Omani infrantrymen with US "weekend warrior" during US-Oman excercise
now you tell me which blends more with the environment, the UCP multi million dolar programme or the omani one (which is pretty much based on amoeba-style BDU, only with different color tone). hell if you go to some certain military forum, the general concencus is that DCU>multicam>old ww2 khaki uniform>potato sack>UCP

i dunno if the new camo is official or not (sometimes we can see the top brass with other style camo, like british DPM), but i'd like to see how it perform in our jungle/plantation. i think this one is the new one CTRM is developing or something~

in term of multi-layered air defence,we rely on our MiG-29N and Su-30MKM as our long range air defence, Rapier as our SHORADS and Igla/anza/starburst (if this even in the inventory anymore) and some oerlinkon AAA as our VSHORADS

we do have gaps in medium level air defence. we've been flirting with Aster-30 and Buk-M1 system for years now. even at one point them chinese are offering us them air defence system

bofors artillery fiasco, pinaka mrl fiasco, HAL-produced Mig-21 flying coffins, Tejas LCA fiasco, arjun fiasco, Insas rilfe fiasco.....

fiasco at every level.

even their "brand new" aircraft carrier (actually ex-kiev class "aircraft-carrying cruiser") was marred with delays and problems(they let russians to do them upgrade instead of doing it on their own, like china did with liaoning). now their "local made" aircraft carrier is floated (still has no island), some just waits for them problem to surface

China has also started building their own aircraft carrier to supplement liaoning. but right now they're focusing on replacing the bulk of soviet-era destroyers and frigates and to counter Japan and SK Aegis-capable destroyers, thus the project gets lower level priority (it's there, but don't expect it to be completed soon)

bar singapore, i have to disagree.

quantitatively, yes. qualitiatively, no

i really hope our next batch frigate come derived from UK's Type 45. that and 2nd batch of submarine.

by the look of it, we need at least 4 more frigates and at least 6 subs.

QUOTE
Malaysian Navy Training Ship Named
Hull No. 7040, a training ship ordered by the Malaysian Navy was launched and its naming ceremony was held on 27th February in Malaysia’s NGV Tech shipyard.

This project allowed DSME to confirm its ability in the local contents business of the defense industry. ‘Local content’ pertains to the amount, or percentage of components manufactured in a specific country.

DSME received the credit from the Malaysian Navy as its partner. DSME contributed technical support, blocks, and the supply of material in order to assist in the building of two training ships. Despite the short period of time available for the construction, Hull No. 7040 achieved its successful launch only 45 days after the keel laying. The Malaysia press focused on these surprising results and this contributed to favorable coverage for DSME.

She is named ‘KD Teguh Samudera’ and will be delivered in June.

and here i thought it took at least 2 years to build a frigate.

that only true if we totally rojak the dang thing. like bae electronic but using chinese C-802 SSM. itu baru rojak.

like bangla frigate INS bangdanghinhu....whatitsname... it took 10 years to get the damn thing straight. last time the bangla went full retard on using chinese ships and chinese electronic suite but western weapon system

this is DSME (a JV of thales and korean company) if we stick to using korean/french system the integration should go smoothly

The longer time for frigate is probably due to the weapon system installation. Even more if the weapon system is rojak one, coming from many nations. The training vessels only got guns..

Tho, with the training vessel's platform, maybe can develop patrol vessels..

the only thing that the ship need to become a corvette/OPV is SSM and faster turbine engine.

DSME is going for thailand's frigate, pinoy "battleship" (they said that not me whistling.gif ), even try to compete in indon new submarine contract

our prob mostly deal with lack of spare parts and obsolescence (soviet era building technique. dunno if the rivet is still noticeable) . afaik 2 of our MiGs crashed, though thankfully no pilot/civilian casualities involved.

i thought the AFP and MNLF did joint maneuvre to combat splinter group a while back?

problem with pinoy security forces is that there are so many turncoats among their ranks. be it the army, the police or their village guard

QUOTE(menj @ Sep 9 2013, 03:11 PM)
Hahahaha....padan muka dengan Pinoys semua. Dulu masa Sulu serang Sabah, punyalah hebat dok backing MNLF, MILF and the rebel groups. This is a spat on their faces.

i wouldn't be laughing if i was you. if the philippines continues to be incompetent in containing the situation it gonna spill to us eventually.

thus the need to improve ESSCOM. the plan to replace the Migs will have to be on lower priority at least until 2015. right now we need MPAs and additional ground radar placement. oh and half a dozen new, heavily armed cutters for MMEA wouldn't hurt.
