SOTD: Guerlain Vetiver

The best vetiver for a monday. Strong, sharp tobacco that wakes me up whenever the day gets too boring.

A perfect workhorse scent that is also a classic.

SOTD: Habit Rouge EDT

A staple in most european collections, Habit Rouge is the first male oriental. It's basically Shalimar with leather. Its scent is supposed to evoke the leather saddles of horses. It opens with bergamot (the newer version opens with a sparkly and cheery lemon pie) which quickly goes down to vanilla, benzoin, clove, frankincense, cedar, sandalwood and some rose, together with leather. On first whiff, it smells like Sirap Bandung but on skin, the leather nuance makes it one of the most classic leather scents around.

Houses with a sample policy that isn’t on their website:
Frederic Malle – If you phone the NY store, they will send you three samples of your choice for a handling fee of $20.
Serge Lutens – If you email them, write them, or phone them, they will send you a ‘book’ of their wax samples (Petit Livre des Salons) and possibly a spray sample of a current scent. (They’ve been very accommodating on two occasions for me but some have not had luck, fyi.)
Robert Piguet – If you email them, they will send you any samples of your choice for $3 each + $15 shipping.
Hermes – If you send them a thoughtful email, they will send you any sample you ask for (though I’ve heard they’re more helpful in North America than in Europe).
In all these cases, the stores will be most accommodating if you sound like you intend to buy. Keep that in mind when you craft your email/call.

Thanks lene002 for the list. I didn't know there are so many of them. Really appreciated.

My Tauer's Discovery set (5x1.5ml @ RM117) of your choice came in this morning after just two weeks via registered mail. I even received a card signed personally by Mr. Tauer himself. Great attention to detail. Hats off to him. This is what I ordered :-
(05) Incense Extreme
(04) Reverie Au Jardin
(03) Lonestar Memories
(02) L'Air Du Desert Marocain x2

And attention to detail reflects in his perfume as well. I dug up my old sample of LDDM and the notes were complex! Dried mint, Myrrh, Frankinense, Cardamon, Cumin, Cinnamon, Dried Ginger and Benzoin were all there!

now i feel like getting the sample pack myself....

tho i still want pasteum rose..

QUOTE(dewatawangian @ Jan 14 2014, 12:09 AM)
Hi Guys,

Just want to share my latest info regarding fake perfume. I've found out that, there is fake TESTER perfume on online market now. They are using "original" tester box but with fake perfume inside. This is the info that has been pass to me.

- Using standard TESTER Unit perfume box.
- The bottle quality is not up to standard.
- The smell last but only the top note.
- Price are unreasonably cheap for high end perfume.
- Printing quality on bottle is bad sometimes with error on where the perfume are made from and spelling error.

So be careful when buying tester from online seller (I'm a seller to  tongue.gif ). This kind of seller really damaging the online market. If found one, wish to cut their heart out with a spoon.  vmad.gif

Cheers.
*
here's a basic guide to identifying them:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/HOW-TO-SPOT-FAKE...01861892/g.html

if buying online, always remember that if it is too good to be true, it probably is. Perfume price points should be around RM150 for 100ml and 300 for niche even for testers. anything lower than that and the chances of it being fake is high.

buying from other perfume lovers = 0% of fakes

Personally I'd prefer Mont Blanc Indivduel but my recommendation is to sample both at your local dept store to prevent regrets as each person will have their own interpretation of the scent.

Care to describe its scent??
*
From luckyscent:

QUOTE
A rose carved from ancient stone that begins to glow at the edges-- with a dry, peppery crackle-- then slowly comes to life. A gothic rose, dipped in incense, with the sheerness and intensity of sunlight shining through ruby red stained glass. Named for the ancient Roman city famed for its temples to the gods and its profusion of roses, this extraordinary fragrance is regal and pagan all at once. Velvety, wine-drenched Turkish rose luxuriates in a bed of sweet myrrh and bracingly dry and spicy frankincense and woods. The luminous, drunken petals float on breezy osmanthus and peony, but never stray far from the mesmerizing cedar, wenge and resins that give this fragrance its mysterious, shadowy power. A mythical rose, dark and glowing, fit for the gods.

Personal account: A very unique rose scent. If rose was sirap, this would be susu bandung. It is a very soft pastel rose, rose without the edgy dry facet. This rose is soft yet not overtly feminine due to the presence of incense and booze in the base. A complex rose that is soft, yet complex in character. A candied rose that is not too sweet but still retains its innocence.

but then after this long of using it, the association fades off as i dissect the perfume more and more each time i smell it

I am still newbie in this hobby but I am really learn a lot from you guys
7 months ago I still  know ntg bout perfume. I only know CK lol
Slowly learn from many experts here!!!

My taste do changed a lot over time. My initial preference more on citrusy, fresh one and now starting adore notes like incense, amber and oud.
Amouage Interlude man would be my primary target after I get myself DHI hahaha
*
You may wanna sample interlude before buying to avoid regrets. Same goes for every other bottle you wanna buy.

Well learning is part of the whole process of enjoying perfumes because at the same time you get to learn more about yourself as you see how your taste changes in perfumes. It's a very interesting journey for me as well.
