seem like the tech level.of tank/ground vechicle doesn't improve much compare to air/sea

the overall design maybe(it's still looks like and overweight tractor with a mofo-ing cannon on top of it) tanks today look pretty much like they were during wwii(hell before that)

but inside, it's pretty much improved.from armor to FCS to sensor to communication system

the idea is good (to connect grunts to the whole C4I up to operational level), but the implementation is doh.gif

currently the only countries that is somewhat successful in implementing this future soldier concept are israel and france. singapore and south korea is pretty dang close on fielding their own version of future soldier. US? laugh.gif

as for our own army, i'm not really impressed with the prototype. them sapura did good but i think they lack feedback from the grunt. besides i don't think we ever gonna field something like a helmet that looks like a camel toe hump anyway.

ofc not. the future soldier system extend beyond the infantry. the whole army branch need to evolve into a network-centric army

country like US,Israel, South Korea, the UK and france benefits from their already established C4I. thus the future combat system is a step forward

Who ask Malaysia to spend so much on customization, local production tech transfer and commissions that jack up the price per unit so much, you ran out of money to spend on anything else. Different lah if you build by thousands and able to spread out NRE cost.
*
bcoz we won't gonna find a vanilla system that perfectly suited our needs unless we build it ourself. them Tanks need some localization so it can perform in the tropical jungle, the fighter jet avionics has to be tranlated in ingles, etc. some run-of the-mill equipments offered by the supplier are inferior, such as russian targetting pods.

even though we won't gonna see the "made in malaysia" tanks or jet in near future, the ToT already helps us in other aspect of the industry. from advanced material fabrication to warhead/missile sensors. from our deal with F/A-18D we learn how to make NVG goggles. we also have the capability to produce base-bleed, laser-guided 155mm artillery rounds and even short range SAMs

Then stop complaining (not target at you). We can have either quantity or quality, not both without blowing up the budget. Well..may be can but need to cut all the wastage and have a lean open tender system for all procument without unnecessary middle men and political interference.
*
from your previous post looks like you're the one complaining

besides ATM prefers quality over quantity. as for political interference, politics and military are but 2 side of a same coin. one cannot exist without the other,be it on flexing military muscle to influence regional decision or buying(or not buying) weapon from certain country to gain some kind of alliance.

The Royal Malaysian Navy's (RMN) second training ship, Teguh Samudera, has been launched at the NGV Tech shipyard in Kampung Sijangkang, Malaysia.

NGV Tech and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) agreed in December 2010 to collaborate on developing the two 75.9m-long training/patrol ships for the RMN, each costing around RM150m-RM180m (US$47.6 million-US$57.2 million).

Featuring advanced design and capabilities, the naval training vessels can sail for 2,500nm or up to 21 days before refuelling, and can accommodate 47 crew members and 60 additional passengers according to Bernama News.

Additionally, the vessel is integrated with a combat system, radar, navigation equipment and close in weapon to support missions for the Malaysian Navy.

the emphasis is more on training.

but the design is versatile enough to be used on other type of warship. we're getting a FAC version based on the hull as well

Defense chief says purchase of 8 Sokol choppers from Poland is last
By Dona Z. Pazzibugan | 24 July 2013 Wednesday | 6:38 am

MANILA, Philippines—”Of what use is a combat helicopter if you cannot use its machine gun?” President Aquino asked in his State of the Nation Address on Monday.

On Tuesday, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said the purchase of eight Sokol helicopters from Poland would be the last by the Department of National Defense (DND) since they could not be used in combat, after all.

“I understand helicopters because I’m a combat officer. The first thing I noticed was, why do you have to remove the machine gun before you can get inside it? The entrance is too narrow, it’s all wrong,” said Gazmin, a former Army Special Forces commander.

The P2.8-billion deal with Augusta PZL Swidnik of Italy and Poland for eight Sokol helicopters had been signed, sealed and delivered when he assumed office in July 2010, Gazmin said.

“We just had to make the payment,” he said.

The eight Sokol (Falcon in Polish) helicopters were delivered in two batches in 2012.

The contract was finalized during the last months of the Arroyo administration when Norberto Gonzales, the national security adviser, was also defense secretary.

When the first batch of four choppers arrived in March 2012, the PAF hailed the addition to their depleted air assets.

The Sokols were supposed to replace the Vietnam-vintage UH-1H Huey helicopters the PAF used in search and rescue, medical evacuation and combat utility missions.

But in his Sona on Monday, President Aquino said the helicopters could not be used to ferry soldiers to combat zones because the machine guns were mounted at the door, blocking entry and exit.

“If you are a soldier entering the fray at the height of battle, of what use is a machine gun that is set aside and unable to fire? Did no one think about this before the contracts were signed? Why was this even approved in the first place?” Aquino said.

Gazmin said he had not made up his mind whether or not to order an investigation and go after those responsible for the purchase of the Sokols even if these did not meet the PAF’s requirements.

“We’ll study that. I cannot answer that question yet,” he said.

He said the helicopters would be used in search and rescue missions and the DND would proceed with the acquisition of attack helicopters. “But no longer the Sokol. We are looking at other brands of aircraft and helicopters.”

if i'm not mistaken the pinoy bought the civilian version, the W-3A instead of W-3P/T

sokol is a very decent helos and can be considered as like-for-like replacement of the venerable UH-1

u mean "us" as in us malaysian or the US of A?

they've been churning out Type-052s almost one per month. but they still need to replace the bulk of old, substandard warship. and i doubt if their type-056Ds are as capable as the older variant arleigh-burke class

before wanna compete with america, they need to compete(qualitatively and quantitatively) with japan first, since they have the 2nd strongest navy

if they return to the 1967 border and let the palestinian have their sovereignity, perhaps can nego

impossibru? just look at south africa and serbia. we boicott south african product in the 80s and now they are one of our weapon supplier. and they even become one of malaysia's top economic partner in africa

as for serbia, you can see serbian military industries offering their products in DSA and LIMA.
