HI everybody, i'm currently a 2nd year student of UKT transfer , what concern me now are

1) which elective subjects to choose between company and family law, do you guys have any idea or opinion about these 2 subjects? What are the job prospect differences for the subjects?

2)Which subjects do students normally choose during final year?

Any comment would be appreciated. Thx smile.gif

Hey Guys, i'm currently a law student at final year in UK and planning for BPTC but i'm not sure which inns of court should i join. Any guidance or free advice? All i know is that mostly Malaysians will end up in Lincoln Inn but i need to know more aside from Malaysian's preference. Any other benefits of joining any particular inns? OR would it be sensible to join Lincoln Inn for future social network? Currently, i'm not bias against any inns but i'm considering Middle Temple as well since some of my friends joined there as well. (Note:I do not know any information about Gray's inn and Inner Temple.) icon_question.gif

Hi, i was wondering if LLM studied at Malaysia will be any difference from LLM at UK? Will a UK LLM gain an entrance to international career? or is it better to go for btpc or clp? (btw i'm considering CLP but i'm not sure whether could CLP even allow you to work internationally related field, assuming that there's a Malaysia firm which have businesses dealing across the border and allow you to travel or even migrate to other country.)

are you planning to do it in the UK? or distance learning?
*

probably in the UK because not every "prestige" university offer distance learning, but i fear this would not be possible anymore since i might get a 2:2 (which completely ruled me out of the LLM requirement) sad.gif probably going back CLP and become another average Ali LOL......

Bro, is it tough to study for UKT program ?
*
If you want to compare UKT and UOL, i personally think that UOL is harder due to the high standard UOL established (although much cheaper), but if you considering UKT LLB, please make sure that you are capable of getting at least 2:1 minimum. At UK, having 2:1 is so common that you can't even guarantee a training contract or even pursuing LLM if you are not a 2:1 student, 2:2 or lower degree is already considered useless and you have to work a lot harder to even up with those 2:1 students or higher such as work experience accumulation or others. Back at Malaysia, i personally think the situation would be relatively same. Even a 2:2 UOL is on par with 2:1 UKT, hence you should know how low a 2:2 UKT be. While you can judge me from being extreme, but this is my honest view, i would stand corrected if anyone could statistically or evidently proved me otherwise.

Answering your question, whether is it tough would depend. From my perspective, UKT is tough (but not tougher than UOL since it is 100% written-based examination), a guy like me who study only last minute only get probably 2:2, hence not of useful degree. My advice to you is if you really considering UKT, i suggest 1+2 UKT which mean you go studying at UK from 2nd year because i think their education systems are way more better that Malaysia and i think you could study better or higher possibility achieve a better grade (but no clubbing or drinking or always travelling at UK). (For example, at UK you only attend the lecture 1 hour per day but at Malaysia is 2 hours which could easily lose focus and the UK staff is more attentive and helpful) Having said that, you must being able to afford the fee LOL.

According to my situation, although my results only partially released, it is of having high chance that i would get a 2:2 degree. Hence, if it comes down to this, i better go back my hometown and sell CharKueyTeow to earn a living...... rclxub.gif

But the truth is having a 2:2 UKT degree you could still study CLP but CLP is way much harder than UKT, yet another hurdle to cross.

i took CLP. regretted because it's only recognised in Malaysia.
but if you're not planning to work elsewhere it's not too bad to have CLP.

Hi there, why do you think so? Are you planning to work at UK or other countries? What's your current status then? From what i've heard, mostly BPTC holder end up working at Malaysia but it sure open up opportunities of career options.

HI, i do know that Singapore only recognize some of the UNi's LLB such as Cambridge, OXford and other, so which uni were you from and do in-house recognize LLB from other uni? And comparing practising in Malaysia and in-house in Singapore which is better? I do wish to work in Singapore if it's lucrative too LOL

Hi guys, since i've been rejected for BPTC application this year and decided opt for CLP, but still do you guys think that deferring one year and wait for another BPTC next year is a wise choice? OR rather a dumb solution?. As to why, i just think that British education system and their policy is just my preference (more involvement). Besides, it is an investment for future don't you guys think as you might ended up working overseas blush.gif

May I ask why your application was not successful ?
*
Lack of credentials and no polishing act that would be. However, I do admit that i have never involved in any legal profession (clerk or intern at law firm or any related job) before nor having participated any mooting or debate competition. But unlike them, i do not exaggerate myself or giving false information. Once, i have one friend who told me that he would went Magistrate Court to observe a case session (an advice from consultant who aided his application) and wrote it down on the form and apparently it worked for him. Basically, you are looking at a LL.B student with zero experience at law field, but the funny thing is my friend who gor the same condition as me received the offer while i don't. I can't blame him though because i was stupid and rigid.

Why not do both? Since you have a year rest. Do CLP and I am sure RM11k is nothing too much compared to your RM100k BPTC.  Pass your CLP next year then do your BPTC next year to the year after. RM110k and you can have both CLP and BPTC.
*
Hi, thanks for your advice but we do know that RM 100k is not a small amount since currency inflation and i'm don't see the perk of having both since one of it would be suffice to practice in Malaysia. As for me taking BPTC is like a gamble, you either have the opportunity to work other than Malaysia and earn more (currency magic) or you come back and practice and that's why it's like an investment, there may be returning profit or there may not. Anyway, do you have any information regarding which college is best for CLP? I'm currently considering ATC (KL or Penang) or BAC since both are quite competitive in their own aspects. Any views will be appreciated. Thank You smile.gif
