Hi guys, since i've been rejected for BPTC application this year and decided opt for CLP, but still do you guys think that deferring one year and wait for another BPTC next year is a wise choice? OR rather a dumb solution?. As to why, i just think that British education system and their policy is just my preference (more involvement). Besides, it is an investment for future don't you guys think as you might ended up working overseas

QUOTE(BravoZeroTwo @ Aug 5 2015, 10:59 AM) Lack of credentials and no polishing act that would be. However, I do admit that i have never involved in any legal profession (clerk or intern at law firm or any related job) before nor having participated any mooting or debate competition. But unlike them, i do not exaggerate myself or giving false information. Once, i have one friend who told me that he would went Magistrate Court to observe a case session (an advice from consultant who aided his application) and wrote it down on the form and apparently it worked for him. Basically, you are looking at a LL.B student with zero experience at law field, but the funny thing is my friend who gor the same condition as me received the offer while i don't. I can't blame him though because i was stupid and rigid. This post has been edited by zone3310: Aug 6 2015, 03:20 AM |

Do CLP and I am sure RM11k is nothing too much compared to your RM100k BPTC. Pass your CLP next year then do your BPTC next year to the year after. RM110k and you can have both CLP and BPTC. |

Hi guys, I am interested in a law career in Malaysia. But to be honest my BM is really, really bad. I really can't speak or write BM. English is good though. Do you think I have a future in this career?
Also is it hard to pass the BM qualifying exam? |

Do you think I have a future in this career? You are not alone. Hundreds of law graduate came back from UK every year, another few hundreds are from UOL external. They will pick up malay once they started practising since they have to do alot of translation every week. But my advice to you is start now and don't wait until you start practising. If not you will suffer, transfer 1 page into BM will take you half an hour, very unproductive. Also is it hard to pass the BM qualifying exam? Go take Form 5 BM past year to practise, read malay newspapers and magazines. Just once a week, and after 4 years of law school. imagine that amount of articles you would have come through. You will then have an advantage over your peers. |

Thank u for ur reply. Problem is I already graduate and now consider doing some pupillage but problem is I really don't know how to speak or write. Maybe very very basic BM only.
What translation do we have to do during pupillage? Also Im scared the BM Qualifying Exam will be very tough. Anyway should I consider another career? |

Anyway should I consider another career? You should at least try 1st, before thinking to change to another career. My friend, which had no idea what's BM until he was 20+ from Belgium managed to learn the basic and speak pretty okay within 3~6 months. All you need is some time and effort, and you'll probably be okay. |

Hi, thanks for your advice but we do know that RM 100k is not a small amount since currency inflation and i'm don't see the perk of having both since one of it would be suffice to practice in Malaysia. As for me taking BPTC is like a gamble, you either have the opportunity to work other than Malaysia and earn more (currency magic) or you come back and practice and that's why it's like an investment, there may be returning profit or there may not. Anyway, do you have any information regarding which college is best for CLP? I'm currently considering ATC (KL or Penang) or BAC since both are quite competitive in their own aspects. Any views will be appreciated. Thank You |

QUOTE(tinahakimbaba @ Sep 12 2015, 10:13 PM) Hi guys, On the basis that you are a Malaysian, you have to sit for Bahasa Malaysia (Malay Language) paper in order to qualify as an advocate. (provided your law degree is recognised too)I have a question re: CLP I studied at an international school abroad and I have iGCSE and International Baccalaureate (IB) qualification. Are these two accepted as SPM and A-Level equivalent by the LPQB? I attempted to email the LPQB but my email bounced. Where did you do you IB? |

QUOTE(tinahakimbaba @ Sep 19 2015, 12:24 AM) I did the IB at an international school in Shanghai. I'm studying law at the University of Bristol currently. I don't know the level of difficulty for that paper. However, it is reasonably safe to assume that it should be equivalent to an SPM level.Do I do the BM paper before the CLP? How hard is it? SPM level or? Sidenote: Do I have to do the BM paper if I do the BPTC? Cause on LPQB it only states that candidates must have credit in BM at SPM level. Yes. Malaysian courts practices 2 languages, namely Malay and English. Therefore it is expected of a candidate to maintain a certain degree of proficiency in these languages. How good is your Malay language? [if you think you need help, may be you can invest in some Malay books and spend some time learning the language throughout your undergraduate course] |

Hi there,
Just wanted to share this relatively new resource for law students and anyone in the legal industry. www.OfficeParrots.com is a career platform currently focusing on the legal industry. They have opportunities for internships, pupillage and other full time law positions as well as events focused on preparing students for their career. They are also partnered with BAC and KPUM. I found them through KPUM's website and applied for an internship there. They helped me with my CV to make sure that my CV was good. I got to read a lot of reviews about different law firms that I was considering before doing my internship. They asked me to give them some feedback and write a review about my internship on their website and then they gave me a RM30 voucher for Lazada. Really helped me a lot with their service, so wanted to share it. Attached thumbnail(s) |

Do the Malaysian bar only accepts clp and bptc? Was hoping to do something different, for example the Australian bar or even the New Zealand bar course. Does anyone know if this is a viable choice ?
Ps. Currently reading law at a uk university, if that is relevant. Thanks all |

The governing body for legal education / qualification is LPQB. QualificationsPs. Currently reading law at a uk university, if that is relevant. Thanks all Other than those listed, you are required to undertake CLP. Even if you have been admitted to a foreign bar, you must have certain number of 'years of standing' before you can move your call to the Malaysian bar (without CLP) Even before you move your call to the bar in Aus / NZ, you have to meet their respective bar qualifications. |
