with steps and some don't. The cashier said Daiso 1U new wing is a wholly owned by Daiso Japan while others are Aeon owned. How true is that?

Guys,

This may be a false alarm but does anyone remember the retail price for LEGO # 4429?

user posted image

Just saw this at TRU Tropicana and it's RRP is RM 279.90 now. I thought it was around RM 349.90 before and that's why there were heaps of this in TRU 1U previously.

user posted image

But like I said, I never really paid attention to CITY theme before so I could be wrong.

Not 349, always been 279. But I bought mine end last yr from Carrefour for 209. Then think they realised wrong price and its back to 269 LoL

Lego don't produce too many hospital sets, unlike fire station and police station which is like 2 per year doh.gif

Even though its aplenty, worth getting one if its cheap.

Despite confirmation by others that it has always been that price, I had the same gut feeling as you... I also remembered that it was RM349.90 when I first saw it at TRU. That's why I imported myself.... That was probably when they first had it and yes they had plenty of them back then. I checked price again after I imported and it was RM279.90, I was also feeling if I had remembered it wrongly.... Lol! doh.gif

Thank you all for the encouragement. I am inspired to *try* to bring more local moc into the scene, although it is very time consuming and expensive.

So far my experience on BL has been good.
I buy from seller who have lots of good feedback, and who are clear on their terms and conditions.
But i buy mostly parts and small sets (unboxed).

Most of my boxed set i still go via amazon if the shipping is reasonable.

Lol! doh.gif
*
Yeah, I was thinking about it. Alternatively, I thought prices dropped because they had excess stock.

Too bad, I thought this is the "new" ALJ or LEGO Group working their magic tongue.gif

What does it mean plus 30 pieces on the page? The MOC uses all contents of the Haunted House plus additional 30 pieces? Looks small or it could be due to the perspective.

i second that laugh.gif
- This set is the largest TECHNIC set to date.
- This is one of the first sets to have pneumatics and Power Functions combined. Earlier models, however, could add Power Functions only to drive a compressor pump for the pneumatics.
- This pneumatics and PTO shaft can be channeled to the front or rear with a switch, allowing the crane and winch to be used on either the front or back.
- The Unimog features a new kind of suspension, discussed on the LEGO Technic blog page.

Depending on what you like for big sets

Medium-to-big:
42006 excavator
9396 rescue helicopter
42000 F1 race car

Big:
8110 unimog - may phase out soon. Licensed set. Pneumatic and motor for winch and grabber.
9398 crawler - current set. Still new and won't EOL so soon. Remote control car, but crawling speed.

8043 is EOL set and premium price. If you can afford, I suggest start with 8043 first.
Then 8110
Then 9398

In between, check out price for 8421 and 8275, if price is acceptable, grab it also. Both EOL already.

Coming later this year will be 42008 and 42009.

Yeah bro. From the Tesco price tags. Don't buy Creators so no idea. Only took a look at some of those RM 99.90 ones before.

Why those no good @$$ holes! tongue.gif

By the way, took a small City police set box and saw it had ALJ sticker.

Trying to MOC the totoro, but no time to design it in LDD. I feel that the LDD is a bit hard to use... maybe is just me...

I saw that they had some old sets built in display case previously such as the Blue Roadster. Then it was gone and and replaced with clone LEGOs. And yes, I was surprised as well as I normally come to TESCO almost every weekend for groceries as well.

Thanks to the long weekend, finally some time to do some building. Wanted to see how a Lego harbour looks like when I placed 3 of the harbour sets together. Took me the whole day to build the sets 6540 to 6542. sweat.gif

With a little modification this intersection can combine with the other 2.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

It even looks ok when I placed the boat from the Extremis set into the diorama. The boat all look in proportion with one another.

Since the police set has 4 highly trained policeman, the baddie cannot get away and was later caught!

And now for the reason I think I need to slow down on Lego; look at the amount of cardboard I have collected over the past 1 year! You can see some really big sets among the pile.

To fit XL motor, you need to widen the suspension in the chassis. Existing L motor is 7 x 3 x 4 (L x W x H)
XL is 6 x 5 x 5 which is 1 stud shorter, but much wider and higher.
It's possible to fit in, by changing the suspended height by 1 stud also.

XL motor rpm is also slower than L ( and M) motor. So you need parts to gear up/down properly.

Where to buy ? Hmm... hmm.gif

Actually it is 1 year plus minus 2-3 months. My income actually increased in the past 2 years or so that is why can afford to buy so much. It didn't help I bought 3 modulars last year to complete my modular collection (PS, TH, FB), then the PC this year.

As for check and balance, try not to overspend in the month after I overspend. Like last month spend more than 1k then this month must spend less or none at all. But small purchases like RM 100 extremis sea battle or RM 100 picit-picit spree can do a 1-2 times. Keep telling myself to save up for bigger sets this coming June July when the UCS X-Wing or Mobile crane is released. sweat.gif

I do not think we can do that since ALJ give Tesco the recommend retail price and it is up to Tesco to decide how much they want to sell. Lego isn't exactly a controlled item like rice etc. I have heard TRU in the US marking up prices and then discounting them but this is the first time I heard Tesco doing it.

Heck, I think Tesco has been doing this "Promosi hebat" scam for items other than Lego too, just that it that not so obvious since Lego is mostly sold at a fixed price all around M'sia.

yes we are the consumers. we have every right to question the pricing they put and also their explanation behind it if its not accurate, we shld point it out.

i agree with ilfort, not many of us (even season collectors) knows the actual common retail price. if tesco says that is promotion prices, many will think it is doh.gif

I hate misleading promotion. Off topic aside when I was at Mark & Spencer today, they clearly states 50% off 2nd item, so if you're a consumer, you will think that you can buy a normal price item and a 2nd item at 50% right. So when queuing up to pay, the cashier said only applicable to certain part of the items.

So fine, I chose an item from the 50% off lot and then only being told by the cashier that you have to choose both item from the 50% items. Now what's the purpose of the promotion then, right? So just walked out without getting anything.

My 3 year old son currently is hooked on Minifigs, and while we were walking around BrickBoy, he scouted the area before pointing out at the S10 series, asked me to carry him so that he can grab 3. So now, I have got 2 Mechanic and 2 Skydiver...coz still dunno how to picit.

I think we can sue Tesco for this, is clearly not a Promosi Hebat, more like water fish come, i slaughter you. The Speedorz price are way more expensive than all the other retailer. I think TRU selling some of the Hero Factory at 44.90 also. . .
*
QUOTE(paanjang16 @ May 26 2013, 11:49 AM)

*
Yes - I've seen prices of shelves that were on "Promosi Hebat" that went from RM 9.90 back to RM 29.90 or RM 39.90 then back down to RM 9.90 all within the span of a couple of months.

QUOTE(zoomckng @ May 26 2013, 12:45 PM)
yes we are the consumers. we have every right to question the pricing they put and also their explanation behind it if its not accurate, we shld point it out.

i agree with ilfort, not many of us (even season collectors) knows the actual common retail price. if tesco says that is promotion prices, many will think it is  doh.gif
*
QUOTE(zoomckng @ May 26 2013, 12:52 PM)
but then when i bring over to tag the items and it show lower. i will keep quiet and go pay biggrin.gif

Back to LEGO news, a small micro haul this morning. Met the seller at Amcorp mall this morning.

This is the first time I've gone there in a long time for LEGO stuff. Usually I stop by there for Hot Toys and other 1/6th figures. So much temptation.

Parking prices are a killer now! Dang!

In too deep, there's no turning back .......

Hi bro. Not sure about the parking inside. Are you referring to the one where you have to drive up the block/tower of parking lots at the side?

The one I parked in was RM 5 for 1st two hours. And got those dudes coming to sell car care products which I don't really like and worried about my car cause I said not interested tongue.gif

XL motor rpm is slower than L motor wink.gif You need to gear-up to go faster than now. Otherwise, by just replacing the motor without gear changes, 9398 will run slower.

Bear in mind, by increasing speed, you lose torque (climbing/crawling over obstacles). Vice versa.

yeah, im planning on changin the gears as well, most prob gonna do a 1:1 ratio, the original ratio is too torque bias, maybe bcoz of the rock crawler original purpose, but lets face it, this thing aint gonna climb any hill, haha so at least i wanna make it go fast at least on the ground, much more fun, just hope the gears will withstand the speed im about to subject it to.

im still having trouble sourcing the motor haih, anybody gonna order from BL mind tumpang my motor? brows.gif

People buying like they are printing money. Was at the Lego shop on Friday, business is very good as a lot of expat buy for their kids. A local also grabbed the priciest Ninjago set and wanted to pay, but didn't buy in the end coz didn't bring TRU Starcard.

I heard that the shop in BV2 is closing, vaguely from the cashier, so maybe that's why the store is getting less and less stocks?

anyone brought in yet?

Hmm. Same Robin figure. The cycle is ..... like a normal vehicle that comes with some of the Batman sets. Think the one from Batcave or Funhouse looks better.

This just matches his costume.

Ok - same dude then.
Don't know about the after sales but seems like a cool dude. And prices are reasonable.

So far my experience on BL has been good.
I buy from seller who have lots of good feedback, and who are clear on their terms and conditions.
But i buy mostly parts and small sets (unboxed).

Most of my boxed set i still go via amazon if the shipping is reasonable.

yes i also looking for some parts... can i know who is the person you dealing with? so that no need worry about problem. icon_rolleyes.gif

currently i prefer to deal with
brickroom -> cheap but slow shipping
the brick speculator -> fast but expensive

but it rly depend on the parts u like. somehow on BL those with high part qty usually sell more expensive lol.

the tesco LEGO promotion "gimmick" is misleading. first they put huge signs pointing to discounted stuff. with close inspection they're MOSTLY in retail pricing , except of a few which occupy 10% of the shelf .. and that only it showed the before + discounted pricing. even that also they pointed at the wrong sets. U just gotta compare the set number with the tiny pricetag lining the shelf to confirm their actual pricing.
