SOTD - Virgin Island Water.

No special occasion. Just spray to test. Smells like vacation, coconut, lime & rum.

For those who wants to know what VIW smells like but unable to test.

It smells quite similar to Bodyshop coconut & malibu.

As I also have Bodyshop coconut shower cream.
Side by side comparisons directly from the bottle :

1. VIW is much more limey. The lime note is strong and you can detect it immediately. There is none in Bodyshop.

2. Sounds weird but from the bottle, the coconut smell in Bodyshop smells much smoother compared to VIW. Bodyshop seems to have the better coconut smell.

However, upon application.

VIW :
1. Smell is beautiful, much stronger and the lime notes are fresh & nice. The smell is similar to as when sniffed in bottle but when sprayed, its much stronger & better.

2. It lasts for quite a long time, but it is not a projection monster. Its projects and lasts better than YSL lhomme, Versace Eau Fraiche, adg on my skin.

Bodyshop coconut :
1. Instead of the nice coconut smell which you smell from the bottle, you will get a "coconut milk" smell. It smells like 'santan' upon application.

2. No longevity/projection. Its a shampoo !! Afterbath smell is nice for coconut lover, It does its job well.

Conclusion:

VIW : small coconut + plenty of fresh limes + lime leaves + little bit of rum.
Bodyshop coconut : small coconut + coconut flesh + coconut milk + cream.

I forgot i have a 1/2 bottle malibu in fridge. Will try to do side by side comparison with VIW later.

SOTD: Guerlain Habit Rouge Eau De Parfum

user posted image

Its one of my treasures in my collection as its not easy to get (although SG now carries it but not previously). Opens with the base notes of habit rouge (bergamot, leather, rose, rosewood, frankincense, rosewood, cedarwood, sandalwood, patchouli and vanilla) before it goes down to a beautiful leather that is accented with hints of oud. Mine is the pre formulated version which still has agarwood listed as the notes. The newer version (the one not in leather wrapping thats being sold in sg) no longer lists agarwood as one of the notes, and smells a little less deep.

Leather + a hint of florals + incense + oud. Amazing scent.

Just gotten my leather samples from Bro Tone as i tumpang his STC purchase, waited a month.. thanks for going through the hassle bro smile.gif

the first sample i dab on is Tuscan Leather... first impression: WOW!!!

i think why all the private blend command higher price due mainly to it is an oil-based frag... Im holding back not to keep applying the whole 0.5ml sample on my hand and keep smelling it...

Tuscan Leather is linear frag which lagi an added advantage as i love linear scent... Opening is sweet creamy rich smoky... mild sweetness from raspberry... with very masculine smoky leather, a beauty and a beast combo but works absolutely perfect...

Is tuscan leather smell like cocaine? i have no idea but i sure know that this is an addicting scent, dunno how many times i sniff the back of my hand...

Just put it this way, if im a girl and smell this on a man, my knee will go weak, this is how seriously freaking good is Tuscan Leather
*
hmmm

for real 'classic' leather scents that international perfuminstas actually recommend for leather are:

Derby (Guerlain)
Patou Pour Homme (Jean Patou)
Bel Ami (Hermes)
Equipage (Hermes)

(they can actually be VERY strong smelling. and smells like Cuir de Russie but with a very, very sharp and intense edge.)

Modern Leather (softened) probably in line with Tuscan Leather:
Habit Rouge EDP
Zen for Men (Shishedo)
Bulgari Black

My body heat quite warm and would love to get suggestions from the expert here

Try using more sprays. Some scents that dont last long on me, i usually use more than 10 sprays. Also spray on your shirt as well.

Perfumes are activated by body heat so if your shirt is close to your body it will still activate.

Im not a fan of skanky, fecal, animalic vibe scent... And I have little exposure to leather note due to the above reason
SL not bad.. The civet is hanging there but not strong.. Based on wat I sniff so far, tuscan leather is absolutely stunning, masculine, smoky yet avoid birch tar, civet or other animalic scent... Raspberry is perfectly done in this blend, u can smell the sweetness but it is not sweet...

Cuir de russie the fecal drydown.....
*
None of them got skanky, fecal or animalic. birch tar absolute. Also very strong and piercing.

also, keep in mind that citrus (the term is hesperidic notes) will always dissipate faster than usual unless they have a strong basenote to anchor. Clinique Happy for men lasts for 2 hours maximum because its entirely a citrus scent. and that is to be expected.

good to know perfumes with citrus will not last longer
*
The citrus note will dissappear first. then if it has a strong base note, the perfume will 'hold' for example, versache eau fraiche's topnotes is the same as clinique happy, but 2 hours later the vetiver basenote appears and the citrus will no longer be around. It will smell like a totally different perfume. Classics like shalimar and habit rouge have citrus notes that hold longer because they are very complex scents.

And oh, before i forget, PPH and Derby both fetch up to USD 500-1000 for vintage versions. Bel Ami and Equipage fetch around 400-600 USD also. Derby is extremely popular and a must have classic for collectors in basenotes.

leather isnt that complex. Its either classic leather or modern leather. classic leather is piercing and super strong and i personally find it off putting. I can tolerate modern leather (zen for men) but not like.

Guys, can recommend something not too generic(polo, davidoff, mont blanc) for office wear?

Something strong but not too bold with good longevity smile.gif
*
you may wanna go for classic scents (coz most people here wont go for those).

My personal faves for office wear are: Guerlain Vetiver, Guerlain Habit Rouge and Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentre (Chanel Pour Monsieur is waaaay too classy for everyday work. Interviews and special dates only.)
